While the Hunger Games book was much better the the movie, the character played by Woody Harrelson (Haymitch Abernathy) was MUCH better in the movie then the book.

The role was just... him.

Agreed he was perfect.  I can't wait to see him in the next one.  Much more Haymitch

Back in 83 there was this mini series called 'Chiefs' that I totally adored. I am currently reading the book and it caused me to go find the movie and watch it again and I am going to be hard pressed to like the book more than that movie. Billy D Williams, John Goodman, Charlton Heston, etc. etc. Some seriously AWESOME dudes in that movie and the bad guy played by Keith Carradine was nasty scary and the ickiest bad guy I have ever come across.

Now you are talkin' my language!  I LOVED that mini-series!  Yeah, I was just a kid, but I really loved that mini-series.  Thanks for reminding me of that one!  (btw, I was 9 when I saw it...and as a parent, there's probably no way I'm letting my 9 year old watch it!)

Makes me think of Woody Allen's Everything You Wanted to Know About Sex* But Were Afraid to Ask. Not at all connected to the book in terms of content, but much more entertaining. (And if you are old enough to remember Dunkin Donuts "Time to make the donuts" commercials, it's especially entertaining at one part)

The Chiefs discussion reminded me of a miniseries I loved in the 80s called Favorite Son. I enjoyed the book and was looking forward to the show. It was much better than I expected. Of course the 80s was the decade of great miniseries.

Another vote for Fight Club.

LOTR, almost.  The books are great, but the movies are AMAZING.

The Shining (the book was good...the movie did it better).

Stand By Me (The Body). Again...the story was great, but the movie was even better. (Kind of the Princess Bride phenomenon)
