Ok, I checked my log from last year- I swam in Alum Creek on May 30th last year without a wetsuit.

What is 15 days earlier??? How cold can it be?

go find the alum creek water temps on the USGS site, it will tell you exactly what the water temp is, updated every few hours;-)

Today Alum Creek got up to a nice 15C or 59F. It should be warm enough by May if we stay sunny and in the mid70s like we have been.

I would love to come up for this! I need to get a couple of open water swims in before my Memorial weekend race and this would be a great chance! I will have to check with SHMBO and make sure our day is "open" so that I can make the drive up. It would be great to put some faces together again as it has been so long since I have been active around here...

David,

Best guess what do you think the distance is for one length of the beach? I have never been up to that park so I have no idea...

Awesome, spoke with SHMBO and it looks like I might be able to make it. We just need to make sure the kids have nothing planned for that day.

I'm all in as long as my daughter's soccer tourny starts later in the day. As of now, we don't know what time it starts. I'll confirm either way as soon as I find out.

I'm not going to be able to attend.  :-(  I'm out of town the weekend before this amazing event & now by registering for Triple T, I'll be out of town the week after.  I am planning on staying at home  and riding hills on the 15th.

Have a fun time!

David - can't wait to see you and Alice in Portsmouth!  Hope I can still get a hug despite not participating in this event.  :-)

Argh...thought I might be able to make this work...but apparently not soooo much. Dang it, I was really looking forward to it. Alice and David I guess I will have to wait for Deer Creek.

PS. Kate, I have been lurking on your log (I find your logs very entertaining - sorry to have missed you at Miami) and I will look forward to meeting you and competing with you on the Deer Creek Sprint.

Whew!  Went to Alum Creek today and dipped my toesies in...  OOohhh!  Refreshing!  Think it will jump 10-20 degrees in 3.5 weeks?  As I said in prior notes, I'm in...  I suppose I should PM our "RD"!

Glad you like it- I've been distracted as of late and I hate one sentence log reports.  And DJ unless Superman can turn back time I'm a different AG than you are for Deer Creek!  I'm racing AG this year- only Athena for the OLY at the Toyota Challenge.

Well Superman may not be able to turn back time but I'll catch up to you next year - at least age wise, whether I want to or not So I guess I will have to look for you in a different colored swim cap from me - I'll be looking, sounds like Deer Creek should have a bunck of us.

David tri's - 2010-04-09 10:14 AM

Due to last years smashing success of the 56/112 mile ride at Alum Creek State Park Beach I’ve decided to organize another event for this year. This time, instead of a straight ride, we’ll do a training triathlon.

We’ll meet up at Alum Creek beach at 7:30am on Saturday, May 15th. The event will start at 8am, sharp. We’ll swim one length of the beach, starting at the north end and exiting at the south end. T1/T2 will be in the grass at the south end of the beach.

Next we’ll jump on our bikes and ride one loop (about 12.4 miles) or two loops (about 25 miles) of the Fat Rabbit bike course. You may choose to bike one or two loops, it’s up to you.

I'd really like to join you all for the swim and bike (2 loops).  It's only my 2nd time with the wetsuit and I really need the open water practice as I'm racing in 2 weeks (YIKES!

Weather Report:
Weather.com is calling for 73* with partly cloudy skies for next Saturday. Compaired to the wind and fierce cold of today that sounds pretty good.

If you have not already done so, let me know if you are coming by my house afterwards for the cookout. I'll be getting the supplies this week and want to make sure I get enough. Also, if you need my address PM me.

I don't think the kids will be coming because I would like to leave from alum and head straight to Cleveland for the Cleveland Marathon (as a supporter not a participant).

I will need food so I suppose it would make sense to participate in the cookout.

Are we bring are own food or something to share?  Our own would be easier for me this time.

I may have a newbie coming - Andrea.   Also possibly coming:  my friend Janet - who has done a couple of tris and her husband Dylan who has only done a Du and is a member here on BT (trinoobian10)

Bring something to share, it dosen't have to be huge, a pack of cookies would suffice. Let me know if the others are coming to my place after.

Ok I am in for this for sure. Only item is I am not sure if Spring is going to come or not, which brings me to another thing. Anyone in the Hamilton/Fairfield area going up for this that I might be able to catch a ride up and back with? We are down to one car at the moment and Spring isn't sure she wants to get up so early for the commute. lol

If she goes though, she is going to bring the camera to take photos of the event.
