Could you recommend some books and other resources you used to start off with?
It may sound boring, but it all starts in the head. Once you "turn the switch" and make the commitment to change your lifestyle, things just follow. There was not one book that made a difference for me, but I did read tons and tons of material both on the web and in books.
I started from scratch (ie: fitness walking ). So the first "important" book I got was by Mark Fenton: The Complete Guide to Walking for Health, Weight Loss, and Fitness.
After that, the "rest was history".
One thing that really did it for me was to treat the journey just as if I was an athlete. Okay, maybe a real big and slow one in the beginning, but I viewed myself as an athelete in training and competition, not just a guy trying to lose weight. It's mostly a mental thing, but it was huge for me.
