Phil & Paul, that's normally our other channel's highlight programme commentators. Wondering if they are covering it live too here. 4everblue - 2008-07-05 7:43 AM I've just seen our TV listings. Stage 1 starts @ 1030 for six hours, must be start to finish. Anyone else be watching? Coverage down under starts at 10pm... I think we get 4 hours, we usually drop in when Phil and paul start.. I will be online while its on because I will have to hae an outlet for my excitement! Seriously they are the best!!!! We had Sean Kelly and someone for the Giro (just highlights) and it wasnt the same.. the other guy was good but Sean Kelly just didnt compare to the wealth of knowledge and skills of Phil and Paul |

Take it one's up & one's down due to altitude difference.Alright, so I am the late comer to the team. Somehow I got missed from the orignal lineup, but that's ok. My name is Travis, this will be my first official, non-causual challenge. I am a Sgt in the Marine Corps, and have recently been stationed in Aurora CO from Scranton PA. Due to still adjusting to the altitude difference and marathon training I am only in for 15 stages at 450min or 7.5hrs, depending on how you want to look at it. I am excited to be part of this challenge. |

Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: RE: Quickstep Team Thread Just a reminder before we get too far into this... Tour De France chatter about specific stages is not allowed in the team threads once the race gets started... there is a 24 hour blanket ban per stage... This is because due to the day time viewing schedule in the US and Europe a lot of people have to tape the live action and watch it after work so... I do not want anyones viewing experience ruined by coming across results in a team thread... Good thing there is the TOur De France forum (where we can all chat away happily through each of the stages).. Im going to post a reminder of this in all the team threads before Stage 1 starts but given our current line of conversation I figured I probably should drop it in here... |

The altitude here is 5,400+ft, Scranton is in the Northeast Corner of Pennsylvania which was about 1500ft if that, not totally sure. Major difference. |

That can't be live, can it? In the past, it seems to me that Versus starts out with pre-recorded footage, then goes to live coverage towards the end of the race. Last year, coverage on the east coast started at 8 AM with the "pre-stage" chat. Around 8:30, they switched to footage of the race.... And they usually finished up with "live" coverage that ended around noon. (Although for the longer stages, they stayed with the race until it ended.) |

I just starting triing this year. I've completed 3 sprints. I have a 4th scheduled at the end of this month. I'm from Murfreesboro, TN, just south of Nashville. I think I'm down for 13 stages, 250 miles. This is going to be a challenge since my biggest month so far is a little of 100 miles, but I'm going to get it done. I realized after my last tri that I had the bike endurance, but I really need to work on my speed. Therefore, I need to up my miles. I wish the challenge started today because I just came in from a 20+ mile bike ride. That's it JT. Get the training in before the challenge. Welcome aboard. Just consider me an early starter, lol. |

Elite 2443 Athens, Georgia | Subject: RE: Quickstep Team Thread Sorry for not hopping on earlier has been a busy two days for me. I am new to triathlon hence the username. I have fallen in love with the bike portion coming from a running/ soccer background. I am in for 10 stages and 300 miles. I will probably do more stages but didn't want to come up short on my first ever challenge. I am 29 married, proud father of three little girls (two triathletes and one in training). I am a Police K9 handler by night and a General Contractor with a small construction company by day. I have a long ride coming up in the AM so I am recording the first stage...can't wait for both. I saw your request for pics but I am going to have to tell on myself and admit that I have no idea how to reduce a pic to the space requirement to post them. I will be more than happy to post pics if and when I learn. Looking into that now. I love that this thread is active so far and hope to get to know everyone while piling on the miles with a little incentive of the challenge. Mike |

So when do you get to sleep then? I was like you with the pics until my good friend CHR15 enlightened me. If you have Microsoft Office Picture Manager you open your picture with that. Click on Edit Pictures. Resize picture. I have to put in around 30% to get the size down to <200 KB, sometimes it's a bit hit & miss. I save to desktop & check size there. Can also crop out unwanted portions of pics. First one of you & the dog? |

Live in the small town of Alsager in rural Cheshire, UK, below Manchester on the map. Very close to our lovely Peak District, hilly rides. Took this shot on Tuesday's recce for my forthcoming challenge ride. Down the very steep lane, lots of gravel, into the valley & back up the steep slope to take the pic. BTW, I'm 50 on Monday but don't tell anyone.

Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: RE: Quickstep Team Thread Hi Team, Just a reminder that when talking about events in the actual Tour De France there is a 24 hour ban on posting about recent action from the French roads in either your own team thread or other teams. This is because a lot of people have to work while the live coverage is on which means they do not get the chance to catch up on what is happening in the roads of France until later in the day. If you do want to chat about the event in France there is a Tour De France forum located here: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/forum-view.asp?... for the duration of the event. Otherwise Im usually hanging out in beginner chat whenever I have live stage coverage as well... and always happy to chat Tour with ANYONE and EVERYONE! Cat |

Veteran 187 Ontario, Canada | Subject: RE: Quickstep Team Thread Hi fellow Quicksteppers! Sorry for the late check in. Work has been a little crazy lately. Little about me: 43 yr old female from Niagara Falls, Canada. Live with my partner of 9 years. Our children are all 4 legged variety (one you can see looking very stressed out in my avatar). I've been a Police Officer for 16 yrs, 15 years of that in uniform patrol. Since Jan I'm now in front of a computer 10-14 hrs/day doing the auditing for the department's crime stats (I still wonder what the heck I was thinking when I applied for that unit!!). I have yet to do a Tri. I have a few really slow duathlons to my name from about 10 yrs ago as well as a few 5km and 1/2 marathon runs. I also play hockey (it's a Canadian thing). My goal for this challenge is a modest 10 stages for 360 minutes. I've been such a slug and haven't gotten out at all this year. This will give me that little kick I need to get going. Looking forward to getting to know you all. Let's go team and kick some butt!!! Dee

Elite 2443 Athens, Georgia | Subject: RE: Quickstep Team Thread Well stage one is finally over, for me that is. Did a group ride with some fellow BT'ers today. It was my first group ride, my longest ride ever, and first shot at hills. I knew going into today was going to be tough just didn't know how tough. Thanks for the insight on the pics. I will work on that. I am going to try to post one from today. If it doesn't work I will try again in a bit. Oh I covered 59 of my 300 mile goal today and my legs still have not forgiven me. I have no climbing experience so I can tell you that this ride killed me today. I bent three sprockets on my cassette today. I didn't crash so I am not sure exactly how it happened. I am sure it was all that torgue my legs were cranking out! |

Longest~ brilliant start. Bent sprockets, haven't heard of that before. That's a first. Can you replace them yourself? Nice 18%'er. Going to have trouble finding longer climbs then. Great pics. Keep them up.Second day of rain here & no end in sight on the forecast. May have to get MTB out & wet weather gear just to get some miles in. Had pencilled in 50 for today but that ain't going to happen. Be lucky with 10. |
