Any suggestions? This is something like what I am currently using, though I don't have it in front of me. I think it only has 1 countdown timer on it so that's sort of drawback. I also think I actually activate the FLICK feature sometimes without knowing it because laps magically appear while I'm swimming. I guess I'll have to read the manual someday. http://www.amazon.com/Timex-Ironman-30-Lap-Resistant-T5F851/dp/B00093DSCK If this is just for training and since I'm spending your money, just go big and ugly with the Forerunner 305. You can pre-program intervals into it, track how far you've gone very easily and then head back hime to your computer where you review charts showing your heart rate skyrocket up and down at each interval like mine does! ![]() I completely "x2" on Sulcus' opinion. I have both, the Timex Ironman and the Forerunner 305. And love them both. The Forerunner is a COMPLETE training partner. I can't even begin to tell you how much this thing does. You can use as much or as little of its features as you want, but the biggest one is the ability to run without having to worry about how long your course is because of the built-in GPS. I think you can get one on Amazon for around $165 now (it retails for around $300, if you're foolish and don't shop around). The Timex might be all you need if you are only concerned with your time. However, I'm going to strongly recommend a HR monitor of some kind if you don't already have one. The training benefits you will see multiply exponentially when you start paying attention to your heart rate. The Forerunner really is not appropriate for wearing when you're not exercising, so if you want a watch that will serve as both, your exercise watch and a daily-wear watch, you might want to look for something smaller. Polar is now marketing their watches through Walmart and have some really affordable HR watches. You can't go with the cheapest one that's like $35 if you want the countdown or lap features, but I'm pretty sure the next step up will offer both of those and it's still around $50. Good luck! Master 1690![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Metro NY Area | Subject: RE: Super Cats Mentor Group - CLOSEDIf you just want a watch that does HR get a Polar, if you want it to do way more such as GPS tracking get the Garmin 305 but the drawback of the 305 is that you would never wear it as an everyday watch. There is even the new waterproof 310 XT but it is even bigger. But the Polar's are a nice size and variety of price points starting from $35 at Walmart on up to several hundred. I was looking at some Polar models today at a big sports store, they had dozens of models and it was quite confusing, I decided I need to do more homework on it. Edited by losta 2009-05-12 6:15 PM |

Our auditors have been on site since last October and still have not completed their work, which means that I need to be there for about 12-14 hours a day to answer questions, provide supporting documents, and review financial statements. Good news is there is apparently an end in site and I should be back and more involved by the end of the month. Until then, I will probably be quietly logging in my blog section, keeping up with the May swim challenge, and getting caught up with our mentor group thread and checking in workouts over the weekends. |
