Good race and IM 70.3 branded (if that matters to you). Another vote for Vineman. GORGEOUS course, flat warm river swim. Vineman Ironman 70.3 the swim is good, the bike is amazing, but the run is hilly and it can be hot, hot, hot. I will not do this again because of the chance of the hot run. I did both Vineman and Kansas this year. This was my first year doing Tris. Kansas was good. I didn't find it terribly humid and I am from Denver. The course had better aid stations than Vineman. But I would recommend Vineman over Kansas. First the Vineman swim is in a river and it was smooth as glass. Also, because the river is relatively narrow there are more waves with fewer people so I didn't get pounded on the swim. The ride for Vineman is more scenic than Kansas and a little less challenging. The runs on both are not flat but Vineman is harder and it was hot. It isn't always hot however and it depends on when your wave starts. I wouldn't do Barb's race (I can't anyhow because I'm not a woman ), but it seems that Barb's race would be even hotter. The final thing that is great about Vineman is being able to take in the beautiful vineyards after the race.
It's funny because usually the Barb's Race day is much hotter than the 70.3 day. This year is going to be the reverse though (which makes me happy since I did the 70.3 last year and am doing Barbs this year! ) and we are going to have VERY nice moderate weather Saturday. Last year the 70.3 was delightful and it never got over 75 on the run. |
