Keep it simple, keep it uncluttered.
T1 -
goggles into swim cap
swim cap into wetsuit
put on helmet, fasten buckle
put on suglasses
shoes are already on bike, water, nutrition already attached to bike
grab bike
go!
T2 -
take feet out of shoes, leave shoes on bike
unclip helmet while running through transition with bike
rack bike ( by seat or handle bars, whatever is your preference )
take off helmet
visor is sitting on running shoes, which are sitting on race belt
put on visor
running socks are half inside out, sitting in each running shoe
put toes in sock, pull on rest of way
running shoes have speed laces, so nothing to tie, just slip on
gel taped to race belt w/ number ( for an oly distance )
pick up race belt and start running
put on race race belt while leaving transition
Practice this before you race, and before the race visualize yourself going through the steps.
Another helpful tip is to walk to/from the transition entrances and exits before the race, so you can visualize landmarks. Don't key off of other bikes. You can bring chalk or the like to draw arrows, or a tie a balloon to your rack area and key off of that.
