fowlmood - 2010-12-29 8:24 PM I would rather run in the wind than ride. Just keep moving forward. have you tried a hat or ear muffs?

thanks bryce,

I agree with you there, it is windy here during the spring and summer on my bike rides and it can be hard to stay upright sometimes!  I haven't ever run with a toque or beanie cap but maybe will try that...it just doesn't get that cold here normally.  But running in 30mph winds yesterday brought the temps with windchill into the high 30's and that just wasn't right to be wearing a running cap!  I did have on arm warmers and gloves and that seemed enough on top.  Shorts were a bit cold, i might have to dig out my 3/4 capris.

re: your tire question, I have the Continental 4000's and they have been great.  I even use them on my trainer and am still using my original set from over a year ago...3000+ miles!

I use ear plugs.

Holy cow, I'm gone for 1.5 weeks and you guys are blowing up the forums!

Quick recap then?

I haven't been at my laptop at all 'til now because I LOVE being on break from law school and avoid my laptop like the plague if I have no reason to be on it.  It's refreshing!

I got a Garmin 310 for Christmas from Ryan!  Yay!  Bummed though because the first time I used it, it wasn't doing something right, so it told me I'd run 6000 miles in an hour.  We fixed it, and I'm leaving for my run soon to finally get it right.

Got to play in an indoor soccer tournament this week, and I got the biggest compliment I've ever received from a former teammate.  She said "Erica, you're not even tired!  You're in better shape than all of us, and you're killing it out there!"  Made me feel AWESOME because I was never in better shape than her when we were playing competitive soccer together. She also thought I was crazy when I told her I'd already run almost 8 miles that day...  My team took 2nd place, though!  Unfortunately, after college, I was forbidden to play goalie ever again, so I wasn't playing goalie, but wherever on the field for the 4 games.

My New Year's Resolutions are to (1) keep on a normal workout routine, and (2) get under 150 pounds!  I'm in the high 150s right now, and according to the BMI charts, my height should be, max, 149.  Now, I don't believe this too much because I haven't been at that weight at my healthiest, but if I can get there for a little while, it would give me the chance to see if I can even maintain it.  If not, I'm okay with the low 150s.

Lastly, I can't believe it's almost 2011.  I've come SO FAR this year.  If you guys check my logs for back in April when I started this craziness, I couldn't run 1.5-2 miles without wanting to die.  The idea that I'm up to 8 miles without much problem is unbelievable to me.  The fact that I'm toying with the idea of doing a marathon is uncanny.  Of course, I also hate the fact that I weighed in at 180 this year before I decided I had to do something about it.  Never again!

Hope everyone is well!  I will try to catch up on the forum to see if I've missed anything now!

fowlmood - 2010-12-29 10:43 PM I am in need of new tires what is everyone's preference for speed, Longevity, Durability, and puncture resistance.

right now I am using mondos the ones that came with my bike when I bought it, I have over 1,800 miles on the tires and have never had a flat.

I am interested on different tires people have used and there pros and cons with the brands

Conti Gatorskins...they are bullet proof.

What about a Buff?  I use them all the time, summer all the way to freezing and they look good.  You wouldn't cach me in shorts in the 30s. I'd be in full tights and light gloves at that point.

It's supposed to rain here today and tomorrow so the roads should clear up.  Might mean I can actually run outside again. Big YEAH!

Good news and bad news!

The good news is that I have dropped about 7 pounds in the last 2 days.

The bad news is that Salmonella is not the best way to drop weight.  That junk don't play.  A buddy of mine invited me over to his house a couple nights ago to finish up some oysters that his family had brought up from the gulf.  They were AWESOME, and we prob ate 4 dozen each.  He got sick the next day, and I guess I just got it.

This week was going to be a high volume week for me, but I guess now most of my runs will be ...in the bathroom

Anyone have the group picture from dinner?  I can't seem to find it.

And for the record, there is only one person in this relationship who has taken a leak on the other's gear!

I believe it's called marking your territory.

John nice job taking in all the scenery..

If Sam had been wearing a lower cut shirt, he woudl have changed his focus for sure!  Just so everyone realizes, Trevor is doing this partial kneel so he fits in....doesn't he know it'll take more than that to have a Canadian fit in ?  And yes, I realize there are many more in the group than before and I might get dunked at our next meet up!

Yay for running outside!  Will it still be sub 20F?  geesh.  I have lots of buff headbands that I use on the trainer.  I guess I've never thought to use them outdoors because of the whole bandana look...weird to worry about that, right?  But that might be just enough to keep the air out of the ears and serve to keep my hair in place.  I have a black one that I may try.  thanks!

It seems like there are many people in the group who either run in more minimal shoes or are contemplating it.....a friend passed along a heel to toe drop comparison of many running shoes.  If interested PM me with your email and I will send it to you.   I found it pretty enlightening, some of the shoes that call themselves minimal are really doing it because of weight vs. change in foot strike.

Warmed up, got all geared up, and the system kept malfunctioning.
Was reading incorrectly. So all for not.

Wow!  Prolific group we have here!

Just back from skiing.....in a blizzard.  Skied in Tahoe M-T-W - snowed so much, so windy and cold we called it a day early Weds at Alpine.  After watching searchers comb the mountain looking for a snowboarder who'd gone out of bounds and was missing in the storm, it was hard to let the kids out of sight.  They found her body this morning, so sad.

On a lighter note, I cam home with a nasty cold.  Sounds so wimpy, yet I feel so cr*ppy.  No swim today.....tomorrow's bike isn't looking too likely, either.

Gonna try to catch up with 15 pages tonight!

Left work early today feeling a head cold coming on.  Remembered my buddy saying one of the best ways to get over it is to exercise so I hit the gym got a nice run and swim in.  Felt better for a while now feeling all stuffed up again.

Thanks, Kim! I've been traveling with my family, so I haven't been on my computer much. It looks like we might be snowed in for an extra day or two here in Steamboat Springs, CO. I'm just crying my little eyes out about it!
