Expert 663 A little slice of paradise | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Rooney - 2012-07-27 2:19 PM Got a question for you veterans...I was just skimming through the last few pages and it looks like some of you are putting in a lot of training hours (up to 56 hours on the bike in June). I ride about 4-5 hours per week, run 2-3 and swim 2.5 hours/week. This will be my first 140.6 and I've completed two 70.3 races, all in 2012. Having said that, am I screwed for this race? Longest ride this year has been one 70 miler on a group ride and I've done two 56 mile rides on two HIM races. I've been trying to get out to do longer rides, but I live in Chicago and I don't have a car at the moment so it's been hard getting away from the city to do my long rides. I would not say you are "Screwed" as you said, but I would get out there and log at least one Century ride so you know how that feels and what your nutrition is like. 70 miles vs 112 miles is a big difference. I generally do one long ride a week 5 hours = 100 miles in addition to riding 3-4 shorter rides a week. |

That's not to say everyone is out, just the ones I approached. I thought Machinery Row had some as well for those in Madison. |

Extreme Veteran 451 Algonquin, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I did 50+ hours on the bike in May and June because I was not running too well. In July I got my running legs back and my biking lagged because of that. This is about par for the course with training for me. My past two ironmans I did 5:40 on the bike..which is about 20 mph/hour. Probably too fast because I paid the price when running. I finished both in around 12 hours. You are not screwed, if your goal is to finish. |

Veteran 327 Madison, | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Warning: this is a relatively pointless question and has nothing to do with IMWI except that it pertains to the detour options for hwy 92. When I use mapmyride.com to map out the Verona loop each detour adds some additional elevation but no hills that can be classiifed as a 5 or above. However, when I map each route from Messershmidt to Witte the two options add 2 and 3 class 5 climbs respectively. Any idea why this happens? |

Expert 1360 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread So, one more month to go! IMWI is 40 days away! how did everyone's July go? I am feeling okay about the race, not great. I have been battling a few different things this month, but I seem to have the upper hand for now, so that is good. Missed two scheduled workouts in July - one short brick workout due to extreme heat and humidity and one swim workout due to swimmers ear, which I have just come down with this week. Swimming is my strength, so missing a couple of swims this week (one maybe two) shouldn't affect my race too much. Might just mean a 1:10 instead of the 1:05 that I was starting to hope for. Running - not going so great. my other issues this month were (in order of occurance): 1) blood infection in my foot from rubbing the skin off the top of my foot not wearing socks in a triathlon 2) torn calf muscle that forced me to switch my half IM to a half swim/bike and essentially made me take the better part of three weeks off. 3) first long run back started to get a niggle in my foot - have previously had PF in both feet, so I've been baby-ing my foot for the last week. coach bumped down my mileage between long runs fairly significantly but bumped up my bike mileage.

Walinda I haven't heard of this I will check it out and let you know. Iam slightly freaking out...had a melt down on my ride yesterday Iam hoping it was lack of fuel and dehydration so I only completed 50 miles of a 75 mile ride |

Veteran 327 Madison, | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I panic on a daily basis. I never intended this to be a race against anyone but myself. Unfortunately this summer has been filled with injury and illness. All that has done is make me want to do this more. However, I have had to drastically change my personal goals for the race.

Expert 1121 Menomonee Falls, WI | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread I've been beating myself up pretty good in July by following a plan that I consider having fairly high volume requirements for a beginner plan. This is my first IM and I want to make sure I did all I could do to finish because I don't want to use the plan or lack of plan execution as an excuse on race day. We'll see how that works out for me, but even with having what I feel was a solid July, I still panic like everyone else. My month looked like this... Bike: 37h 02m 40s - 605.02 Mi As far as a taper, my peak volume day is Aug 18th (with weeks of Aug 6th & 13th being the Twin Towers of volume). All subsequent weeks after 8/19 fall off tremendously in volume. |

Expert 1566 | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Nice work everyone! I had a much better July than June and only missed few workouts. I did get to ride two loops of the course last weekend which has changed my race plan of a goal time to just FINISH for my first IM. Over all have stayed pretty healthy minus a heel blister which has pretty much healed up. I am using the IronFit program which has my taper starting August 20.

Pro 9391 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread Hey guys, I haven't posted in here in a while. My July kind of blew up in my face due to non Tri related issues. I was really trying to focus on my training, but I run a small business and had 2 people (out of 6) quit within two weeks so work took away a lot of my time and focus. I considered dropping out of the race, but I know I can finish it. I really wanted to shoot for a sub 12 hour time, but there's no way I can do that with my training load so I'm going to stay on plan this month and go for an easy pace 13 or 14 hour time and try to enjoy myself. Who knows, I may even save my legs enough on the bike that I'll put up a good run time. I tend to always kill myself on the bike in every race I do. lol

I put in a full 112 mile bike yesterday. Unfortunately it was an extremely hot & humid day here and I suffered what I think was heat stroke (fever, chills, horrible headache) for the rest of the evening... ugh. As for taper... this will be my fourth Ironman, and I have found that a 2-week taper is about right for me. I'll begin to dial things down after about August 21/22. I'm getting excited now! #508!! |

We both turn 39 this year I just counted up the participants list and it's showing 2715 participants. Holy smokes, I think the biggest swim start I've ever been a part of was 120 people. |

Looks like I have a pretty high # with 2154, so I suspect I am on one of the far ends (NE or SW)? Where the bikes are racked is a pretty long stretch. As you enter this area, you're at the highest bib number, and it descends so that pro's bikes are just before the mount line. Everyone runs the same distance, but the higher your number is, the longer you'll have to run with your bike. Numbers are given out by gender, then age, then alphabetically. In the past, men had the lower numbers. |
