can't wait till I can get through a 70.3. But for now, just signed up for a century ride.

I also have one where it's a run bike run and then two sprint tri's and a olympic tri.

My first multi-sport race is in the books - Short Course Duathlon (2mi/19mi/2mi).  It seems this event brought out the fast people.  I don't have the results yet, but I'm pretty pleased.  I pushed the bike (which for me is still really slow), so the second run was tough.  It's amazing how the finishing chute can erase the misery of the previous mile or so.

Finally got outside for a 1h 45m ride on the new wheels.  Maybe it was the new machine or an improving engine, but there were several stretches today where I just put the hammer down and was holding speeds of 20+ mph with a heart rate in between z2 and z3.  After the ride, did a 30 minute brick at a pace I was very happy with.

Almost back to full force, but with all five of my family battling the stomach bug or strep throat, it has taken alot out of me. It is hard to recover when someone else gets sick and you have to take care of them, since I was the first adult to come down with it, I was the one who had to help out the last few days. I lost 6lbs in 3 days!

Anyways, I planned on getting back out today with a nice easy slow run, ut it didn;t happen cause I suck! I layed in bed instead.

Tonight, me and my oldest are going to watch the Knicks and the Grizzlies play!  Looking forward to that!

Hang in there bro!  My house went through the same thing.  The oldest kid got a viral thing and strep, then the youngest got the viral nastiness and an ear infection.  My wife was a mess too but I somehow escaped any illness.  Must be all the exercise I'm doing!!!

I'm still here, just been quiet since my radio gig has started.  80 hour weeks have not kept me from completing my workouts, but they have kept my BT site surfing to a minimum.

Heading to Charlotte next week for the March Madness, then it will be two weeks until race day.  I'll take all the encouragement I can get guys!!

Had a great brick workout yesterday.  45 minute bike, 30 minute run.  Felt great for both.

Slow swim today - at least it felt slow.  When I looked at the same workout last month I was 1 minute slower today - not too bad.  Feeling tired out.  Not really looking forward to 1 hour high spin trainer ride this afternoon.

Thanks!  There is a branch of my gym a little south of the city (Urban Active) so I am going to try to go over there for a swim or two.  I'm hoping it's warm/dry enough to run outside and I think our hotel has a stationary bike.  Any advice on some good sports bars to watch the games?  Our games are Fri/Sun, so we'll be looking to hit up some good spots on Thur/Sat.

Where are you staying?  After that, do you mind driving to sports bars?

If you're downtown, you could check out the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.  I think it's $5 for a day pass.  M/W/F it's short course (25yds) and T/Th it's long course (50m).  It's an excellent swim facility and has a small exercise room (I've never used the exercise room).  If you go that route, be sure to check out the lane schedules because they host a lot of team practices.  Link: http://charmeck.org/mecklenburg/county/parkandrec/aquatics/pages/aquatic%20center%20information.aspx

We're staying right downtown a couple blocks from the arena at the Hilton Garden Inn.  It looks like the aquatic center is less than a block away from the hotel so I will definitely check it out.  That will save me some time, thanks a lot!!

There are a lot of spots right downtown to watch the game from what I can tell, just not sure which ones are good.  We are not opposed to driving either to find a good spot.

Dam! I lost my really long reply.  Here's the short version:

I work downtown, but don't really got out downtown.  Most people will probably hit the EpiCenter area - Wild Wings Cafe and Black Fins.

I would try Picasso's on Church - really the only true sports bar downtown, and more of a local feel.  Also, on Tryon, is a Fox & Hound.  Good TV's, but average food.

Good bars, but not necessary sports bars, downtown are Connelly's Irish Pub and Dixie's Tavern.  Mert's has great soul food - but not really extreme, just good meat + two.  Brixx is good pizza.  Plenty of the big chains (Capital Grille, Ruth's Chris, McCormick & Schmicks).  Green's is a local hot dog tradition.

If you want to head out a bit (1.5-2miles), take EAST 7th Street out of downtown to Jackalope Jack's.  My neighborhood bar with plenty of TV's, pretty good food and probably less of a crowd than downtown.  Cheap beer (some domestics in a 26oz mason jar for $4).

If you're going to run out of downtown, the MCAC has some routes in their lobby.  You could also just head towards the Dilworth neighborhood (Morehead Road and East Blvd).  It's a good neighborhood to run in.

Have fun, but you should know the Tar Heels are winning it all.

Man, thank you so much!  This will really come in handy.  A few folks told me about Jackalope Jack's, so that may be our destination on Thursday.  Can't wait to get down there, but I thought everyone knew that the Buckeye's were winning it all, although three of the guys I go with are Tarheel fans and I'll be supporting them (to an extent).

You can't go wrong with Jack's - it's certainly not fancy, but it will be fun.  There are also two bars just up the road - Philosopher's Stone & Kennedy's.  P-stone pretty much only plays Grateful Dead/Phish/Widespread.  Plenty of fun, but a different crowd.  Kennedy's is newer.  If it's warm & clear, they have a great patio that I think they were installing outdoor TV's on.  I always think Jack's is best, but this little area gives you a couple of options within walking distance if you wanted to move around.

It's a mangled mess of fandom with the OSU/UM thing.  My first love was OSU basketball.  Went to all the games as a kid.  However, my Dad was not a Woody Hayes fan, so the only other game on as a kid every week was.....UM or Notre Dame, and I refuse to like ND in anything.  I may be the only person on the planet that is an OSU bball fan and a Michigan football fan.  I agree, it is very strange, but that's how it works.

One more option downtown in the EpiCenter - Strike City.  It's a new(er) fancy bowling alley and I've been told that it has a great sports bar inside.

Why didn't you just travel a couple of hours to Indy to watch OSU play in person? They have set up bars for fans of each team to enjoy together.

This has been a very long week; the high point of which was an almost 11 mile run followed by sets of swim sprints.  I was supposed to do this workout in reverse order, but I had my foot taped by my podiatrist to test some things out with some tendonitis I been having.  Tape job did its job on the top of my foot, but I developed  litterally a 2.5" blister where a small pad was inserted on the arch of my foot.  The post run swim is something I intend to avoid in the future as my legs felt steel poles dragging me down.

After an hour ride and 30' run tomorrow, I'm off Sunday and looking forward to my recovery week and to  bumming around on Sunday and watching college b-ball.

I did the exact same thing last year, but I was doped out on percocet after having my knee scoped.  It took a lot of work to come back from something which seemed so minor at the time, but I am very pleased where I am in my training for now.
