New user 26 Littleton, CO | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread I am in too, registered a few weeks ago. Anyone else in the Denver area?? Usually by June I am climbing nicely, but by early May, I am slightly concerned how/where to get the higher grade cycling training done. Bike trainers...any thoughts on good brands that won't destroy tires and wheelsets?? Just got my full-length XTerra Vortex wetsuit -- been using a sleeveless for the Boulder July/August events the past few years, but SG will be chilly! Next purchase...neoprene swim cap. Looking forward to a good event-specific thread!

Extreme Veteran 635 Ajo | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread tmoran07 - 2012-11-28 5:11 PM So Snow Canyon is a pretty good climb from what I understand? 4 miles of 5-9% grade? If you just plug in the gain of the rise over the distance of the run, for example... approx. 1100 ft. for 8 miles from mile 37 to mile 45, then the overall grade is only 2.65%, so plan on that and find an appropriate pace. My goal wattage for the race is 240w, so I'll plan to stay right there for that mountain, about 240 to 250w, which would be approximatly a 16 to 17 mph avg. for the 8 miles... that is how you got to look at it.

Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread So I am thinking about making this my first HIM. I did my first tri last September, an Olympic. I loved it. When I finished I set my sights on a half. Am I crazy to have this be my first half? |

Crowie just confirmed! Here is a quick list of some of the Pros: Crowie, Potts, Ben Hoffman, Sebastian Kienle, Leanda Cave, Lindsey Corbin... The race will be epic. Hardest 70.3 in the circuit with some of the best pros competing. I'm glad I'm signed up! |

I can't wait to see them in person and compare there times to mine. I know they are good and it will be interesting to see how much better they are then me. |

New user 77 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread St. George will be my first 70.3. I've thought a lot about whether or not it was wise for me to choose this course as my first one and so early in the season since I live in VA. I think the challenge of the course has driven me to be more disciplined. 12 weeks of the 27 week training plan done and I have not missed a work out (I've had to shuffle a few but never missed). With almost half of the plan done, I feel great but the challenging parts of the plan are ahead. I love the idea of pro's being there too - I think it's going to be a blast! |

Veteran 168 Taylorsville Ut | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread This will be my first as well. I am looking forward to riding all of the canyons around here and doing some killer brick workouts to prepare. I am really looking forward to the downhill section on the bike. I hope it is long enough for my legs to stop burning. If not.....oh well. I do have a question for all of you though.. What time are you looking to complete this one in? I would love to go 7 hours, but I know that will be a real push and will be happy to just finish. |

I did the Bear Lake Man 70+ last year in 5:34 and I would be very happy if I can finish this one in under 6. Looking at the course profile keeping it under 6 is going to be extremely challenging. At least for me... |

The way my training has been going I think Garr's got me! BTW, I am planning a training ride on the course on March 8th. I'll post details as the date gets closer and anybody can come with if you are interested. Finally, I saw on Facebook that there are only 10 spots left. If you want to join us for IMSG 70.3 you'd better do it now!!! |

Master 1410 White Plains NY | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread I have a question about race day logistics. I am renting a car and my GF and I are both doing the race. Nobody else will be with us. We are using tribiketransport, so the bike situation is taken care of. So do we drive out to the swim start race morning? We do the race, and with the two point transition we finish in town, but what about getting back out to the car after the race? |

Veteran 168 Taylorsville Ut | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread Great line of questions, but I have a couple more. This is my first Ironman event. Do we do bike drop off the night before or is transition to be set up the morning of race. I can't imagine that same day is the case, but just wondering. Will there be a T1 cleanup and truck at the finish with all the stuff? I bet all of these things will be figured closer to the race but any insight would be great! |

All Ironman branded 70.3 races I have done have had me rack the bike the day before the race. |

Regular 183 Parker, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 St. George : Official Thread When I did NOLA 70.3 with a similar setup (in that case, T1 and T2 at the start, with the run finish 10 miles away), bike setup was the day before, you drove yourself to the start, and there were race buses from the finish back to transition. My best guess is that here you drive yourself to start/T1 the day before to get your bike setup, then race day park near the finish and take race buses to the start, then get yourself back to T1 afterward to pickup your morning clothes and swim stuff. I guess it's possible they will run shuttles between the finish and T1 after the race - maybe someone who has experience in the full can chime in. |
