ltcsh1 - 2011-01-17 3:55 PM I may not join this "fight" because the Pack bounced my Birds, but I will be working this routine into my off day workout.  Thanks Tim.

tmoran80 - 2011-01-17 3:39 PM How about a core workout for 7 days straight.  I suggest that Around The World routine.  While it would suck everyone could benefit from that.

OK - does that fact that I am a lions fan matter at all? I think I should get to sit this one out based on the fact that all of you should feel sorry for me LOL.

But - If I have to - PACKERS Smile

I can't speak for everyone, but I feel sorry for you for having to deal with Matt Millen in the front office for all that time.

Finally going to get some serious training in.  Heading to the pool tonight whenever the wife gets off work.  Starting my training plan for my oly in June today.  Ready to get back in a routine of working out again.  The flu sucks but at least it hit early before I was in the middle of serious training.

tmoran80 - 2011-01-17 11:01 AM Deb - I believe your body has enough carbohydrates avaialble to last about 1 hour.  After that you need get something in your system.  There are some good calculators that can give you an idea of what you need - check out htis one:

http://tri-talk.com/TriTalkNC/TriTalkNC.htm

If you have a hard time keeping solids down while you workout then definitely look into a good sports drink.  I use Gatorade Endurance, mostly because it is the most common found at races.  It can take some getting used to but 8oz. is about 50 calories.  If i were you I would find out what type of drink is offered at the race you are doing and then practice with it.
and
As far as race morning nutrition everyone is differnt has their own techniques.  Just try different combinations out until you find something that works.  I do the same thing every race - I set my alarm about 3-4 hours before race and I eat a bagel, apple, orange and sip 16 oz. Gatorade endurance.  Then I usually drink about 8 oz. Gatorade Endurance 15-20 minutes before the race.  But like I said everyone has different approaches.  Just make sure you do something because you will turn that 2:20 race into 3:00 if you eat or drink nothing.

I think I was more concerned because I usually eat nothing at all before a workout. No breakfast / bagels / coffee (tea) etc. I wasn't sure what the normal recommendation for replacing calories on a HM was. Nutrition isn't exactly my strong point but obviously I want to try and run a little faster than usual in a race so need something??

I guess over the next couple of long runs I will try a few different things and figure it out for myself Undecided

Fantastic - this was the kind of guide I was looking for. Thank you Smile

50 min run on the treadmill, 30 min free weights, weight machine, yoga and stretching.  Swim in the morning (speed drills) and then 90-min bike workout after work.

Nutrition is critical.  Hammer's website has lots of good info.  Generally, if you want to lose weight, drink water on 2 hours or less.  More than that you need to replenish...150 to 200 to 250 cals is all your body will absorb per hour. Giving it more will only upset your tummy.  How you give it to yourself is a matter of personal choice and what works.  I quit trying too many solids other than a banana or so on a ride last year.  Mostly I drink gels in water or Hammer Perpetulum for longer workouts or even a sport drink.  I usually drink the sports drinks for electrolytes and get the cals from other things because sugary sports drinks don't cut it for the long haul.  I also take Endurolytes.  Pills...but this year I am going to try to put the power right in the bottles so I don't have to carry something else.

I was swimming tonight with one of my training partners and he was droooling over a new bike, so it got me thinking what does everyone ride? Or want to ride?

Scott I tried a new solid on the bike last year and it set very well, called "bonk buster" great taste and tons of energy.

I have a used Felt F80 which is my first road bike ever.  Bought it three years ago and haven't put any serious miles on it at all.  In fact, one could say I put hardly any on.

I have some aerobars for it now and a Seras saddle.  I also put a Strada Cat-Eye cyclometer on it too.

What do I want to ride?  No idea.  Let me get some more races under my belt and pay for my nuptials!

I have a fuji cross comp that I ride. It's great because I never know what kind of roads I'm going to end up on. Even if it is not super speedy.

I have a Giant OCR2 road bike.  There is a Kestrel tri-bike at the LBS that is screaming my name but I don't think it's going to happen with school on the horizon but a boy can dream.

I'll check out bonk buster.  I love the name!

I have an Orbea Ordu TT bike with SRAM Rival and Red, ISM Adamo seat and Zipp return to center shifters.  Bought the pristine frame used, new components, built up.  Saved half.  I call it Ice T squared.   I have a Red compact crank in the box waiting to see if I should put it on for Wisconsin.

First road bike after losing some weight was a Giant TCRc1 with Ultegra.  Great fast bike.  Stiff carbon frame.  It is The Iceman's Icycle.  I've since put a compact crank on it to experiment.

And then Ice T, a titanium LeMond came available used, pristine, bought the frame new parts and a friend had a bike building seminar for the tri club with about 35 people and we built it up in 2 hours.  Very cool.  I turned that into a newspaper story for my section on using eBay to cut costs for your hobby.  Again, got away for less than half what the new bike would have cost.  It's my daily bike because titanium is bomb-proof.  53/39 crank.

Think about it - you buy a new bike, ride it out the door and it's used.  If you keep your eyes open you can find great used bikes that are like new for far less money.  For example, I am selling one of my wife's road bikes for $700.  Trek Pilot 2.1, pristine, great bike but she stepped up to a carbon Trek Pilot and doesn't want the other.  She has about $1700 in it.  The buyer is getting a steal.  Put out the word...people are selling bikes all the time.  One caution...make sure you go to a LBS and get a fit to be certain what size you need.  Get fitted on a road bike and a time trial bike.  They require different sizes for the same person.  The tt bike is usually once size smaller than your road bike.

I love bikes.

I need help!!

Trying to find a leg workout that is easy on the knees.  They don't hurt when I run, bike or go up and down stairs.  But they hurt like hell when I do squats and lunges.  So any ideas?

Don't have a bike yet.  Getting one in the spring.  Can't wait.

At what point in the exercise do they start hurting? are you going too deep in the squat?  Do you have access to extension/hamstring machines?

Scott  How do you like the RTC shifting? I have looked into it but not sure if I would like not having an idea of what gear I'm in.

Has anyone ever used the areo break control? I have looked into that also and thing that would be very help-full on a fast downhill with some turns.

some leg press machines are easier on knees.  i like to use a hack squat machine because you can position your legs to take pressure off knees or back depending on what hurts.

Love RTC.  You have a sense of what gear you are in, for sure.  You just KNOW over time.  And the safety feature of not having your hand bent back is great.  Also more comfortable.

I have an older Trek 1000 road bike that I have been slowly updating/converting into a tri bike.  I am currently in the process of replacing my crank set and chain.  i just scour Ebay until I find what I am looking for a at a good price.  I will post pics when conpleted  I have been looking at the Cervelo P2 but like Caleb I also don't really see that happening in the near future.  This is just enough to get me by.

Hi Team.

I hope everyone is having a great day! I just bought a NORCO CRD 1 late last fall. I really like it. It is the first legit bike I have ever owned. I was thinking tri specific at first but decided on a road bike and have the aero bars on it. If I survive and stay with this sport I am sure I will upgrade in a couple of years. I have not put a lot of KMS on it yet but I am looking forward to riding it this spring.

Here is a picture of my two favorite vehicles, my VW Golf (what else would a golf pro drive) and the bike it carries around for me. LOL

KC

I have an older Quintana Roo Kilo that I bought from a friend who was upgrading to a new Felt. It's pretty old and has a fair few miles on it, but it fits! I had bought a used Tequilo on CL but had to resell it due to fit. I'm happy with what I have..........Love the Cervelo's though :-)
