Hope everyone had a great day......weather forecast continues to look good. Was warm enough to sneak out on the motorcycle for a short ride yesterdayWink.....much to my wife's chagrin. Got my swim and bike in last night......seem to be holding my own. Today is run day.....will have to hit the gym track quick between jobs today......have from 4:30 until 7:00 minus 40 minutes drive time.

Good morning everyone!

Sorry I was MIA yesterday. I was in bed with a massive headache. 2011 hasn't been my year so far.

What's everyone have on tap for today?

eurasn1 - 2011-02-14 7:59 PMHi everyone.  Sorry I've been MIA for the past few days.  Sinus infection got me.  A couple more days of antibiotics and I'll be good to go.  Doc says I should be ready to start working out again on Wed or Thurs this week.  Hope everyone is doing well.
Ugh, sorry to hear. Anne wasn't feeling well either from what I read. So yesterday, with the weather being so nice here (40*+) i thought hey let's run outside. Went to the forest preserve trail nearby and wow what was i thinking. It was a cross between frozen slush and mud. I was going to take a picture but forgot. The back of my pant legs were coated in a nice muddy slime. Was actually kind of funny trying to get inside without tracking it everywhere. Anyway, hope everyone is having a good day and sticking to the training schedules. Race season is almost here!!!! Btw for those near Chicago, what races are you doing this year? I'm doing the Indy half marathon in Mary, the trishark in June, the Naperville sprint in August and thinking about the Chicago Tri as my Oly at the end of the season (my goal for this year was to work up to an Oly).

Good Morning Everyone!

I have a pretty productive week so far even though i have not documented it yet. Yesterday was suppose to be a spin class which was great but then i ended up in Zumba right after so  i got more of a workout then i anticipated. I had planned to do a long swim today but I think i will run today swim tomorrow. Running outside wont be happening for me...too cold and dry. I think my ultimate goal for training is the beaches to battleships in November but maybe thats too much?

50's here the next 2 days, then 60's on Friday. I imagine everything will be mud though with the amount of snow that has melted this week. It's to drop back into the 30's over the weekend.

My family is accustomed to me stripping in the garage or the kitchen when I come home wet and muddy.

Are you thinking the 70.3 or the 140.6?

I have the Chicago Tri Sprint on the radar, but I havent officially registered yet. I am registered for the Warsaw Optimist Sprint in June, which will be my first tri. Will do some 5k's and fun events (Muddy Buddy and maybe Warrior Dash). There is an Exterra in Logansport that sort of caught my eye as well......never get tired of playing in the dirt, I guess. Once the mud dries up I plan to begin using my usual mountain bike trails for some trail running too.

We had a big melt off today, too.
Temp in the high 50's, but still a lot of ice around (takes more than one day to melt off a 6 inch accumulation of ice, with snow on top of it).

Did get out on real bikes today though - family ride with kids and trailers and such. A couple of places, we had to get off the bikes and walk them over the remaining ice (which was usually a thin crust of ice or slush with big puddles underneath). Sure was nice to be riding out in the fresh air tho.

Been spinning all Winter to keep my cycling legs best as possible. Didn't get much cardio out of the family ride, but man, pulling that darn trailer up hills was different than anything that happens on a spin bike. No substitute for real gravity I guess.

Good morning everyone!

The thermometer at my house said 56 yesterday. It is supposed to be just as warm today, then warmer tomorrow. It gets cold by the weekend, but hopefully it doesn't stay that way for long.

I got a mile walk in yesterday and 50 minutes of yoga.

What's everyone doing today?

Hi everyone......beautiful temps here in NW IN....close to 60 today.....80% of the snow is GONE! Weatherman says 40's and sun tomorrow, hopefully that will take care of the rest....I can deal with the cold if it's dry and snow free for a while. Well, work got in the way again so no gym this am, but I did swing in for my swim and bike after work. Been  working hard on the swim.....one silly little thing that made a huge difference was a $2 nose clip. WIthout getting water in my nose and throat, I'm able to concentrate on correcting my breathing. Getting there. One thing I noticed tonight though is I think I'm trying to do too much at once. I'm working on breathing, head position, hip rotation, elbow high, kick all at once and really not doing well at any. I decided that starting with next swim I will work on 1 item for a full week before moving to the next.....maybe this will help. How's everyone else doing on their training?

I swim with a nose clip, too. I was getting headaches, sinus infections, constant ear infections and was miserable in the water. A friend of mine who used to be on a swim team recommended I try a nose clip, I got one, I liked it, but I tried 2 more before I finally found one I really liked. Now I swim with it all the time. Having a nose clip has made a huge difference for me, too.

Morning all!  Fell off the grid for a bit but am coming back to life.  Workouts have been virtually non-existant for me over the past week, due to work/home schedule.  (Wife is in Sweden for 2 weeks for work, so I'm single-dad until next Friday.  It's fun but time becomes a commodity.)

Got the MRI results back yesterday.  Right knee: better of the 2; only one small meniscus tear.  Left knee: multiple tears in both menisuses (meniscii?); frayed ACL (already been reconstructed once); lots of osteo-arthritis.

Scheduling scope #3 on the left knee.  Going to leave the right one alone for now.  I think I can train through it as it isn't too bad right now.

Most of the season is pretty well shot at this point.  I might be able to do some late season stuff but I'll have to wait to see how recovery goes.  At the very least, I can start to build a solid base for next year.

Hope everyone else's training is moving along nicely and that the weather is good enough to get outside.  Cheers!

Personal best 500 yard swim time. Now remember, I just started swimming lessons in October, so I know I am still not fast by the standards of people here. But I did the 500 in 14 minutes. Previously I had not broken 20.

I think it is mostly from an adjustment my swim teacher had me do last Tuesday. I was pushing my head too far down in the water and creating a lot of drag. Just lifting my chin a bit, I can feel I move thru the water easier. And, as a bonus, I can see what is happening in front of me Cool

Awesome! As a new swimmer I can only aspire to even DOING 500 yards.... about 2 laps and rest is the best I can do.....but 6 weeks ago I stuggled from one end of the pool to the other. Your success gives me something to shoot for.

Good morning everyone!

How was your weekend?

My weekend was crazy. I have 2 kids, and they had 3 birthday parties and 2 sleepovers they were invited to this weekend. I did get some yoga done, and some hiking with my pups.

I'm helping in my daughter's class this morning, then getting a workout in this afternoon.

Hey Everyone!

I have been occupied by my grant writing but worked out pretty much everyday this past week and started with a 15 mile bike ride today! I would really like some suggestions on bikes! I have a Fuji and its really light weight but its only a 7 speed.  There is a bike shop that is willing to make modifications to my bike but i was wanted to get some suggestions from you guys first. Hope everyone is doing well!
