Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() msmogreen - 2010-10-26 7:48 PM I am embarrassed to come on here and post. I need to apologize...I joined this challenge with every intention of blowing away the competition. Then after doing the Breast Cancer Awareness bike ride on Oct. 9 I started feeling like I was coming down with something...sore throat, weakness and all that. I couldn't find the strength to workout and I didn't want to push myself and really get sick. So...while I wasn't on my death bed, I didn't feel up to doing all the workouts I had planned and my numbers are very low. But...I'm back in the saddle and feeling good. I ran and got in a swim yesterday, ran today and will have no problem reaching my swim goal. I'm feeling really motivated (had a little help with that) and plan to do some running every day for the rest of the month. The problem with that is the best I can do is 80% on the run. Or is there allowance for altering one's goals due to illness? Welcome back! Its good to see you again and to know that you're doing better. Adjustments can be made for illness but I'm not the person to ask about that. Just jump in there and do your best and we'll see how things work out. The most important aspects of the challenges is to help us be motivated and to build friendships. If you want to adjust your goals, Yanti can help or you can post a question asking about it on the Ghoulies thread. There are some challenge experts there that can help you with it. |

Do any of you have an amazing cure for smelly bike shoes? Mine get worn everyday and they do not smell great right now. I have tried washing the insoles and also febreezing the heck out of them...still smell terrible! Any ideas? (apart from get a new pair....they are on the "when I have the money to do so" list) I have a problem with shoes that I wear every day getting stinky too. The only solution I've found is sprinkling foot powder in my shoes after taking them off (they don't get stinky as fast but can still get stinky) and (best solution) getting a second pair of shoes so I'm not wearing any pair two days in a row. |

If you want to adjust your goals, Yanti can help or you can post a question asking about it on the Ghoulies thread. There are some challenge experts there that can help you with it. Not knowing whether Yanti has power over there... you might want to just ask the Ghoulies how they want you to handle it. I think it's generally you determine the number of "sick days" you had in the month, and then you calculate a proportion of "healthy days in the month" to apply to your overall goal. I think that works better for distance based goals. Or I have seen it in other challenges, where if your goals are by # of days or sessions, you may be able to reduce the Sick day sessions from the goal. I would see what makes most sense based on your specific goals and just run it by the Ghoulies. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() mbasta - 2010-10-27 6:31 AM It has to be the computer... I hope not. That's not a good sign. If it does turn out to be a computer issue and you are at all mechanically inclined, you can take a side panel off the computer and blow out the dust with compressed air. Make sure you blow out anything with vent holes like the power supply. Sometime the insides of a computer can get caked with dust and blowing it out will help cool it down a lot. |

I made a goal of 80 miles, which I haven't done before. It's now looking like I may be getting close to 100! ![]() Wow, I wish I could do that many miles in a month. I just don't have the time. If I could get faster, then I could increase my mileage. I am seeing some improvements so maybe some day. Edited by pdbman 2010-10-27 12:47 PM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() sorry I've been away. not much posting, even less training. I have a sentencing hearing on Friday on a kid (20) who was being pulled over for a license plate being out, decided to run (because he is 20, has an open beer, and is drunk) In less then 10 seconds he ended up putting his car IN a house, on an elderly couple's bed. Killed him, seriously wounded her. The driver barely had a scratch. Please don't drink and drive. There is actually a youtube video out there of the car being pulled out of the house. Some people's version of what is appropriate never ceases to amaze me. |

That is my biggest struggle. It's one sport I haven't been able to find the motivation for. I don't mind swimming, but I hate having to drive to the gym to get in the pool. It actually takes up the most time because I have to drive out, wait for a lane, swim, shower, drive home. ![]() Swimming seems to be my weakness at the moment. I can't seem to get the motivation for all sports at once. Its seems to be either running or swimming or biking but never all at the same time. |

Or at least easy enough to not detract from my races. |

Best thing is to just not drink and drive so you don't have to worry about it in the first place. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Went for a seven mile run last night. I was a beautiful night. It was snowing and I dug out my winter gear so I didn't freeze. It wasn't very peaceful though. Tons of traffic. I usually run a little later when there isn't as much traffic and it makes for a more enjoyable run but it was still good. |
