Veteran 165 Aylmer, Qc | Subject: RE: The Mac's training group - OPEN for 2 more people! Mac... Room for another member in your group? Name is Bryan. On July 18th last year I was 280 lbs with a 31% BF%. I decided: enough of this. Turned the lifestyle around... Fast forward to today: 193 lbs, 12% BF%. Ran my first ever race (10k) on May 26th: 52:31. Of course, I have skipped many details! I am 35 years old, married, father of two. I "discovered" my interest for multisports only recently, when I figured I needed to introduce cross-training in my training plan. Guess what? I enjoyed it! Plan is to do my very first Tri on September 1st. Since I have to start somewhere, it will be a try-a-tri: 200M/15k/5k. Already looking forward to it. Been on BT for a few months now, but only discovered this morning the mentor program. Hoping there is still a bit of room for yet another "big guy". I may have loss a bunch, but in my head I will always be a "big guy" |

17 | Subject: RE: The Mac's training group - OPEN for 2 more people! Hi Kevin, Hi fellas. Back into it hard today. Took a few days off, had tightness in left calf, (it was even bothering me when I swam) anyway, I did do some light strength and core training. Iced that calf the first couple days, used hydrotherapy (sat in the whirlpool) and it seemed to respond to the combination. I was going stir crazy. Today, I swam 700 meters interval training and the did a walk/run warm up and then ran 2 8-minute miles. I feel good, icing my calf as I speak, no pain whatsoever, just doing preventative medicine. I have come to the resolution that ongoing rest and preventative medicine such as icing will really help in the day to day rigors of training and recovery. Hows things for you? everyone else? I see we have a new member in the group. Nice!! soon we will have a literal "ton" of men crossing finish lines all over the country. Now thats what I am talking about . Tom |

Pro 3673 MAC-opolis | Subject: RE: The Mac's training group - room for ONE more Welcome Brian! I myself tip the scales at 250 but have never let that stop me from my tri goals. Anyone racing this weekend? I have a sprint here in Miami. I wish I could say that I'm ready for it but truth be told, it's been hard to get out there and stay motivated since the half iron last month and the minor financial crisis that has been the story of June. Is everyone following a training program? Do you guys have a specific goal within the next say 6 months? An "A" race that you have circled as this season's goal? |

Pro 3673 MAC-opolis | Subject: RE: The Mac's training group - OPEN for 2 more people! Public big man service announcment Just got my new 2XU shorts in today and they fit great in XXL. I don't like to race in 2-piece. I much prefer tri suits. However, Team GU sent me a short and top from 2XU in XL and I can squeeze into the top, but the shorts were way too small. I sold em on EBAY and re-ordered an XXL in the same model (long distance short) and they fit this big guy nicely. $85 at Trisports.com, but worth it if you are looking for a short. |

17 | Subject: RE: The Mac's training group - OPEN for 2 more people! Hi Bill, I am committed to Lake Las Vegas triathalon on Sept 1. It will be my first event. I initially started with the 12 week to sprint program and then worked into the 10 week Oly training program. My question is this, Should I do the sprint for my first race or step up to the international length?? I feel like I could complete the international length, my long swims are up to 700 yards and am on pace to attain the zero to 1650 program in 6 weeks. I started biking 6 miles to and from work (on a mountain bike) will be getting my road bike in mid-july and my run is solid 30-35 minutes and pace is getting faster and faster. (Aside from a calf tightening set back which feels great) No tightness again today, I did an hour long spin class and was strong the whole way through. That being said, I don't want to bite off more than I can chew by attempting and not completing the international length. I am 7 weeks away and have read to taper off a week or so before race. What do you think?? Kevin, Good racing Sunday...you'll be in my prayers. Tom |

This will give you a reference point for where you are at in relation to actually racing. You can start an OLY program now and schedule a race in November...that would work. But 9/1 seems a little quick. Just my .02 |

17 | Subject: RE: The Mac's training group - OPEN for 2 more people! Thanks MAC I think your counsel is on target. Will train hard to get good times and start to look ahead to another race this season. I see your recommendation on race gear. single piece vs two piece. Do tri suits have the pad in the seat like bicycle shorts? I was thinking about using jammers and then pull my bike shorts over Your experience is so helpful. Thanks Tom |

I received my 2XU comp shorts today from trisports.com ($54.00). They also fit great. I would also recommend these. Also, Bill are you taking part in the Team GU promotion? If so, what do you think about it? Edited by kevnb72 2007-06-21 10:16 PM |

Veteran 165 Aylmer, Qc | Subject: RE: The Mac's training group - OPEN for 2 more people! On my side, two "A" events that are keeping me going and motivated. My first tri on September 1st (200M/15K/5K), and my second shot at going sub 50:00 in the 10K, on October 13th. Already pretty confident about both, and looking forward to training this summer to improve, and really kick some serious butt!! |

Do tri suits have the pad in the seat like bicycle shorts? I was thinking about using jammers and then pull my bike shorts over Your experience is so helpful. Thanks Tom I find suits more comfortable than 2-piece; but it's really a preference call. All tri suits and tri shorts have a thin chamois for a pad that dries out pretty quick. Never swim in bike shorts as the padding is too thick and will retain alot of water which equals serioius chaffing. IMHO, bike shorts are probably not necessary for a sprint since you are only going to be riding for 10 miles. In fact, my first sprint I wore Speedo jammers for the whole race, including the bike. But I would invest in a suit or a pair of tri shorts. |

If so, what do you think about it? Yup, I am on Team GU this season. It's a great promo as you will get about $1000 worth of GU products for your up front payment of $189. You earn points for racing in their gear and cash in those points for GU stuff. You get 50 points for each sprint and 100 for half and full irons. You can obtain a max of 300 points for the season. I think a case of 48 gels is 50 points so you can score 6 cases on top of the 4 cases they send you initially. Plus they hook you up with uniforms, water bottles, Gu20, shirs, socks, hats, etc. etc.. You are also given 2 times to place a bulk order for any of their stuff at wholesale so if any of you guys want some GU at wholesale, let me know. I'll do an order later in the season. |

Regular 67 Land of Make Believe | Subject: RE: The Mac's training group - OPEN for 2 more people! rode 17 miles of hills yesterday... I am on vacation in northern wisconsin... the terrain is much different than southeast texas... I am pretty much wiped out... we drove up... had some tire issues on the way up, we were going to stop at some relatives on the second day, but decided to just drive straight through... 23 hours... ouch... but we had a great many guardian angels lookin out for us on the trip... had 2 flat tires (same one twice), first one fixed with a can of fix a flat, the second was changed on I-80 in Des Moines... the Iowa state patrol stopped to help, which a real blessing, makes it alot safer... had to drive 5 miles on the donut to a walmart to get a new tire, thankfully they were open, even though the wait was 1.5 hours... so we got our tire changed and drove through the rest of the night... yipee! I need to find a scale to weigh in on today... but with the amout of Barley/Hops/Grain water (aka, beer) I consumed yesterday, I'm hoping I just stay at the 312 mark... have a good week all! |
