Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED Sorry, Scott! I am not experienced enough to offer feedback on your pictures. 2600m swim this morning. Swim band is beginning to feel natural! I was a bit slower this week than last week though. I feel as if I'm getting the hang of it. It's nice to see consistent, hard work pay off. Strength training later today. |

And might I add, you got some nice guns on you! So I went for my 2nd day at a new masters class at my gym. I am really liking it. The coach is very nice. She spends a lot of time walking the deck along side me, which just makes me nervous. I guess since I'm the "new" kid I get more attention. Today at the end she says to me "too bad you didn't swim as a kid, you would have been fast!" She didn't say it in a mean way at all, but I had to chuckle inside because I could interpret it as "you suck". I however interpreted it as I have good basic skills/form, that just needs to be refined. Heh! |

When do you switch from water to electrolytes, when do you really need to use recovery stuff? |

It's not Retul. Not really sure what it is. It's motion capture and highly interactive though. Basically I'd say 75% of the elites I know pointed me in his direction and the others that didn't ride Gurus and pointed me to the guy who does custom Gurus in town. All in all I was much more pleased with the throughness of this fit as opposed to the Retul I got on the other bike. I guess the proof will be in the pudding. |

50 minute over/under workout today. Could keep my HR in Z2 at 7.1 mph on the treadmill. Moving in the right direction people. Now if I can just find a display set up on my 305 that makes the HR read out large enough for me to see or maybe I need to look at getting contacts again. Ugh. |

I wondered why you had the visor on The HR display on the 305 can not be made larger. It's a negative about that model. I have the 305 and the new 910. The 910 has a HR display that is much larger, but you can't display it on the same screen as your distance and pace, which I find to be a complete pain in the arse. Can't we have it all ?!! I just switch the screen to the HR display and ignore pace and distance as I am adjusting to HR training. I seem to be crawling along (more like a walk than a run) anyway. |

Is there a general rule time wise when you should be using electrolytes during a workout or recovery stuff after. When do you switch from water to electrolytes, when do you really need to use recovery stuff? I'm sure everyone has their own thoughts on this. I do water only for 60 minutes or less. 60-90 minutes and I add a Nuun tablet to my water bottle. 90+ minutes and I do 1 bottle of sports drink and 1 bottle of water with 1 Nuun tablet (really only for bikes that long; for a run I'll just do water and gels). I don't do anything for recovery, other than eat a huge breakfast or snack. I used to drink a smoothie or something like that, but I stopped doing it. Don't really feel like it made a difference, and I get plenty of quality nutrients in my meals. |

Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED I tend to go by feel on the electrolyte thing. Really depends on the temp I'm training at. I'll generally have a bottle of diluted sports drink and a bottle of one concentrated with a Nuun tablet if I'm on the fence. That way I have options. Recovery wise I have friends that swear by Ultragen. I don't necessarily see the need unless your running at IM type volume. I always eat post workout. I make sure it has a good amount of carbs w/ some being simple carbs and some protein. |

Extreme Veteran 826 Bristow | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED Scott, This may sound weird but thanks for the motivational pick! Gotta work on my guns a little more haha! Great swim workout today 1600 total and did my first set of 100s and 200s this week! Starting to feel better in the water. Did and interesting breathing exercise this week as well. Basically it breaks down that you extend the amount of strokes you take between breaths we did 3/5/7/5/3. I didn't get to seven so I did 3/5/3. Supposedly it helps with the aerobic side? Any body else done this before and do you see the benefits or is this more for non-tri swimmers?
Hope everyone has a great day! |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED So after my nice early morning swim, I got t-boned by an old lady on my way to work. I'm so mad because I was sitting at a red light, it turned green, I proceeded to enter the intersection to make a left, and there is a car that clearly didn't stop at the light coming right towards me. Turned out to be an older lady, who clearly should not be out on the roads behind a wheel. She told the officer "I don't really know what happened, she came out so fast, I had a green". WTH?!?!?!?! I was at a dead stop, starting to move into an intersection, how did I come out so fast??? I wanted to strangle her. I of course stated my side, but unfortunately no body stopped to be a witness. ARRRRR!!!! The officer told me he believed me, but he had to take our statements and would not be issuing any citations because we both said we had green. My poor car... |

Hope everyone has a great day! I almost always do that breathing routine as my cool-down. I was taught that oh so long ago in lifeguard training when I was 18. The one technique that stayed with me! Basically staying very calm in the water, learning how to contorl your breathing and it is interesting the better you get at it the further you can extend each stroke, so you don't feel like you're struggling when you get to the 7 stroke per breath. |

Dang that sucks! As for your swim earlier, I read the comment as the coach was saying you would have been a fast kid. Seemed like a compliment to me |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED I had over/unders this morning as well. They went well, but I felt whipped after (kind of all week) and my knees hurt ... Not sure if it is my shoes (only 200 miles on them) or the fact that I am on an indoor track. The bottoms of my feet have been really sore lately too!I did manage to twist my ankle again yesterday when I was out with my mom. Doesn't hurt, but I know any subtle change can affect the body. |

Expert 913 Lost in the Evergreens | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2012 Part 2 - CLOSED New mainset in the pool today - Does this kind of swim set have a name. Feels like a broken mile. It's amazing how much your form recovers with just 5 deep breaths. Felt myself getting stronger the farther I swam. Good focus. Good rotation, early catch and long powerful strokes. Passed through the squad twice. Number two wasn't paying attention when I escaped off the front. Ha ha ha escape the asylum. Nice to be really well rested before a hard workout. I'm probably going to have to move over a lane but I like my squad mates, not so much the squad 1 lane over. Not ready to jump over two lanes. But that is a goal. |
