Where do you buy your tri clothes? I have visted a few places here in Atlanta and the selection hasn't been the best. I really like trying the clothes on but was wondering if you had luck ordering. Also, ladies......do you still wear a bra even though your top has a support top? I do and wonder if others do too.

Billy, why do you think you are the only one training????

I finally have a minute to write!!

I don't wear a bra with a shelf style top.  Too much rubbing.  I rarely wear a sports bra and shirt.  The shelf shirts just work better for me.  I will def checkout Billy's suggestion as I also have not found anything too exciting at the local shops.  May just make do with what I have right now as I am doing Olys and sprints, this year but def want to look into something new next year when I conquer the HIM again.  I'm thinking Full IM 2013??  We shall see how life goes.  Like Lena, thrilled to be taking care of the body God has given me.  with exercise, a nice glass of wine here and there, good chocolate and yummy baked treats on occasion!!  I love to bake but don't turn out anything as impressive as Lena.  Just yummy simple treats.

Hubby is working out!!  Lost 20 plus pounds already.  So happy for him and he is even liking it!! He even thanked me for bugging him!!  Hoping for a 5K together this spring or early summer. Smile Hopefully a few of the kids will join us also.  Now I'm really dreaming.

Turning 50 on May 5th.  Hubby wants to get me a Garmin.  Does any on use the 910XT?  I'm not sure I really need it with my humble pace but maybe it can help me train better??

Hope you all are well and fitting training into life's busyness!!

Ann - Sherpa Debs birthday is also May 5.

I would go with Garmin or Timex (the new stuff - not from Target). I have had both. Love both. Currently use Timex.

I just klilled another HRM.  This the second garmin FR60 I've done in.
What shall I try this time?

The timex IM global trainer is a good one, very waterproof case.  But I've killed three of those.  Still one of my favorite HRM's.

Toasted a garmin or three BUT for. Flat $99 they will fix or replace. My first 310xt got smashed on its second or third ride. Garmin is good.

One Timex toasted. Replaced free but it was newer.

My heart rate monitor wasn't working properly and I emailed Garmin.  After I did everything they asked and it still wasn't working right, they replaced my monitor for free.

I am totally a Garmin fan!

I've already had my Garmin FR60 replaced once for free.  So I'm looking around for a replacement.  I'd like something water proof just incase I forget my swim watch. (Which has also been replaced once for free.)  Ha ha ha, my timex IM swimwatch and my 310xt and FR60 have all been replaced for free at least once.

Hi all

I have been AWOL but just read up on everything.  After my email from last time (and thanks to you all for your great support) I basically thru circumstances could not train at all but I am starting again tomorrow.   My mood and energy issues may also have had something to do with starting on the pill again (at 47!!!) for hot flashes.  A few weeks into it I feel a whole lot better.

I buy everything online (and exclusively when its on sale) and just send it back if I don't like it.   So far I have bought from just about anywhere I can send things back but a lot thru amazon.  Brand wise it is mostly desoto and Louis garneau.  Do not wear additional sports bras under my tri-tops.

Have great weekend everyone!

Pam

I'm also a Garmin fan. I have an Edge 705 for the bike and love it (maps, directions, display all the data you could want). I've had it for 3 1/2 years and no problems. Bought it off eBay used!

I've also had a Garmin Forerunner 50, two FR60's, and now a 910XT.  I've got speed / cadence sensors on each bike (3), the foot pod and several heart rate monitor straps. Yes, I'm a gadget freak - if only it would make me faster and thinner!

I"ve had a Polar before the Garmin watches. Polar is great for heart rate but I think Garmin has the advantage for GPS devices as well as integration with other devices, with the ANT+.

Ann - You specifically asked about the 910XT. I've only had it about 2 months. I think for an all around watch that does pretty much everything, it is the watch to get if you don't already have another device. For me, the best feature is the Swimming Mode, in particular pool lap swimming. You enter what length pool you are swimming in, and it will keep count of your lengths, number of strokes, type of stroke, efficiency, overall distance, etc. Other manufacturers have swim specific watches (Swimsense by Finis, etc.), but then you will need another device for bike and/or run.  I haven't used the open water swim mode yet, but from the reviews I've read, it does decent. The bike and run modes also work fine, but for me, the Edge is better for the bike and I still like my FR60 with the foot pod for running (the pace is not so great with GPS if you are not running fairly fast). The 910XT is also rather large. If you go to www.dcrainmaker.com, he has awesome reviews of any tri related gadgets you would ever desire.

Fit - What are you doing to those all those HRM's?  You must be a fitness machine!

Kathy - Sorry, can't help you much with the bra topic - my man boobs aren't quite large enough to need one yet. I will say, that I've had good success buying gear and clothing online. Amazon is great about returns if something doesn't fit. I do like to support my local shops, but I live and work about 45 minutes from the nearest LBS or Running Shop, so it is just more convenient to buy online. Not to mention, better prices and no wait to talk to the one guy in the shop that actually knows his stuff, plus traveling 1 1/2 hour roundtrip just to find out that they have to order what you need / want!

irishod - How's the taper going? How is the Achilles Tendon? I hope it works out for you. I know how frustrating it is to get that close and have an injury / illness.

Lena - You are my hero! I have zero willpower when it comes to food. I don't think I could have the discipline you have had with the juicing diet.

Bryan - I will send you a friend request on Facebook. I am Robert Meade (benttwice), the guy that rarely posts!

Training Update for BILLY! - Biking is progressing OK - about 3 to 5 hours a week. Swim was progressing until a month ago - can't seem to get out of bed early enough to get across town to the Aquatic Center. Been busy with work - yada, yada, yada. Still not worried about the swim - in another couple of weeks the neighborhood pool will be warm enough to get back on it. My running has been stepped back drastically, though - still having knee problems and started having mild achilles discomfort. I'm now using the elliptical in place of running, and will go back to scratch and build the run miles extremely slow. I'll drop back from the Oly to the Sprint on May 19. Another sprint on June 10, then HIM on September 30. I think (hope) there is still enough time to get ready for the HIM. Got to ramp it up soon though!

Sorry for being so slack posting - been lurking and keeping up with you guys. Congrats on everyone's finishes and progress!

Man, you people are hard on the Garmins, etc. I've had mine for several years and no problem.I buy most of my tri clothes at the local tri shop. They have a decent selection and I can usually find something on the clearance rack. The first week of IM training is going well, but it is a very light week compared to what I am use to. I'll do an hour or so on the bike tomorrow and then have a scheduled "long" run of 45 minutes on Sunday. May go for an hour.

Lena, when I broke my jaw all I could have was liquid for 6 weeks. I was sdreaming of food!!!! I give u a lot of credit for sticking to that diet. I have no desire to give up food for more than 8 hours. That only occurs when I sleepIMAZ training for me too. Very exciting

Marianne, I'm a huge foodie and trust me, the decision did not come easy, but I was getting desperate to shed the pounds, and nothing was really working. So now, I'm so happy I did it and will continue to juice as meal reaplacement here and there and will do little 3-5 day fasts to drop the last 25 i need to look good in that tri suit

Where do you buy your tri clothes? I have visted a few places here in Atlanta and the selection hasn't been the best. I really like trying the clothes on but was wondering if you had luck ordering. Also, ladies......do you still wear a bra even though your top has a support top? I do and wonder if others do too.

Ok, i have a couple places I LOVE for workout clothes... I will talk about all clothes, though, running, biking, tri, workout.. so some may or may not apply to just triathlons I LOVE Athleta (www.athleta.com), are you familiar with them? The CS is probably THE BEST I have EVER seen. Period. Return anything, ANY time, no questions asked. Exchanges are free (otherwise they charge $6, so I always exchange). Prices can be steep(ish), but semi-annual sales are really good. I now have so many athleta clothes-i run in them, bike, (no swimming yet, but getting there, thanks to the juice fast), winter coats, shoes, casual wear, i mean I'm like an Athleta catalog walking around. Generally, the quality is fantastic and stuff lasts. If I started posting pics of what I have from them, we'd kill the server. So I won't.

I am a huge fan of compression wear and have several CW-X pieces of clothing-ventilator shorts (ran 2 or 3 marathons in them), capris, tights. Not cheap, but true compression. I think i got all mine through SportsAuthority.com (who I don't care for as a store), b/c they didn't exclude CW-X from their 15-20% off coupons (and they exclude every high end brand), so you are saving like $20 a pair..
Ventilator shorts (my husband calls them Spiderman shorts):
71Nc4FbewrL._SL1500_

Insulator Tights:
71ZGVS9vVqL._SL1500_
These are fantastic for winter running!

I also adore 2XU, have their comp tri shorts (got on Ebay for cheap), also have the compression tri shorts which are awesome. They are SUPER soft and comfortable, I believe I did the HIM in them last year? can't remember, the day is a blur lol:
1709559-p-2x

And my latest acquisition, which i got for $97 (from the regular $220!!!) from Trisports.com when they had a 2xu blowout sale... aka as The-Reason-I-Juice:
71rHKw1mz7L._SL1500_
I saw this on a girl at a tri a couple of years ago and knew I had to have it! But at $220 a pop, no go... so when it came up as less than half price, well, i had to pull the trigger

I actually love all things 2XU and hope to eventually have tights and shorts, too, but they aren't cheap, so it'll take a few birthdays and Christmasses

I also have a few things from SLS3 (sls3.com): Compression socks (black, white, pink with butterflies and blue with butterflies), recovery tights (those were REALLY good to have for after the HIM). They run specials through ActiveShwaggle.com from time to time and that's how I got all their stuff (ends up being 50-60% off).

As far Girl Support.. yep. I have to wear a bra no matter what I wear.. I kind of have to laugh at support tops, because yeah, they don't do much for me I like Moving Comfort bras, and from time to time find some good fits at TJMaxx, but generally, it's hard to find things that are supportive enough...
