as of right now the weather is gorgeous so we're on for tonight.  also, the forecast says 40% chance of rain, so that means 60% chance of no rain.  odds are on our side for now.

I'm less optimistic about this than yesterday. Accuweather is saying 60% thunderstorm probability. Does the swimming area have lifeguards, and if so I'd assume they can/will close it if conditions are deemed unsafe?

Sucks. I'll keep an eye on the weather, but I'm not holding my breath.

I am still on for Thursday.  Is anyone else going then?  In the event of thunder and lightning tonight, will you all swim Thursday?

they do have lifeguards.  also, you won't have to worry about me, if i see lightning or flashes, i'll for sure be out of the water.

just in case anyone has trouble getting directions, take 95 to exit 67a (white marsh blvd) go to route 40 pulaski hwy north?, then right turn onto ebenezer, ebenexer will turn into grace quarters road keep heading straight and you will come up to the entrance to the park on your left.

if anyone wants to call me 856-520-5600.

look for the grey honda accord. depending on the water temp i might be wearing a wetsuit.

6:00 it is. Weather, at the Harbor at least, is looking much nicer than forecast.

Is there a fee to enter the park, do you know?

anyway, black Impreza, with my bike on the back. See you guys then.

Thanks for the directions.  I will see you tomorrow at 6:00 pm.  I'll be wearing a USMC t-shirt.

How was the swim this evening?

kelp... yeah. Good practice for those shallow water starts (I'm trying to think of a bright side here). It was pretty good practice for swimming in waves.

I scribbled a line in Google maps that put what we ran at about 3 miles.  (edit based on what I wrote in my log last night)

I hope we can do this again next week.

water temp and weather was definitely good, kelp sucked but when i stayed along the buoy line it wasn't so bad.

the run actually came out to 3 miles, i forgot when i mapped it out i included the exit road which is approx another .5 miles each way.

definitely nice to meet you guys, hope to get together again and start growing the group.

i'll be there tonight, weather permitting, to swim and get in a ride afterward.

I will see you at six.  Is the kelp really that bad?  I need to get a decent OWS.

If you stay around the buoy lines it's not so bad.

unfortunately i wont be making it tonight, can't get out of work.

hope whoever is going enjoys.

i recommend to stay near the buoy lines for 2 reasons. safety: if you're new to OWS it's shallow enough to put your feet down. ease: there is a lot less kelp along the outside of the buoy lines, makes it easier to concentrate on your stroke and not avoiding kelp.

I missed you!  I did go and hooked up with a group of young (20 something) guys.  Actually I tagged along with them.  We swam out to the buoys where there is a lot less kelp and grass.  We swam from one end to the other 4 times.  We figured it was about 2400 yards total.  The swim was tough for me as the water was really choppy.  I felt like I was swimming in the ocean.  The guys were kind enough to wait for me at the end of each length.  Otherwise I would have kept going.  They were incredibly good swimmers, but I was able to hang with them.  Not bad for a 50 something woman!

I would be interested in trying to meet again.  Keep posting!

Anyone else planning on doing this again this week? I'm planning on going tomorrow (weather permitting of course), I may go earlier than 6 - depending on when/if others are going to be there.

The park doesn't open till 8:00 - way too late for me in the morning.

I'm thinking of heading over Thursday afternoon, if anyone else is interested.

So I'm thinking about heading up to Gunpowder tomorrow morning (Sunday 9/6). It looks like the Hammerman Area beach is the best bet. Can someone give me some more detailed directions for the good swim spots?
