Note: if your wheels are really slow now you may see a bigger increase than I did.  I only use the race wheels for races.  I have my original wheels that I still use for training rides.

I think my wife will get a little bit of that sticker shock, especially considering I bought my bike new for around $900.

Regarding my wheels now, a good number of people have told me they're just horrible and slow. A friend put things in terms I could understand- telling me that they were like Bud Light in the beer world (and I always upgrade to something like Hobgoblin Gold).

IMO, your better off saving and just pulling the trigger on a solid pair of Enve's or Zipp's. There is a reason so many use those two wheel brands, quality has a price.

Thanks all for your input. I ended buying an aero helmet, the Giant Pursuit. I bought new gloves and plan to buy a new kit soon. I still want new wheels, but I will take the final advice given and buy something solid, rather than what I can afford right now.

Why the Giant Pursuit? Why did you not get a Giro Aerohead (http://amzn.to/2ut9KYr). Previously the king of helmets was the LG P09 testing fastest in wind tunnels and tracks for about 90% of people. Then Aerohead came out and smashed the LG P9 then testing fastest on about 90%. If you are guessing at helmets with out testing you first choice should be the Aerohead, second choice the P9

Basically, it was this review:

http://www.220triathlon.com/gear/bike/helmets/aero-road-helmets-10-...

And some discussion with others. I really need ventilation. Right now in Taiwan, it's been in the mid 90s for some time now. And at around 70% humidity, it's just miserable heat when you get out there and move. I also do mountains whenever I can (that's all I'm doing now but will switch soon to flats as I've got some races coming up starting in September). So again ventilation is very important to me.

When I went to buy the Giant Rivet, which is ranked highly in the review above, I found that the Giant Pursuit fit better and of course looks great! Ventilation also played a part as the Pursuit has more.

I can still buy another helmet. I'll look into the ones you recommended. If I do (buy another), I would be fine using the Pursuit for mountains and training (the ventilation is just fantastic!), and use one of the ones you recommended for races.

Some additional info. I started cycling two and a half years ago. I bought a basic bike and started riding in what I would wear on a run. Fast forward a bit and now I have decent cycling shoes, a good seat, and nice aero bars. Everything else I own is very, very basic. My old helmet is the cheapest one they had on the rack when I bought my bike. So I don't mind buying yet another helmet so that I have two good helmets which I would use like I described above.
