Did a 5k route planning walk to make sure I have the exact 5k route ready for the event I started "Shamrock Shuffle 5k" in our home town to raise money for our trails and our YMCA as we partnered together for the event.

We are also doing a one mile Leprechaun Lap for people who are wanting something shorter to walk.

Now to get out of work before 12 hours today and get the lines painted in the parking lot for the start/stop and every corner.  Need to attempt to do this in the light, so I don't get hit by a car while marking in the streets for the turns.

Today and tomorrow I am going to a walking dead convention so I will not get my work outs in but I am bringing my own healthy lunch today and I will get dinner when I get home. Tomorrow I am not sure exactly what I will do to make sure I do not eat bad for you food that is way way over priced. Good news I should still get in a lot of walking just will not get my heart rate up.

I did a test ride for our Thurs evening ride last night. I generally ride where there are wide shoulders just to make me feel better, but this route has NO shoulders. It'll be better with a group tho.

Amy and I hit the pool this morning. We both managed 8x50 and 1x100. I still need to read that article diablo posted, but since my distance is 440yd for May, should I start trying to put longer distances together, Or swim more (I hope that makes sense)

Sounds like fun. I am on the planning committee for the 5k for Ryan's Quest so I know how much work goes into planning and running one. Stay safe out there painting lines

Stay safe out there on those roads without shoulders, definitely not my favorite places to ride. While opinion might differ, I personally think that you should start building volume. So, now that you are doing 100 nonstop, see if next time you can do 125 or 150. A good way to do this is to do pyramids. First lap is 50, second is 100, then 150, then 100, then 50 again. Rest in between to catch your breath but don't try to go out so fast that you are gasping for air when you finish each distance. Recovery in between should be about 1 minute. Then once you can do 150 easily, then add a 200 into the middle. So your pyramid would be 50, 100, 150, 200, 150, 100, 50. Even if you have to use a recovery stroke like side stroke or breast stroke, as long as you keep moving without stopping. You will be very surprised how quickly you will be able to do longer and longer distances.

Keep up the great work! You CAN do this!!!

Me personally, the last two days have been absent of any workout. I am seriously sore from TRX on Wednesday that it hurts just to stand up. I am hoping to get out for a run tomorrow morning if the weather warms up like they say. Mike and I are taking a stretch and flexibility class at the TRX studio tomorrow and so looking forward to it.

Forgot to add that I am now at my lowest weight in more than 3 years! It is definitely slow progress but it is progress all the same. Seeing non-scale victories every day since I am now down 3 pants sizes since November 2012!

Have a great weekend everyone!

To everyone racing tomorrow: HAVE FUN and GOOD LUCK! Looking forward to any race reports.

    Wow, Diablo - great swim!

Clarkey - I was getting bad cramps too! I cut back a bit on my workouts (I was doing too much, too quickly) and I haven't had an issue lately.

I skipped a couple workouts this week and had to double up tonight (usually I take Fridays off). 4 mile run, then 1500 yrd swim. TIRED and my legs feel like lead. I have to do 10 miles tomorrow (training for Eugene marathon) and hope I feel better in the morning. I have been consistent now for two whole weeks!

    Have a good weekend everyone!

    Race recap

    O'Niantic 5k
Weather at time of race: 43 feels like 39, wind 6mph S
    Overall time: 31:19
    Splits: 1 - 9:32:9, 2 - 10:09.5, 3 - 10:09.4, 4 - 1:25.9
    Results: Overall - 720 of 1390, Men - 394 of 546, Clyde - 42 of 74

Overall great day first mile was chilly but warmed up nice by end of the day. My running partner had a migrain this am so she bailed out and I was stuck running it alone. Had several friends come up and walk the course so it was nice to start with a group but spent 99% solo or well with strangers at least. Am very happy with my results and couldn't be happier with being right at the 10 min mile for the whole race. Looking forward to the nest one, hope anyone else that had a race today did well!

Inspiration of the day - (hope I didn't do this one yet) The battles that count aren’t the ones for gold medals. The struggles within yourself–the invisible battles inside all of us–that’s where it’s at. –Jesse Owens

Diablo - great job in the 5k! Well done, sir!

Today was a mix of workouts... Randi and I did a stretch and flexibility class at the TRX studio. That felt good, well sometimes painful, but good. Ten we went for a short bike ride. We had to take something to a friend so we got out on the bikes. Only rode 3 miles but it was really windy so we kept it short. Then I got in a 40 min run. Did 3.8 miles. I tried to keep it slow and easy and avg 10:35. 2 weeks to my 13.1.

I leave on a business trip tomorrow so workout will be tough, but I'm going to try to get in as many as I can. I'm also going to make a concerted effort to eat well while I'm traveling.

Donna - Thanks for the advice, I have been getting a lot of it and mostly it is the same - you are training too hard too quickly.
Im not sure how much I can Lsow down.
That an hydrate and eat bananas! - I too love chips.....

    Today 1:15 Swim.
    1X50
    1X100
repeated that a bunch - little breaks in between and a couple longer breaks to get advice from another swimmer that was really helpful.

    Tomorrow

    Enjoy!

Overall had a good week. Down 2lb and made all my workouts but 2. I never got out for longer bike training. I've got to leave early today, so I'm going to try to get this morning's ride that was rained out in this afternoon along with my run. Sounds like a good time to try my first brick!

No brick for me . I got home early yesterday and the temp just dropped. I did manage my scheduled 1K run in 6:25. I pushed it pretty hard for me in 30mph winds and coooold rain, lol. Actually I think that's why it went so fast because it was just miserable.

Also hit the Y this morning before work. I swam 550yds in about 23 minutes. I believe the pattern was: 50,100,50,100,50,50,100,50. I need to get to the pool with my mentor and have him check out my form (or lack thereof).

I'm going to run into a rough patch with swimming soon. The Y is closing the pool down for work to be done. I have access to the other locations, but they're all pretty far. I'll try to stick with at least once a week during that time.

Diablo: Finally read the 0-1 mile.. Sounds good. Plan on implementing that.

Yeah especially this time a year with high school and Y seasons winding down and running into championship and regional meets! I've been bumped from a few workouts in the last cpl weeks due to just that!

Missing my wonderful husband and live-in training buddy but did make it to the Y this morning after the boys left for school despite the snow and got in a 2000yd continuous swim which felt good, did try to focus on form and picking up the pace a bit. Not sure how successful that was. It was nice having a lane all to myself for the entire time although I don't mind sharing with Mike, I do hate sharing with strangers. I think the snow did keep some of the leisure swimmers at home this morning. Then, once I dried off did a 1.7mile on the treadmill. I am at a 1:00/1:00 ratio for walk/run and feeling pretty good especially since i have not run in a couple of weeks.

Bike workout for tomorrow and hope to get it done before work which should not be too difficult as I don't start until 10.

I’m a C-L-Y-D-E-S-D-A-L-E! Many people in the sport know the division is there, but many of them think that it's a 'fat boys division.' So what constitutes a Clydesdale? Why even have this class?
