The challenge is on.  Hope you guys have better luck logging your stages than you do spelling or pronouncing your name.  Oh well ... I'm sure you all look fabulous in flaming orange spandex.

I guess the barlo people need all the inane humor and bad photoshop pics they can get. Good for them. Someone tell them that kindergarteners love when someone farts. I'm sure they will keep someone in stitches.

Lets go for a more esoteric brand of humor and really, why do we need to stoop to their level.

However, a well placed "you guys friggin suck" may be in order one of these days.

Anyway first ride in the books here. 1.5 hard trainer hours. Have a good weekend people.

No luck with the bolt cutter this morning.  I'm going to a locksmith shortly to try that.  I'll have to make up for it tomorrow.  Locks are a pain in the .

I guess you can take solace in the fact that if you can't break the lock, no one else could either...

Glad to see our first ride posted. My morning ride was bagged due to bad weather. Will have to make up on the trainer....    Hoping for better weather tomorrow.

Got my first ride in the books. Super windy day along the water in Tampa, but it allowed me to pretend for a little while that I was going as fast as those guys I watched this morning...

Hi everyone-

Just back from traveling.  Haven't had a chance to read any of the prior posts but if we do not have a team captain, I will volunteer.  I have done it before and it is no big deal.  Off for a swim and then a trainer ride to honor the prologue TT.  Hope everyone is doing great and enjoying the summer.....Team E-E rocks!

Yay, we have a leader!

Our guys in orange didn't seem to have a strong showing this morning in London. I'm guessing they're saving it up for the mountains.

gaiaserver, welcome back and thanks for volunteering!

OrbeaMan-

What are you riding?  I am riding an Onix.  Like it very very much.

As for the team leadership, I think Willie05 beat me to the punch.

Just for sh1ts and grins, here is my TdF challenge plan:

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

I am in for 21 rides (can't forget the prologue)...on the days the pros ride, I ride.  I will also try to emulate the type of ride that is being conducted (knowing that I can always jump on the trainer in the morning while the race is on for the 15min qualifier as a last resort).  When there is a time trial, I will spin on the trainer for the same amount of time as the stage win in 2006 (except for the prologue which I will double).  The distances are pretty close.  The "plains" rides will be ridden on my flat courses at the distance of 1 mile for every 10km in the Tour.  The "mountain" stages will be ridden on my hill courses....moderate on the "medium mountain" and hard (for me) on the  "high mountain" days.  I would love to keep the distance conversions but I don't have the skill (yet) to do both distance and climbing. Rest days are rest days.  And to add to the plan, I will celebrate the finish of each ride with a beer from the country the Tour is in.  Is this over the top yet?  Probably so, but the Tour only happens once a year.  A breakdown is as follows:

P:    July 7     time trial     16:34 (2006 - Thor Hushovd, 8:17)
1:    July 8     plain     20.3 miles
2:    July 9     plain     16.9 miles
3:    July 10   plain     23.7 miles
4:    July 11   plain     19.3 miles
5:    July 12   med mountains     moderate hills course
6:    July 13   plain     20 miles
7:    July 14   high mountains     hard hills course
8:    July 15   high mountains     hard hills course

       July 16   rest

9  :  July 17   high mountains     hard hills course
10:  July 18   plain     23 miles
11:  July 19   plain     18.3 miles
12:  July 20   med mountains     moderate hills course
13:  July 21   time trial     (2006 Honchar 1:01:43  52km)
14:  July 22   high mountains     hard hills course
15:  July 23   high mountains     hard hills course

       July 24   rest day

16:  July 25   high mountains      hard hills course
17:  July 26   plain     18.9 miles
18:  July 27   plain     21.1 miles
19:  July 28   time trail     (2006 Honchar 1:07:45  56km)
20:  July 29   plain     14.6 miles     champagne!

TEAM E-E ROCKS!!!!

I got my first ride in tonight.  Nothing special but just a nice easy 30 min. this evening to get the legs moving.  It's been a rough day so it was nice to just get out there and move a bit.

Hi Team - there has been a query with regard to cycle commutes, should they be counted as one stage or two?

Ive already stated that two a day workouts are fine i.e a spin class in the morning and a road ride at night would be two stages BUT a commute could be argued to be different as technically you HAVE to ride both ways...

Personally I think it comes down to how you counted it when you committed your stages... as long as you state how you are counting your commute in the beginning and stick to it I have no major objections but if anyone has a strong opinion regarding this please let me know.

Thanks

Cat

PS: HUGE congratulations to everyone who has already got a ride in for the challenge

I think it depends on the commute.  I know some ppl have some seriously hard commutes, and those should definitely count as two.  For a quick commute that barely covers the required time I would say that there and back would count as one.  But then again that depends on the rider....what is hard for some is easy for others.  (Besides there's always the option of taking the bus home or getting a ride or something to avoid the second half of your commute).  Anyway I agree that it should go with how ppl were planning to count it when they made their goals, and as long as they stick to one method then not a big deal.

Got my first ride in this morning - just a little over an hour on all hills.  Little bit of a struggle on a bike that doesn't fit that great.  But whatever works!

1 down, 11 to go!

Has anyone noticed the pro riders on out team (E-E) don't seem to be very prominent in the Tour?

I think we will have more success than them!

Ride #2 is planned for tomorrow morning before work on the trainer.  Good luck to everyone riding today!

Saw that last night on the Versus prime time coverage. The orange jersey was easy to sight.

Ride 1/12 in the books for me. A 25.5 mile on a relatively flat course but with a wicked headwind (that should count for something!)
