Would you carry anything for a bike TT lasting about 35 minutes? I'm leaning toward putting a small amount of just water in my bottle, but I really doubt I'll take anything. Weather will be very cool, low 50s, so no chance of over heating.

Warren I don't think you'd need it but if it were me I'd probably take one bottle of something either water or some sports drink. I know I wouldn't need it but I'd feel better having it with me.

Jeff will be able to provide the best fitting advice IMO but here are my suggestions:

  1. It appears you could take the seat up slightly, maybe a 1/8 inch to start and then see from there.  It looks like your heels drop slightly more than needed.  Do you notice any hip rocking during your rides?  My guess is there is a slight rock.
  2. Also move your seat forward to get your arm closer to a 90 degree angle.  Do your shoulders fatigue during your long rides?  If so if could be an indicator that you are stretched out to far.  An "ideal" shoulder angle is more determined by having your elbows directly under your shoulders.

Once you have decided if you want to make these changes you'll need to spend a little rime making sure it is actually comfortable for you.  It will take some time to figure this out unless you can tell right away that you are really uncomfortable.  Since you're going into IM comfort id the key!!!

Make sure to mark everything prior to moving/adjusting the bike.  If you don't like it you'll be able to go right back to your current position.

Tony....way to put in another long run on the treadmill all that mind training will definetly help you when it comes to your races!

Will..... Sorry I cant help you on your fit, I end up going to the bike shop to have them do it cuz Iam clueless.

I woke up this morning all ready to do my last long ride/ run and try my new bike fit and it is raining It is looking like it will clear by late morning so I guess it is time to clean and go grocery shop

So as it turns out my kids won't be coming to my race, needless to say I am disappointed in one way and relieved in another. I would love their support but with that comes some added pressure to do more than what I am prepared to do and I need this one to do it all for myself and know that I will be ok. ( not sure if this makes sense to you guys) and my husband doesn't get it he tell me how many people dont even try, but to me, a DNF even though I was sick is a DNF. Ok enough of my blah blah blah....

Good luck again to everyone racing today!!

Tony I don't know anyone who can run on the treadmill as long as you can! I'm curious why your legs feel like they take a beating on it. Mine feel fine when I run on the treadmill but I only go for about 30 min - not 2 hours!

JoAnne good luck with the new building and hooray for improved fitness and good luck with your new fit!

JoAnne x2 on the DNF, I think all of us here totally understand that. Not to worry you are going to kill it at Syracuse next weekend. You're in great shape and have been training hard. Just go out there and have fun and not worry about all this stuff. You are going to do well and you're going to finish.

I wasn't sure if I was going to Syracuse solo or not but it sounds like my wife is coming along and we will have to bring the dog with us. I don't think the kids could handle her for two days lol. JoAnne are you driving from Madison? and how long does that drive take? I'm asking because I will probably drive to Madison and it is looking like a 15 or 16 hour drive. Just trying to get an idea about that.

Dina I think Brenda has done longer runs on the treadmill than I have. I'm pretty sure she has me beat when training for her marathon over the winter. And yes the longer I run the more I feel like I'm running harder hence I feel like I'm taking a pounding there. Then again it could just be the cumulative effect of all the training volume.

It's hard to update via the phone, but I'll try. I met up with Jonathan and his wife today at Eastman. It was great to see them again. Jonathan absolutely crushed it, placing 2nd in the AG. Kate got third in hers I think, so an amazing day for their household.

I biked the relay with my boys and it was a great father's day gift to have them do it. Neither really does any training other than these races, so it's amazing they show up and give such solid efforts. We won the three person relay, no thanks to the old man on the bike! Have a great father's day, all you dads.

That's awesome that your wife is able to make it I am looking forward to meeting both of you! We are also bringing the dog but will leave him in Binghamton for the race he would go crazy with all the people.
We actually live in Racine its about 2 hrs from Madison Iam pretty sure it usually takes us about 12-13 hrs depending on stops to get to Binghamton, I will track the time for sure and let you know. But Iam thinking you will go thru PA not NY?

So on my run today some a-hole was backing out of his driveway and didn't even look my way, I stop and when he finally noticed me I said maybe you should look both ways next time...his response was, yeah probably not, at that point I couldnt help myself and I flipped him off and dropped the old F You a-hole...I wish in that moment I wouldn't of stooped to his level but.......then again

Well I made it through 3 days with a 10 month old. Wow. God bless every stay at home parent.

Got my heat time for tomorrow. It's the final heat at 10:40. Smaller field then 2 weeks ago but 4-5 of the top 10 from that race are at this one. Hopefully I'm able to keep up, the course looks a little easier as its 100% flat out and back 3 loop course for the bike and dead flat 5k run. Weather should be nice, not to hot which should be good. Hoping for a similar bike time as last time, but hoping to take some time off everywhere else. Ill update tomorrow. My parents are meeting us at the race and my mom is coming back with us to watch the little one for the week. With the help I should have time to catch up on everyone's posts.

Cheers!

I did an impromptu almost 10K today.  It's super hilly.  I wasn't sure how my foot would respond so I took it easy.  I had to slow down on the downhill portions so I didn't put too much pressure on that foot.  Anyway, I managed to hang onto an 8:27 min/mi average pace!  I'll take it!  I'm pleased! Smile

Warren.....When I do a short time trial, I don't take anything.  I take my seat bag off and I take my water bottle holder off.  You won't have time to reach for the water bottle.  You'll be fine without water going super hard for 35 minutes in the conditions you describe.

Warren congrats to you and the boys for winning the relay that is awesome and that would be a great Father's day gift IMO. Also congrats to Jonathan and Kate for having great races as well. That is especially amazing considering Jonathan has been having problems with his vision and he has not been able to train as much as I'm sure he normally would. You guys never cease to amaze me and you all set the bar very high for everyone here in the group.

Wow, Junkies represented today at the races and with some good training. Good job Jonathan, Kate, Warren and the boys! Also sounds like some good training today by others.

I did an hour on the bike and an easy 400 yard swim to cool down after the bike ride. I'm just about to load my stuff up in the family van and head south for tomorrow's race.

Have a great rest of the weekend everyone!

JoAnne sorry to hear about the guy you ran into on your ride. I can totally understand your fustration and yeah it is easy to lose your cool sometimes and regret it later. I know that's happened to me as well I wouldn't sweat it and yes I am going through PA to get to WI. I forgot you are in Racine but would appreciate it the details on the drive. I'm thinking I may stay over in Ohio on the way there I'll have to see.

Tracy great run today and you're even throwing the hills back in there. Glad to hear you ran at a decent pace and are not having any issues with your foot.

Derrick good luck with your race tomorrow, be safe, have fun and make the Junkies proud.

To all the Dad's out there I hope you all have a Happy Father's Day and hope your families take care of you guys tomorrow.

For me I a very solid bike run brick in today, 25 miles on the bike and a 7 mile run. Tomorrow I am hooking up with a big group of triathletes and am doing an OWS and then tagging along with my friends to hit the hills on the north shore. Just hoping to keep up with them. We got a really nice thing going on Sunday morning with a bunch of local triathletes, an organized swim, bike and run. At least one day a week it'll be nice to have some company while training and hopefully we can continue to grow the group.

It looks like the racing weekend is off to a good start with Jonathon (and Kate) and Warren taking it to the bank!  Being able to get on the podium for Jonathon seems like it would have been a great feeling knowing the lack of training he's been able to get in.  I'd like to hear his RR to get the details.

Warren, having the boys do the relay is a huge treat, especially on Father's Day weekend.  Someday I hope to be able to share some of those type of moments with my girls but I won't ask them, I'd rather it be their idea.

Tomorrow is another big day with Darek and Vero racing.  I feel confident that you two will represent us well.  Leave everything on the course and don't look back!

It sounds as if a few others have had a big day of training too.  I don't care how bad it is outside, I would not run 13 miles on the treadmill, EVER.  9 miles was my cap a few years ago and that will remain my cap.  I can stand 4-5 miles but that's it!

Joanne, I usually don't get irritated with drivers backing out of their driveway's because we runner's, walker's, etc are pretty small targets to be able to see.  The door posts on cars can easily hide a person and most people are looking for larger objects.  The people in cars passing me with no room for me to move are the one's that generate my wrath.  The guy responding the way he did would have gotten under my skin though.  He was likely kind of shocked that you were there and then his self defense kicked in when you said something.  He should have never responded in that way and should have simply apologized for not seeing you and pulled away.

__________

My week of recovery worked out very well.  I didn't do any training at all on Monday (by choice) to get caught up on some things I had been letting go for to long.  Tuesday was the only day available for me to swim in the evening but it worked out well and I got a pretty solid 3400 yards in.  Wednesday was a short 25 mile ride.  But Wednesday night brought a storm that had been forecasted to be another Derecho like last years' event.  It turned out to be almost a joke.  I had one pole broken in my area but had to replace the poles in Ohio yesterday making for a long day (15 hours).
Today was a great ride, however.  I rode 70 miles in 3:26 and threw more hill work into the plan.  I got 2450 feet of climbing in over the ride and then threw some threshold work for the last 12 miles or so.  I couldn't let the whole week go by with everything being easy.  Now my legs feel trashed again and I am starting another cycle of hardcore work.  But most of the work will be on the bike (160-170 miles planned).  I'll only add a mile or two to my running and my swims will stay the same as they are almost all of the time.

I hope all the Dad's are enjoying their Father's day and I hope the Junkies who were racing killed it today.

Good day today I got a OWS in early this morning. Did the out and back mile at the lake and we had a nice turnout today, 14 of us went out and did the swim. That was awesome. I again had trouble getting into a rythym on the way out but I got better the further out I got. The way back was much, much better for me. I'm not sure why I can't get settled in right away but it's probably because it's only my second OWS of the season. I'm sure the more I can get out there the better it will be for me.

I followed that up with a bike ride with 3 of the guys I normally ride with whenever I can. We headed for the hills on the north shore of LI and went to Port Jefferson for the dreaded Oakwood repeats, only did one today though. My goal was to keep up with these guys as they can hammer and I am not in the same league. I did very well I think and had to push hard to keep up. Good thing was I did not make them wait much and have to have them circle back. It was a 59 mile ride but some nice elevation 2661 ft. I was totally toast when we got back to Wildwod lake. I will say the 11-28 cassette is AWESOME! It is very reassuring to have that big 28 gear spinning up those hills when you think you might not be able to make it up there.

For me just getting to go swim and bike was the best gift I could have gotten today.

Hope everyone had a great Father's Day. Spent mine with my dad and my daughter. Oh and I raced too, .

Great work Jonathan and Warren, can't wait for the race reports. As for mine, I did better in the swim, better on the bike and better on the run, only thing that went wrong was I kept forgetting to hit lap on my 910xt.. Came in at 1:11:08! That's a little faster than I had hoped. Bike was really windy but being flat helped. Felt great on the run and came in at a 23:00 for the run that showed 5.1k on my watch. Over all the field was tough. Only about five of the guys that were ahead of me in the last race were there, but some new faster ones showed up. Finished 9/65 overall and 4/6 in AG. Winners were crazy fast and have raced on the national level. Winner came in at just over 1:01. Ill be sure to do up a race report, and ill post a few pics as well.

Enjoy the rest of the day Dads!

Oh man, what an awesome weekend. It was so great to see Warren and the boys on Saturday. Warren's youngest almost chased me down on the run. He was bookin' it...seriously! I ended up 2nd AG, but pretty much had a repeat performance of last year. I lost very small amounts of time in every discipline and ended up less than a minute slower. I really planned on pushing the run hard, but my feet were numb for the first mile or so. I really could not push off. Weirdest experience ever. There's not much I can say about it, but I'll try to get a race report up as soon as possible.

I will say, however, that Warren beat my bike split. I'm humbled to say the least!!!!

A huge Happy Father's Day to all of you dad's out there. I'm so lucky to have two of my own and now a new Father-in-law. I'll see if I can get some pics posted up. For all of you that are friends with me on FB, my dad posted a few. I actually don't think that Warren and I got a picture together. Next time!

Happy Father’s Day everyone!

Dirk, I really like that song by Sanctus Real. Very appropriate for Father's day. I've been a fan of theirs for several years.

I had a fantastic race this morning. It was a smaller mini sprint (400 yard – 8 mile – 2 mile) event, but it gave me the opportunity to go all out. I finished 25th out of 132 and 6th of 24 in my age group (the largest group). They award 5 deep in the 10 year age groups and I missed top 5 by 40 seconds. I had no idea I would be that close, but there wasn’t much more I could have done. I pretty much left everything out there. I am going to do the same course on September 8th and now I have a time to beat.

After the race I sat in the shade while my girls swam in the lake and my wife went for a run. Then we got to take my dad and step-mom out for a father's day lunch before we hit the road for the almost 200 mile drive home. My dad lives about 12 miles from the race venue so it was a great opportunity to see him on Father's day.

I’ll get a race report up in the next day or so.
