mkarr0110 - 2012-12-31 10:47 AM To me rich is more the mentality of the individual. To me rich is having enough money to where you cannot understand why I cannot afford to attend the family functions several times a year. Or that my clothes dont fit that great because I cant afford new ones. Or why I would wear second hand clothes from a thrift store. Or why I eat bread with hotsauce sometimes saying you'd never eat that it's gross (ya, well you've never been hungry). Rich is a mind set. If you have enough money to be ignorant, you are rich. I agree that this applies to most Americans.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Well it's not me for sure.   I am comfortably off it can be said.  I don't often worry about money - got enough to do what i need to do pretty much.  I just like to have enough to fund any health issues or emergency trips from Australia to the UK/Greece where all our family are based.

Being the father of 4 daughters, including a set of twins, and a son has made me rich beyond my wildest dreams or ambitions.

You couldn't buy my life from me with a billion dollars.

I am far from rich. I could say that i am comfortable and happy with my life. I am not concerned with having this or wanting that. For some folks, they are never happy with what they have, always greedy for more and more, such a constant endless cycle. For me rich is just being alive and living in the moment, being healthy and happy! Because any day could be my last!

I heard something interesting on a local radio program over lunch.  They mentioned measuring wealth on net worth is never good because a teacher who retires at 55 years old could have a pension of $40k/year, but the actual value of that pension is over a million dollars.  So they're considered a millionaire from a net worth standpoint, but scraping by on $40k/year is hardly "rich".

"Rich" to me means "options". I think there are many people that make good money, and spend good money. They live no different that the rest... pay check to paycheck so to speak just more expensive toys. But savings accounts, CDs, liquid assets, long term investments, not having to use credit... not worrying if you don't work for a year... that's rich. Options.

If you asked me growing up, what I make today I would be rich. But I assure you, I'm not. Rather shocked at what I make, and yet no where near rich.

^^What he said. It's funny, when my son was growing up and I was explaining to him why he needed a good education or skill, I explained that it was all about having options. The more options you have the richer the life. (IMO)
