Good luck Patricia.

My favorite saying is "Do you best and forget the rest."

If you just get up every day and do it to the best of your ability that day, you will see results. The changes in my body over the last 5 weeks have been amazing.

You can do it.

Great job everyone else as well. Your stories are so inspirational to someone like me who is just starting out.

Thanks to all.  The 3:30 thing is crazy.  I did see the last post at 4:30 start.  Maybe in the genes?  I do it at 3:30 due to my schedule. My only problem is I cant swim that early.  No pools open in AM.  I get tired at end of day (around 6-630) and convince myself I will start the next day.  We all know that.  Anyway I have 20 weeks before the HIM and about 15 weeks until I do an Olympic distance.  I am doing one in March and another in April.  I will be ready.  I going into the two most hectic weeks at the company I work for.  By the end of next week I will be able to buckle down on the swimming.  All else is going great.  I am picking up a new Felt B12 Triathlon bike Tuesday or Wednesday.  Christmas Present from my wife.  Here is the list of present my wife gave me to go with the bike-  LOL!

Felt B12 Tri Bike
Shimano Ultegra PD 6700 SPD - SL Road Pedals
Giros Saros Helmet
Pearl Izumi Tri Fly III Cycling Shoe
Cateye V2C

Nice bike!  Just from looks if I was to buy a new bike (ahem, that ain't happening soon - I bought one, sold it, and upgraded this year) it would be a Felt or Kestrel.  I really like the aero wheels that come stock on the Felts.

Consider the Bontrager aero bottle setup.  I've heard good things about it.

kiowarose - 2009-12-15 8:49 AM Good morning BamaDC
My name is Patricia Snodgrass, I am a freelance writer and married for 22 years to the best most supportive husband in the world.  I also have a loving adult son who's equally supportive and wants to help :D
I was athletic as a kid but over the years I stopped running and started gaining. After a lengthy illness that kept me virtually bedridden I gained 100 pounds.  Thanks to the Paleo diet I've taken off 37 pounds and am eager to start back to working out.
Doing a triathlon was a long dead dream, until I revived it two days ago.
Right now Im' working on base, doing the conservative couch to 5k program, plus spinning and doing dry land swimming exercises.
I'm very excited about this and hope that you'll consider me for your group.
Thanks
Patricia

Nice, my training buddy (Rogillio) has a B12. As far as Hydration setups, the length of your races will help you decide.  If your doing an Olympic or shorter, look at one one of the aero cages(Bontrager or Profile Design) for the frame and something in the aerobars(Aerobottle or the standard bottle/zip tie method).  HIM(Half Ironman) and longer I'd use a standard bottle cage.  So you can use the aid stations.

I have a P2 and use a Profile Design Aerobottle and a standard round cage on the frame.  But I've been eyeballing the Bontrager aerobottle and aerobar mounted aerobottle.  I also have a X-Lab behind the seat system,  but with no Ironman on the schedule it may not see much use this year.

Most of my races will be HIM and IM.  I was looking at the Bontrager aerobottle from a suggestion on another post.  It looks very nice.   Would you suggest getting the X-Lab?

For my Ironman's I used a profile design aerodrink and a standard cage.  You have aid stations every 10 or so miles.  So in my experience I only needed two bottles.  IMO I would only use the frame mounted aerobottles in short races.  Over the course of a Ironman or Half Ironman it would be a PITA to refill the aerobottle(frame).

I only use the x-lab during my long training rides.  For races I take it off and zip tie a spare tube, CO2/w inflator and a tire lever.  You spend a couple thousand dollars for a light aerodynamic bike.  Why weigh it down with stuff.

25 miles this morning on the bike  I have a TT course I use to test my fitness.  Today I had my best 26 mile ride avg @ 18.2.   I woke up this morning kind of feeling blah!  I dressed went out the door and about 5 minutes into the ride I started feeling good.  I said I am going to push this and see what happens.  It was great beat my best previous time by     .2 MPH over 25 miles.  May not seem like much but I pushed hard and am happy.   Two things about this accomplishment.  One on the days you don't feel like doing this - Just do it!   If you can just get out the door and get going you may suprise yourself.  If after 5 minutes you still don't want to do it than maybe you go for another day.  I think more often than not you will continue.   The alternative is that if you don't try you will never know that the day you blew it off was going to be your best training day.   The second point is that today I increased my speed over 25 miles by .2 MPH.   To the guys that place in these races it may be strange that a guy would celebrate that instead of 18.0 MPH he went 18.2  but that is the great thing about this sport.  You are only competeing against your self.   Today self won!  Good luck with your training today!

BamaDC - 2009-12-16 7:36 AM Good Morning!  What going on with everyone?

Yesterday - 2600 yd swim (good session), Jorge Bike trainer workout (meh)

This morning - 5 mile run, 2.5 at 10:30/mile (run with a friend), and then ~7:15/mile for the last 2.5.  Leg workout at lunch on tap.  I was too lazy to go in there after the run - boo to me.

Right now - pretty much slinking down in my seat at work seeing if I can get away with a nap.

Hey Mark - did you see my comment in the AL forum about goals for this year?  Might be something to kick off this group.

BamaDC - 2009-12-16 8:36 AM Good Morning!  What going on with everyone?

Just finished logging my run from this morning.  Guess I should post at "bio" here at some point.

Now that I've signed up for the mentoring group can someone give me quick run down on how it works?  Do people normally check in each day like this, look at and comment on each others logs, something different all together?  Also, is semi-private thread for us to use?

Thanks,

Rolled the ankle one week before my first full mary. Oct. 25th of this year. i was out for my last long run before i started to taper. Crushed me man. I was really starting to build a nice base. So I haven't done much over the past 6 weeks. just starting to run again on the treadmill this week. My orthopedist says the ligament in the ankle is pretty shredded and he could surgically fix it, but it would mean 4 to 6 month of recovery. I don't like that idea, so I'm working with a PT trying to strenghten the tendons around the ligament. Gonna be on a treadmill for a while rather than outside.
Glad to be in the group!!

You pretty much got it.  This is a place to talk/ask questions about training, equipment, rant about life, network with other triathletes and just have fun.  The thread isn't private anyone registered on the site will be able to see.

It more fun if you log your workouts, its kinda tough to drop by someones blog and its blank.

No worries, I'm still learning my way around here so I figured there was a pretty good chance I didn't have things setup correctly.
