Extreme Veteran 494 Morris County, NJ | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Tri Sam - 2010-05-20 3:19 PM I forgot to post this. TT results from Monday. There were 40-something of us in the Men's class. Here are the top 10. Tom Burke by the way works at a local bike shop and is an expert fitter. His attention to detail in impecable. ...and he's fast as h***. I was two seconds slower than TT #1, so consistency is good. Well Sam, that was just plain bleepin fast. My husband is doing his first ever TT this weekend. Now, I will probably be ashamed of him. Thanks.

Veteran 139 | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Sam - fantastic TT - congratulations I hope you had fun & averaging close to 25 mph is super fast! Doing my first TT this Sunday in NJ, looking forward to having some fun with it. I agree with you about the Landis situation, very disappointing. In the end I think there will be the usual pattern : allegations, rebuttal, legal action, investigations and a lot of $$ spent, but life and pro cycling will go on the way it always has. S. |

Master 1989 New Jersey | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread I think it makes Landis look like a fool. All that time denying, denying, denying. Then when he admits to it, he has to bring down others. Just like the little kid - well, if I can't play, I'm taking my ball and going home. i would have had more respect for him if he just said he did it, even if he said he did because that's what "everyone" did/does and just leave it at that. People have their own opinions of Lance regardless of what Landis says. |

Extreme Veteran 475 Watertown, MA | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Two things on Landis: first, for him personally it's just beyond pathetic and awful. Never mind that he fought for years to clear his name, but he took over a million dollars from people who believed in him to do it. It honestly makes me wonder how much you can believe a person who raises all that money for a cause he knows to be a lie. That said, my second thought: American cycling could be ripped to shreds if this plays out poorly. The names he's included--Hincapie, Levi, and Armstrong--are pretty much the backbone of US cycling of the past decade. Radio Shack and Garmin in particular...what happens to sponsorship when the team leader is implicated in a huge doping scandal? Anyway, my thoughts on doping are one of 'I'm not surprised but I am disappointed'--regardless of the name involved. The issue rests not on the individual, as cyclists basically join teams and are told to dope, but on the director sportif and the team itself. Unfortunately the individual is always the one thrown to the wolves while the real problem is never addressed. |

Extreme Veteran 475 Watertown, MA | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Anyone going to be in NH over Memorial Day weekend? I'm headed up there for the whole weekend and am planning on at least two rides and perhaps a swim or two, if anyone's around I'd love to get some group training going. |

I hope you have great weather and quality training. Report back--I'd love to hear about your trip. Yeah, it should be fun, it's my birthday weekend as well and most of my family will be up there so I'm looking forward to it--though it's my 30th so I can't say I'm all that excited about this b-day My family actually has a place in Laconia, one town over from Gilford, so a number of weekends and perhaps a full week or two will be spent up there. I'm still not sure I'll be able to race--MRI on my injured knee in two days should tell me alot more--but I can at least get alot of bike miles in and the roads are certainly a LOT more open and stoplight-free than around Boston. I'll definitely post some impressions of the course after riding it. |

Extreme Veteran 475 Watertown, MA | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Simon, congrats on the first TT! Those are fun races, just cranking hard and letting the aero position do some of the work for you...it's amazing fast the flats can be when you're tucked down. Put in 80 miles to celebrate my b-day today...it just so happened it was mid-80's, and being an idiot I also went out during the exact peak of the heat--from about 12:30 to 4:45. Great ride, though, I managed 18.7 on the road bike and while I was hurting by the end it was more general saddle discomfort and some pain in my foot from a tight toe box...the legs felt good, and I had a good sodium/fluids/electrolyte plan throughout (though I'm still amazed I was able to take in a whopping 192 ounce of fluids and not have to once...amazing). Some well deserved ice cream is coming my way tonight. |

Now I'm turning 40 it's just 'count the gray hairs' time. Hope that ice cream was good. Great work on the ride, I find on the longer rides I end up feeling stronger as the ride goes on, a new experience for me. I think we'll have to round up some folks on this thread and organize 192 fluid ounces of Guinness post Timberman and see if you not have to once...etc. Now there's a challenge! Best, S |

Expert 701 Caratunk, Maine | Subject: RE: Timberman - Half Iron : Official Thread Guinness? Where? When? Brownie! Great ride! HOT though. Can't do the preview with you this time, but maybe later this summer. Simon - sweet TT! Loved the race report. Did my first 2010 open water swim on Sunday - the water was 54 degrees (well, that is what it is today, I didn't have the temp on Sunday), not bad with a wetsuit, but the hands and face were a little cold at first. |

It helps to brave the cold water when it is 80 degrees and sweltering, where did this weather come from? And given the stats you have on your current races, I would say YOU are the real deal man! Cheers, Mandy |
