These are all great suggestions! I'll look into some of the fall ones for next year since I'm not even close to run a BQ right now and have NYC on Nov. 2. Some of the winter races look pretty good as well. Thanks for all of the good info.

I ran Myrtle Beach this year.  Its pancake flat the entire way.

CIM in Sacramento, CA. and Long Beach are good courses. I have BQ'd on both. CIM has a net downhill mostly rolling the first 16. After that it is great and makes for a stong finish.

Long Beach is flat but you have to watch the weather. It was warm the year I did it. 65 at the start. 80 at the finish.

If you are willing to wait for the Spring and travel, Green Bay is a great one.  It is flat, small and has a low hassle factor (e.g. hotels are plentiful, parking is at Packer stadium and they let you wait inside if it is raining or cold).  Oh and you get to run around the field if that is important to you!

I would concur with Briand that Grand Rapids can be a good one assuming the wind does not play a role.  The last two years have been brutal.

Did you just call Lambeau Field "Packer Stadium"?  You may be going to hell!  j/k

LM, you could always just go the charity route.  I know it's not the same.  Good luck that would be so bad a$$ to BQ!

Too funny.  I did that because I did not know how to spell Lambeau!  It really is a fun, well run race.

Are there any thoughts on which marathons are the best for qualifying for Boston? I'm assuming the flatter courses work well and those with manageable crowds to navigate. I've done Chicago, for example, which is nice and flat, but it's so crowded at the start that keeping up a strong pace is challenging.

And before anyone says "the one you train appropriately for," let's assume the training is a given. I'm just curious if there are races known to be particularly good for getting a BQ time.

Every year Runner’s world does a Boston special edition. It has all sorts of interesting facts in it. Believe it or not the race that has the most qualifiers was the Bay State marathon. I don’t have the exact numbers because I am traveling right now but if you went online somewhere I am sure that it is listed.

Also look at Philly, Detroit and California International.

You're in NY.. how about Long Island Marathon. I don't know too much about qualifying, but I do know that the LI marathon is a flat, fast course.

Indy marathon - which is not the same as the Monumental marathon in indianapolis.  Indy Marathon is Oct 18....very pretty course.  It did sell out last year, but it is not huge by any stretch.
