For some, it is not faster.  For others, the extra heat is not worth it.  For some, it is better.

In wind tunnel and rider track testing- aero helm found to be worth roughly 8-9W at 40 kph.  Best bang for your aero buck next to clip-on aerobars for road bike.

I just bought one, so we'll see.

haha I guess that poser will be me soon when I get my new bike. I hate aero helmets...I think they look ridiculous and will never wear one, plus they are damn expensive...but more power to everyone else who has them, just not for me.

Can't help with the style issue, but there are a few sweet deals around on TT helms this time of year.  Scored mine on close out for <1/2 list.
