I think the Garmin in WAY off. I did an 80 mile ride yesterday nad my Garmin threw out 7368 in expended calories. My powertap had my kjoules at around 3000. The ride took right at 4 hours - so I think the powertap number is better

Do you know what 3000 KiloJoules converts to for food calories? I get 717. I'm not sure either worked very well for you on that ride.

ETA: Nevermind, I found this on Saris' site about their Kjoule reading:

http://www.saris.com/CalorieCalculator.aspx/>1 Kcal = 4.186 Kjoules

For every Kcal burned by the body only about 22% is used to move the bicycle.

1 Kjoule on Power Tap ~ 1.1 Kcals burned by the body
