Welshy - I agree.

Renee - I disagree.

(I wasn't asking you to decide - you see the dilemma you put us in - do we agree that we should be wary of people who agree?)

But is it a GOOD dilemma? I likey a good dilemma.

I'm wary of someone who agrees with me ALL the time. I'm not always right and I'm sometimes right for the wrong reasons and sometimes I'm wrong and comfortable with being wrong. I'm way too idiosyncratic and unique for someone to be on my wavelength ALL the time. (We all are, aren't we?) I'm a juicy paradox. At the heart of it, though, is that I like to learn from others and you don't get to learn much when someone is always telling you "Yeah, you're right." I am a life-long Learner. To learn is to keep living; to stop learning is to choose a quiet death. Bleh!

It means alot to me that someone like Bettylou can say "I disagree with you 95% of the time but we can still get along." It speaks to the integrity of her opinion and character.

One of my favorite Mark Twain quotes: Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul.

I don't want the kind of loyalty that serves my vanity; I want the kind that says "We're friends even and especially when we disagree... Now let me tell you why you're wrong..."

Hope this muddled your dilemma even more.

True, but you've been on this site far longer than I have been; I have yet to reach 1 year. And, I have not resorted to posts and odes of nothing (a nod to your cleverness with words and ideas).

It's ok, Thomas, not many can keep up with my profligate ways. If only I could translate that into my training...

I once got into a lengthy debate (via e-mail back and forth) with a guy who was as strong of an atheist as I am a devote Christian. Back and forth we went for a few days. He finally gave me a great compliment by saying that I was the first Christian with which he had had an intelligent debate....That most Christians tried to argue with him with emotion but I used logic and facts to support my opinions. I didn't convert him (as far as I know!) but we had some very thoughtful debate back and forth.

So, NO, I don't want to start debating atheism and Christianity or whatever! My point is that if a person is thoughtful and logical in their thought process, then I can respect thier opinion, even while I totally disagree. That's what makes us all interesting.... (if wrong! ha!)

Well, thanks for the nod - no-one can pontificate on nothing like I can.... - It's true I have a propensity to write odes to nothing and beat the topic of peanut butter into the groud in a way which chipotle can only dream, but I have been a very busy little welshy for the last 6 months or so and have fallen off your hellish pace. I will try harder.
