LISA -

The "loosey-goosey" was in reference to nerves, potential apprehension -- that sort of thing. I KNOW you are prepared and ready!

Does loving Louisville mean that you are now bugging Ryan about moving thre, too? First it's Lake Placid, now it's Louisville. If you do enough of these destination races, poor old Ryan won't know whether he's comin' or goin'!

You remember well! Yes, the phantom injuries have nibbled at me before, and I hope that's all that is happening now. I don't really think they are phantom, but I do believe that the fear of them is heightened by an upcoming race of some importance.

But no more about me! Right about now you are at a table for 23, probably contributing to a general rowdiness that many romantic couples weren't counting on when they booked a table there this evening. TFB for them, i guess!

Okay, Louisville Lisa, that's it from here. What's up tomorrow, to help you pass the hours until Sunday earlyearlyearly? Oh, yeah -- your mom is arriving! Cool beans!

Sleep well!!!!!!!

hows the water temp...will you need a hoodie, maybe double up?  maybe no?  don't forget to find out where you chaff to prevent that on race day morning.  Imagine yourself swimming that final 400 yds and focusing on whats next in transition...rehearse that exactly so no surprises.  Will you run to your bike in your shoes, or is it a long run to your bike and maybe run with just socks and put on the shoes when you get to the bike?  How about the run. special needs.  What are you putting in there.  Imagine, imagine, imagine.  In a couple more days you will be an ironman.  But first...focus on the details now.

its gonna be fun.

NEIL -

See how much I trust you? Normally I would shy away from an offer of "click here....try this....nothing to use", and normally I don't aggravate myslf by doing youtube things on our dial-up system, but I followd you on both and am glad of it! I will be in Burlington, VT, this weekend and I'll try to get to a GNC for the Arnica Relief. Thank you!

As for Lisa, she will need no hoodie and no doubling-up (you're talking about swimming, right?), as the swim is a definite non-wetsuit one. She can correct this if she sees it, but last year it was 82 in the water, in the turgid Ohio. It's an IM for competent swimmers, or confident swimmers, or swimmers who care not a lick about their swim time.

I meant to tell you --- nicely done on pulling the trigger on CA70.3. Within a day of your mulling there was the warning that spots were going fast, and the day after you told us you were in, it was announced that the race was full. Whew!

I had given some thought to IM Couer d'Alene a few weeks ago when it was at 90%.....and it filled a few days ago. Oh, well. The way the past few days have gone, I again have doubts that my body can withstand the kind of IM training to which I would want to subject it. Back to the drawing board?

thanks for all the advice, neil!  i appreciate it.  today is going to be a big race prep day.

we went to transition on wed, but for the most part, they were still putting it together.

today i will head down there with my race plan, sit, mediate and finalize the plan.

i'm part of an 11:30am focus group that meets for 50 minutes.  the topic is using testing (vdot, ftp, etc) to aid in training.  most importantly, you get a $50 gift certificate to use at the ironman store.  ryan has an afternoon session, so between the two of us we get $100.  i figured that was worth 50 min of our time.  it's not like we have a ton of other stuff going on right now.

funny you should ask about the water temp.  this race is known for never being wetsuit legal.  I scoffed in the face of something (not sure what), and decided i wasn't even going to pack my wetsuit.....so, while there is no official report, i'm really hoping their not legal

a friend did lend me her swim skin.  they are legal for another few weeks.  phew.

there is only one gaterade swim.  that is on saturday.  i'm looking forward to that.  ...kind of.  i'm really a little grossed out about the water.  i've heard rumors of people getting hepatitis shots before heading down here.  not sure.  i brough my nose plugs.  i will definitely be using them for at least the practice swim.  i don't want to get river funk.  blech.

so, i'm seeing more and more that loo is the wicked step sister of the IM series.  at placid, newton had 2010 placid specific t-shirts that were pretty cool.  i had planned on getting another pair of shoes here even though i don't need them yet to get the loo shirt.  nope.    no loo t-shirt.  boo.  there are also no ART people, and, while they have massage, it is not free.  humph.  oh, and we also don't have mike reilly.  he's at IM Canada, which is the same day.  no love.  no love at all.  it's a good thing i don't give a crap who announces me as an Ironman, so long as someone does it

BUT....we do have a bar with 150 different types of bourbon directly at our finish line   ...and you can get an official IM loo Louisville slugger bat engraved with your name, race date and finish time.  that is pretty cool....oh, and hep B    HA!

i just called my mom and she is already almost half way here.  she's so excited.  it's cute.  i'm excited.  it will be great to have her a part of this.

Thinking of you this weekend Jess and Steve!!!!  Good luck in Vermont!!!!!!

someone on the BT thread for loo said that last year at every mile marker on the run they focused their thought on a different person in their life who supported them in their IM journey.  I loved this idea and plan to use it.  You all definitely have mile markers reserved for you.

LISA -

Nice report, it sounds as if you've settled in and hunkered down and have your focus about to be focused.

I remember that from last year's talk, about Hep B shots. were I there, I would take my chances. I guess if there was a booth at the expo dispensing them I'd go for it, but otherwise I would just figure that.....well.....I'd be fine. And maybe that's why there's only one G-ade swim --- which maybe I'd do, maybe not.

There is a thread on Slowtwitch started by a guy who wondered if he should bring his wetsuit just in case, and the answer was unanimously no. Last year the race was preceded by many days of cool, and one poster thought on race day it was 83 (having been 76 a few days before). But this year there has been no such coolness, so you should be nice and balmy in the water.

Much of the color of the water is probably just silt, silt, and more silt, and even mega-silt is neither toxic nor gross. just silt. As for the flotsam and jetsam, likely just random vegetation. Other than bopping into a sizeable log, none of it should pose any threat. heck. Sloths eat bark and branches and stuff, right?

If it makes you feel any better, one of the things I will be sending you is a Newton tech shirt. It's way too small for me....and I hope it still isn't too large for you. But it's a shame there aren't any LOO-specific Newton shirts! They've had a different design for each of the past few years at IMLP, and I don't know why they have nothing for LOO. Harumph.

I would like Mile 13, please. It's any unloved number to be sure, but I was born on a 13th and mostly, I guess, it has served me well. Next up would be 17, and then 23. But I will be with you in spirit for ALL of those miles!

Great run course, I feel, hope you love it. Short of shade, maybe, but you know all about that with Eagleman. And short of hills, too -- just like Eagleman! The tour into town at the end of thre first loop ought to get you pumped for the grand finish at 4th Street Live!, which in itself ought to be worth the price of admission. LOO may well be considered the wicked stepsister of the M-dots, but I can't imagine any other in North America has even close to the electrifying finish of LOO. Screw Mike Reilly, and groove on the energy from the crowds! (And, in all seriousness, maybe he doesn't go there becasue it's a tough venue for him to project at.)

Wonderful idea about the Louisville Slugger. Long before I knew anything at all about Louisville per se, i knew about Louisville Slugger because at the time, mid-50s, they were the only baseball bat. Period. Now I guess Easton makes bats and probably other companies have jumped in, but back then it was Louisville Slugger.....or a stout branch form a tree in the back yard.

Is the Galt house treating you to a lifestyle to which you could become accustomed? Chocolates on the pillows? A plush terrycloth bathrobe hanging behind the bathroom door? Chilled champagne at the snap of your fingers? And speaking of which, take it easy on the bourbon at the finish line; a more standard recoevry drink might be a better idea!

Carry on, then!

JESS!!!

Haven't heard form you in a few days! All okay (other than the separation blues from thr judge.)?

We're in for five at five at Mister Ups tomorrow. You will be there, yes?

I am hoping to get to packet pick-up early and then maybe ride the run course. But I'm nursing about three separate real or perceived aches/higgles/wonk, and have shut down the bike and run since Wednesday and Tuesday, respectively.

I will have Lynn's cell phone with me, which is 613-612-1867.

Steve! Steve!! Steve!!!

I am alive and well Been a crazy busy week.

I am IN for Mister Ups tomorrow! Mark and I will be there. I am hoping to leave NJ around 8, so we'll get to VT around 2ish. Tour the race site, packet pickup, then meet for dinner.

I am feeling totally unprepared for the race - the last two weeks have been so busy and I've had minimal time to train. I've felt burnt out too. BUT, I did get out for a run last night with a friend (at a local reservation) and that felt great Please tell me I have enough base from the summer!

Anyway, more details tonight.

Either way, my cell phone is (908) 246-4123. I'll call when I get close to see where you're at!!!

Yay!

Holy crap!

MINDY!

Yo!

I've been thinking about you, because I suspect you might know something about Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach -- NE tip of Florida, north of Jacksonville. Is it gorgeous there? Tacky? Sprawlsprawlsprawl? Is the coast of Georgia, between there and Savannah, worth exploring?

Anything you can tell me will be greatly appreciated!

As for representing myself well this weekend.....I have no idea. The week has been riddled with minor aggravations, both to various parts of my body and also varios parts of my car, and my training has been, um, "spotty". I am sprt of in one of my extended tapers, where only a discerning eye could differenytiate between "taper" and "comatose". Okay, it's not QUITE that bad, but i sure wish the week had been more focused and with a greater degree of direction.

So we shall see what we shall see, come Sunday!

Don't forget your insights into Amelia and Fernandina.....pretty please?

JESS!

Yay! You're there! And will soon be THERE, with that one being Vermont. Yay! Five, at Mister Ups!

I'm thinking the key to HVJ for us might be some combination of base, charm, and good looks. I am woefully lacking in the last two, okay for the first. For you, it has sounded like you have worked pretty hard this summer, so you should be covered for all three -- and definitely far better off than am I in the charm and good looks departments!

Are you thinking about nutrition and hydration? It looks to be a warm one there, and my big hope (and partial memory) is that the run course is fairly well shaded. That would be most welcome!

I'm cooling a bit on B2B, mostly because the days are cooling and I worry about summoning the fortitude to get out there in he fianl three weeks before the race and do the requisite mileage. The run will be fine in that respect, but the bike? And open water swims? Brrrrrrr! But more on all that later. (And you have petty much scrapped thoughts of B2B for this year, yes?)

LISA again -

Ha! I was just searching back through our group history here, looking for wahtever Nathan said about Pinehurst. this year it's on Oct 17, so I started around there, working backwards. I finally found what he wrote about it, which was very little (other than tough course and his heart wasn't in it), BUT......along about page 221 or 222 were the photos you posted from YOUR VERY FIRST CENTURY RIDE!!!!! there wdre you with the ponies, and you with Ryan on a dock/pier......and that was YOUR VERY FIRST CENTURY RIDE!!! NOw, by the time Sunday is over and done with, how many centuries will there be behind you? 8-10 or thereabouts? And from such humble beginnings, along about last Oct 3rd or 4th or so!

Onwards!

Steve -

Base, Charm and good lucks! Luckily, we have those in spades Ha!

Nutrition and hydration - I've switched over to Heed and Hammer Gel since the beginning of August - I used 2 frozen bottles of Heed on my century (plus stuff gathered from rest stops). Really liking it. I have the raspberry hammer gels, which I describe as having the same taste as the insides of a jelly donut I'll be relying on those for the race!

It was an incredibly emotional day. Tears all around the courthouse. In the end though, I'm at peace (can't think of how else to put it!) with how this year went. The judge and secretary gave me really sweet gifts that I will treasure for a long time. I don't start my new job until Sept. 14th - so I'll take the next two weeks and recover (emotionally, physically, etc).

Anyway, to bed with me. Such a long week, I am exhausted. Up early to pack up the car and head to Vermont!! I will hopefully be to the race site by 2-3. Will keep in touch and call you, Steve, when I'm close.

*LISA* I am SOSOOOOOOOOO excited for you! I love all the pictures you keep posting on facebook, I feel like we're there with you. My mind will be with all day Sunday. BEST of luck to you AND Ryan. You'll rock it!

JESS -

Given the week you've had, I'm glad it's Mark with you so if you need a rrest from driving, there he is. Take it slow and easy, eh?

It's funny how it works -- raspberry H.G. is the flavor I like least. But you're one f he lucky ones, because of all the H.G. that have been in pick-up bags at races i've done, 75% of them are raspberry. Lost of me, but loved by others, i guess.

I have returned to HEED, at least for now, at least for the rest of this season. If I do B2B that's what's there, and that, aside from the fact it's worked well for me over the years, is enough to keep me with it. I bought two containers of EFS two weeks ago and WILL give that a better try than I have already, but I'm not confident I can like the taste enough to count on it being palatable when I need it, which would be longer races.

I hope to leave here within 40 minutes, drop off Luna, and probably take the ferry to South Hero. From there it's about 30 minutes to Burlington, and I will hit B&N. Then if I don't linger there too long I will drop into Shelburne Museum where there are a few exhibits that intrigue me. I would like to be at Vermont Sun by 2 as I told Anne that is what I am aiming for, but I won't make myself nuts aiming for it.

I will spend some time reconning the course in one way or another, and if the buoys are out I will do a loop of the swim. I doubt they're there, however. So if you see my kiwi green Ford Focus wagon cruising around the course, wave me down!

BUT, at the very least, i'll see you at Mister Ups at 5. I am very excited about that!!

At this time tomorrow you will be in a line snaking along the Great Lawn, waiting to take the plunge. Is that just way cool, or what?!?!?

In an effort to avoid empty platitudes, i am not going to say much more. I have done all I can with those balkish air masses, and I have cached some of my best vintage mojo for you at miles 13, 17, and 23. Hopefuly you won't need anything more than your own strength and desire and determination, but it's there, anyhow.

My, you ready and prepared person you --- unless my Red Roof Inn has a computer, this is it until tomorrow evening when I return home. Have a most incredible day (maybe even more incredible than the wedding day!) and be strong and safe out there. Please give my best thoughts to Ryan too, and enjoy seeing each other out on the run course ---- and especially at 4th Street Live!, when it's all a sweetly done deal!

They probably havnt seen each other all day, but just might at one of the run turnarounds.  Can Lisa pull it off...can she pass Ryan for the family victory?  Maybe they will even run together...no, I predict its a footrace.
