Champion 16151 Checkin' out the podium girls | Subject: RE: Am I missing anything In the description, they mention "hollow tech" and octalink" Those are your clues. You need this (or Ultegra similar) BB: http://www.excelsports.com/new.asp?page=8&description=Dura%2DAce+Bo... You MUST buy a Shimano one; that spline pattern is proprietary. Ritchey licensed it, but I think only for the cranks and they don't make a BB. I think you might also find a 105 version, but those keywords will guide your search. Again 68x108 english size. |

Would this work? I know yous said 68X108 but the link shows 68X109. The one I attached is a BB-6500 that is 68X109.5. Not sure if the .5 is important. |

Master 3019 West Jordan, UT | Subject: RE: Am I missing anything I would check the compatibility guides from shimano: They will tell you what parts go with what. The BB spindle length is to maintain a good chainline. A couple mm off is usually OK, but the exact matched BB is ideal. That ultegra 6500 crankset is only $69 from nashbar. (They also have the 105 for $50) With shipping, the one on ebay won't be that much cheaper. If you order from Nashbar, at least you can get some support and the ability to return/exchange it. Nashbar could prob make sure you get the right size BB as well. Just a thought. I know when I built my MTB, I ended up with a few wrong parts and it was nice to be able to exchange them.

Champion 5575 Butler | Subject: RE: Am I missing anything tkbslc - 2007-12-04 12:41 PM I am definately checking out nashbar as I go. I did see the crank and it is about $15.00 more than ebay but I agree the ability to exchange. The problem is they don't have the Bottom Bracket I need. I looked on sheldon brown and it looks like I need a 68X109.5 BB based on the crank I want to get and I can get that for around $35 +- shipping. How hard are cranks to install. I am assuming I will need specials tools is that correct? I would check the compatibility guides from shimano: They will tell you what parts go with what. Jensonusa.com has the 105 crankset and BB for $55 and $35. (I've been toying with bilding up a 9 speed Tri bike so I am having fun looking at 9 speed setups today ) Here's my cart, it should be a good start for you. Hope the links work, but if not you can hunt down the parts on Jensonusa yourself. You'l need a specific crank and BB tool, so plan on buying or borrowing those.

It is not for 1 part, but when you times an extra 10-20 bucks by 10 parts you have an extra 100-$200. I'm cheap, what can I say?

Champion 5575 Butler | Subject: RE: Am I missing anything tkbslc - 2007-12-04 2:49 PM I totally agree. I actually looked at buying all the parts I need in either 105, ultegra and DA new and compared a few websites. I found DA the highest obviously by far at around $1200, Ultegra around $600 and 105 at $400. I am figuring this will be my first/last tri bike for a while so hopefully the better components will payoff in the long run. At least that is my rational. I am definately keeping an eye on some 105 parts especially if the ultegra go outside my budget.kproudfoot - 2007-12-04 12:39 PM tkbslc thanks for the info.
