I found my first race!

I've had about 12 possibilities listed that I'd like to do this year (not all of them, just a few), and now that they're posting details, I think this will be my inaugural race.

It's a women's only, quarter mile swim, 7 mile bike and 2 mile run.

That's what I'm talking about...

Hi Kids!

It looks like everyone is hammering away at their goals. Awesome job to all of you that have completed their goals.

I've been awed by all of you fitting training into your busy lives. Family, jobs, sickness- you guys have persevered! I won't let you down. I still have a bike and a run today. My plan called for 1h50m bike yesterday but changed that to an hour bike 20 minute run. Today was to be a day off (according to the 16 wk olympic) but I switched so that I could help with the pig show stuff. If anyone is interested in what we did yesterday.... http://theworkmans.pbwiki.com/Pig%20Show
It's sort of a rural cultural phenomenon...Strange for a woman that grew up in the city of San Francisco...but a great thing to be able to do with your teenage kid. And pigs are such intelligent creatures! We don't eat pork anymore.

I hope today goes great Lynn!

I'll post my goals later today. I've got to recraft my plan for next week to allow for the piggie activities.

Cheers!

Les

Subject: Week Two Challenge Goals

Alright gang, week one is in the books.

Sorry, but I won't be increasing 10% in every category.  Especially with the run time going up for the half mary plan.

Run- 4hrs 35 Min

Bike- 60 Min

Swim- 500

Strength- 3 x 25 Push Ups, Crunches, Flutter Kicks.  3 times this week.

After much thought and procrastinating. I will do the challenge one more week. I had thought long and hard about the 10% increase since I met my goals for this past week. With my work rotation being such that I only work Wednesday of this week. I should be able to put in the time needed to complete this weeks challenge.

Heck, Im not shy, if I should not make this weeks goals. So here goes nothing:

Swim- 4,400 yards

Bike- 4 hours 40 mins

Run- 13 miles

If I did my math correctly, above should be my goals with the mandated 10% increase.

Curt

The race isn't until June 29, but considering I have to build up leg muscle for knee strength and recovery, that should be plenty of time to do that plus top on some specific tri training.

Thank you!

Hi all. I haven't been participating much in the thread...but I want to join on as much as I have time for. I missed the challenge...I hope I can join in the next one. Great job, y'all for sticking it out and completing your goals!

Here's where I am at:

Total Newbie with tri's... Never been in any race of any kind!!!

I am a big fan of TI swimming. I am a natural in the water and got my stroke count down to 18-16 strokes per 25 yards, in the past. (I don't flip turn). The speed takes care of itself, I find. I got over-enthusiastic 3 weeks ago with paddles and got a rotator cuff tendonitis. I am done with paddles forever. I haven't been able to get back in the pool yet...still in pain, though better. My advice: AVOID PADDLES!

I've never been good with running. Always hurt myself. Now I am training for my first 5K on Feb 10th. I run on dirt, but today went out for my first run on asphalt. I run walk for about 40 min and am out for a total of an hour - walk for warm up and cool down.

Can't seem to get it up of cycling right now. I am kinda addicted to running and skiing.
My problem is I have a hard time NOT exercising. I am always on the edge of overdoing it. HELP!!! Any tips on how to control my exercise urges would be appreciated!

I am completed my goals for the week. Trying to figure out if I came up short as two of my runs were 10 min. shorter than planned... other than that... I did it.

This week's goals:

Run 3 x's for 40 min. (some intermittent walking)
Swim 1 x 1,500 meters
Bike 2 X 30 min.
strength training 60 min. total for week (pef. 2 sessions)

My heartfelt thanks to all of you for your support... it really has made a difference. BTW... just signed up for the zoo 5K and entered the girls in the 1K.

One more thing... I downloaded the 12 week BT training plan. I would like to make some changes... how do I edit or change my planned training? Is it possible to change it around to reflect my weekly goals? Can't seem to figure it out since it is a pre-fab plan.

Thanks,
Elizabeth

I'm done!

And congratulations to everyone else for completing their goals, too.  No matter how much the negative self-talk can creep in on us, there is no denying that we are further along than we were one week ago.  Congratulations again!  You guys rock!

Has anyone noticed - just today - a difference in viewing their Training Log?  Like, on the first page, it doesn't show any sports activities.  You have to click on the date to view that now.  At first I thought I had accidentally deleted some data, but it seems to be a change on BT's part.

Is this just me?

Done- and is was not pretty-

The run made me nearly hack my lungs up. The Cedar pollen is at 6500-which is a killer for me. I walked part of it. The last was a struggle to breathe. Not good. Treadmill for me when the pollen is like this.
I did exactly my Tri OK challenge bike, 30 on the trainer- like a leisurely bike in the park- not the hour from my 16 week BT plan. I never would have done that if it hadn't been for you guys!

Goals for next week:
Swim 2x- 30 minutes
Bike 2x- 1h30
run 2x- 30m

Core set around the world-
3x

Great job everyone! Here are my goals for next week, increased since I met my goals this week!

Run 3x, 3 miles total
Bike 3x, 6 miles total
Swim 3x, 1 hour total
Strength 2x, 30 minute total, and 50 crunches daily
Yoga 1x , 1 class (not sure how long)

Looking forward to another great week!

And I am registering tomorrow for my first race! Two actually, a 5K and a 15K the next day, at Disney in May. A bunch of family and I are going to do the 5K and then I'll do the 15K alone. So excited! Still waiting for the Danskin at Disney to open so I can sign up for that too. I hope I can do it, it's the weekend right after the 5K/15K.

Run = 9.9 miles

Swim = 6600 yards

Bike = 33 miles

Yoga = 1.1 hours

Les... I suffered before moving to AZ with allergies. A good combo with hydration before working out is plain ole sudafed and tylenol. If you feel congested tonight... take robitussan expectorant with just guaifensin. That should help.

I forgot who has the rotator cuff issue... if it isn't better soon write me and I can help you with some exercises. My specialty is neuro but i had my share of ortho.

Sorry I've been a bit quiet on this thread too, it's hard to keep up with all of you!  (My word, 18 pages already?!)

I got in a nice 30 minute swim this morning and an hour-long bike ride yesterday.  So tonight I just need to do 22 minutes on the bike trainer, and a 12 minute run to meet my pledge for the week.

(That's excluding the 2nd yoga session, which I may or may not get in tonight... but it seems like this challenge is for swim, bike, and run, so I think I'm safe. )
