sigepbrad - 2009-06-18 8:13 PM Jen said she is on her way. I then reminded her that you have the triathlon bug as bad as I do and she changed her mind. Sorry. Her next boyfriend will not be a triathlete.

A week and a half 'til the big one? You ready? I've got an olympic on Saturday. Can't wait. Didn't we have some kind of bet for your first olympic? We should probably do the same for mine. I'm shooting for 2:30:00. Are you in? What are the terms?

2:30  you serious? .

Well, er, I was..... Maybe my goal is too ambitious. I don't know what I'm doing.
Here's how I think it might be possible. I know each of these paces are doable by themselves, and they are close to the same as what I did last week. The swim pace is based on 15 min 1/2 mile, which I can do easy in the pool. I was 16:30 I think in last weeks race. Swim - doable
Bike is a little slower pace than last week, but last weeks course was flat. Not sure about this one. May have some wiggle room here.
Run, well, in my mind I know I can do 7:45 for 6.2, but we'll see. All that leaves me with just under 2 min for transitions.

I noticed last week that I came across the finish line, took about 2 medium sized breaths, and was 100% normal. I wasn't out of breath or tired. Now last night, on the other hand, I did a 40 min run with 20 second strides every 5 minutes. When I got home, I was out of breath for 5 minutes, literally huffing and puffing.

I think I left way too much gas in the tank last week. So, what else is there to do than run out of gas early this week, right? Foot in mouth

I got the stakes. If I go under 2:30:00, I write your signature. If I don't you write mine. Looser keeps it as their signature for 2 weeks?  Like any good wager, the payoff is based on the odds. The ramifications are bigger for you, since you post waaaayyyy more than me. Is it a bet?

Maybe you should give up triathlon and take a crack at comedy! I wish dry humor came across online better, because I normally enjoy it. Maybe the joke hit a little too close to home. Come friday afternoon we'll find out if John is a an aspiring comedian, or if I think too highly of my new found abilities, and way overestimated my performance. No worries either way. But, if I miss my goal by too much, I'll come crawling back to BT with my tail between my legs.

Bill - Good luck on your short bike ride tomorrow! What's your goal, 450 or so?

Oh yeah. However looses our bet - If anyone asks about the signature, we are only allowed to answer "it's true."

Well John, you better have something good for me! Didn't quite make 2:30. My unofficial time was 2:45:15. I'll fill you in on something that I'm sure you don't understand. It is a beeyotch to run in the hot sun!! I was not prepared for that. I was hoping for a 7:45 pace. Try 9:05Yell
I have a new found respect for triathletes in the great state of Texas! I'll fill out the race report later, I'm going to bed. Our boy Bill is out riding circles right now. He's about 5 hours in, only 19 to go.

I had a great time (for the last 2 - 3 minutes anyway, the rest was simply miserable). Can't wait for the next one! I'll have the details post later this weekend.

Happy fathers day John and Bill!

I like it..... Boy, am I glad your a nice guy. You could have made it muck worse. Here's what I had in mind if I didn't overestimate my skills by 15 minutes:

"Everything might be bigger in Texas, but triathletes are faster in Michigan."

Well, we both have a 1/2 coming up....

I'm afraid we lost Bill. I can't find the results for the National 24 hour challenge online anywhere.

Hey Guys!

I'm back amongst the "living".....357.7 miles.....and I'm absolutely shredded.....

This was absolutely the most physically/mentally demanding event that I've done.  So much to write about the entire experience, don't even know where to begin.  I'm still not hitting on all cylinders just yet, will collect my thoughts and put together a detailed race report.

Feeling much better today, but EVERYTHING hurts....I've never experienced this before, I ended up with a NASTY case of "rider's hands"/carpal tunnel issues.  By the time I got home Sunday, my ring and pinkie fingers on both hands were completely numb and I had absolutely no hand strength.  So bad that I could not write, type, or even hold a fork and knife until late yesterday, crazy!!  It is getting better, but still not 100%.....

John:  Thanks for the shirt!  I'll wear it proudly.  Rest well in preparation for the weekend.  Your fitness is all in the bank at this point.  You can't make any more deposits, but you can sure lower the balance.  You will feel like you aren't doing enough, but follow the plan!!

Brad:  Nice job at Johan's.  The sudden warm weather is a real slap in the face, eh?  I got to experience that on Saturday...

Tough crowd. 480.1, amazing. That's 20 mph average the entire time. He must have had a rolling average 23 or so?
Actually, 357.7 miles is amazing as well. Were you able to hook up with a group for most of the ride? How about the crash at the beginning. Were you mixed up in that?

The winner was 30 year old Chris Ragsdale, who just happens to be from Grand Haven, Michigan (lives in Seattle now).  My neighbor's brother was his best friend in high school and crews for him during this race every year.  The ultra stuff is his thing.  Crazy fast.....with the mandatory checkpoints, we were easily off the bike for at least 60 minutes, not including bio breaks or refueling.  Of course, he had his crew pulling him most of the day, but still.....

Results are now posted!  I ended up 6th in my AG and 17th overall!!  Unbelievable for my first time out, had no idea I'd even come close to finishing this strong....Will I do it again?  Not for awhile if I do.....To exceed what I did this year, would need extreme focus on the bike with more, longer rides.  Would cut into my tri plans a ton and I'm not sure the Minister of Domestic Affairs would tolerate it......

Hands are still not right....I'm calling the doc tomorrow.  Hoping that a turbo dose of anti-inflammatories will help?  Need the legs to come back soon so I can re-focus on the September Ultra!

John:  the big day draws near, how do you feel?  You WILL rock this thing!

I hope your hands get better. If your wife is as enthusiastic about your training as mine is, your going to need at least one of them!
Let's go for this Ragsdale character! We can get a group of 10 or so guys whose main goal is to pull you around the course. Maybe 2011? I've got 2 clyde sized friends who are a dream to draft behind. They are fast too.

Awesome results, sucks about the hands.  Hope it goes well at the doc.  What Ultra in Sep?  That looks cool!  50 miles is long long way to run.  You thinking about the Western States on day.  I'd love to have one of those belt buckles.

I'm feeling good.  A wave of nerves hit yesterday but have since backed off a bit.  Bike left today.  I fly up tomorrow.  Really I just want a damn beer.  And I'm reading for this heat to be over but we still have a ways to go.  Just for kicks I did the sweat rate determination on my last run.  1/2 hour at a  very easy pace 10 min/mile.  I lost three pounds.  Worse though we need some rain down here!

Each very tough in their own way!  How are you feeling?  Any chinks in the armor?

Went to see the family doc today re the hands.  Funny, her response was "You did WHAT?  For how long?" when I explained what was going on.  Seems to think I just have a nasty case of inflammation at all the key nerve bundles and started me on a turbo dose of steroids.  Have an appt. with the local carpal tunnel guru in a couple weeks if that doesn't help.....

Have now started focused run training in prep for the North Country Trail run in September.  You know, I really don't miss the bike that much right now....

Funny you should ask... my thumbs, esp the right one are numb.  I even have a difficult time turning the key to start my truck.  I can tell its getting better but still.  I think it has to do with riding out of aero so much during the race.  Is that possible?

edit.  else a little sore in the legs but otherwise I feel great!

Sore legs and numb thumbs? Sounds pretty good to me. If I can finish I'll take any of the pain. Nice work man! You have turned into an athlete!

Pep talk time. I need one. My swim is killer right now, but I'm not feeling too good about the bike and run. I did that century ride and felt bullet proof, and I did great in the 25k in may, but my olympic kicked my . What can I do in 1 month to make sure I'm ready? I figure I have this week and next week to go all out before taper. What do you guys think. I'll take any suggestions no matter how painful they sound.
