Hi all - Another Triathlete-in-training here... I live in Round Rock and just signed up for the Jack's Generic Tri on 9/5. It will be my first, so I'm really looking forward to it. Anybody have any race info? Their website didn't have complete course maps.

I did Jack's Generic Tri last year and had a blast! The Texas Ski Ranch is really a neat place. The swim is in the cable lake around the island in the midle. It's never very far to a bank so if you get nervous, land is always close. The bike course is a loop with some rolling to steeper hills (but nothing too bad). Being a cyclist, I loved the course. The hills start out pretty steep in the beginning and then kind of level off and build as you come back around. I loved bombing down that last hill back to transition. The run is an out and back. It's a gentle rise on the way out; therefore, nice downhill on the way back in. Afterwards, they had hamburgers and beer and you could watch people use the cable lake which was neat to see. Definitely a great sprint distance race and all of the volunteers were super nice.

I did The Rookie Tri back in May and my savior was knowing that land was always close by. The friend of mine who convinced me that I could do it sold me on the fact that if you need to find land it is never to far away.

The Rookie Tri bike course can be found on http://www.jackandadams.com/. This course was just over 11 miles, but should give you an idea of what you can expect.

Good luck. TSR is also hositing a tri on August 14 as well. Football practice has to come first on Labor Day(all things being equal I would rather be tri-ing).

There is a good climb just as you leave T1. You don't have any momentum and that makes it difficult. The next 4 or 5 miles are fast and senic and then you make the turn onto FM1101 and you start to hit some rolling hills. The reward is once you hit IH35 again it is all downhill until you enter T2.

I only live a few minutes form this ride and plan on riding it again this weekend. I will check in and let you know how it is. When I did it in May I had never ridden on any hills.

I joined the new Lifetime Fitness in N. Austin a few weeks back - yes they have 3 pools -- 1 25m lap pool, 1 indoor play pool, 1 outdoor play pool (w/ a few lap lanes -- I think). I was impressed. They are planning on having running groups and, according to the person who helped me, a tri training group too. Plus, 200+ treadmill type machines, spinning classes, etc. etc. Can't wait for it to open in September!!

How many lanes is the 25m lap pool going to have? I think I might have to join as well...

The ride was exactly as I remembered. I think the hardest part is hitting the first short climb. Once you hit FM1101 you have rolling hills for about 4 miles. After hitting IH35 again you should sail back into TSR. Good luck.
