Did you fly to Florida to do the 70.3? What did you learn in this race? Did you have fun?
Yep...and for a vacation. I met a lot of great BT'rs. It's kind of funny because my training has slacked the last 6-8 weeks, and I wasn't really into the race until I had dinner w/ the BT gang. And as soon as race day came...BAM. It's On!!! I had a great swim, enjoyed the bike, and though I walked most of the run, it was a great experience to build on towards IMWI.
What did I learn...
-If you have a good game plan, watch your nutrition & HR, and listen to your body, YOU CAN finish a HIM undertrained w/o being a physical wreck.
-Surviving heat is as much mental as physical.
-Based on "what Hurts", I know what I need to work on specifically core, calves and fip flexors.
-A good attitude and having fun is EVERYTHING!
-Enjoy the Ride! I walked the run leg
(about 11 mile of it
) with a cancer survivor named Bert. We kept each other moving forward, and probably would not have finished w/o each other's support. The bond we created is something that will stay with me forever. I finished a HIM and got a friend for life in the process!!
-I CAN swim w/o a wetsuit, just not as fast
-Did I mention a good nutrition plan?? Mine was right on except the lack of cold h2o on the bike leg & the loss of my garmin from mile 35 may have caused me to take in more fluid
(specifically h2o
) than I could process.
-InfinIT nutrition Rocks!!! Thanks Kleinrider!
-As Matt Damon said in Rounders..."Always have a way out." Since I was relying on my Garmin and it freaked out on the bike, I was "time & HR Blind" for about 21 miles. I think I put out too much on the last 10 of the bike since I felt great.
-Don't count on technology! I need to rely more on what my body is telling me, and less on what the "toyz" tell me.
I should have a more detailed race report once I get back home on Saturday...
