Veteran 820 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: tapering, race getting close Now that we are getting closer I thought I'd ask if anyone is staying in Scottsdale that would be willing to give me a ride race morning. Dino was nice enough to last year, so hopefully I'll find someone to do the same this year. I'm staying at the Hospitality Suite Resort on Scottsdale Rd and Mc Kellips about 2.5 miles from T1. Don't want to leave the wife and kids without transportation to come watch me and my back up plan would be to ride my fixie down and lock it up somewhere. |

Extreme Veteran 648 Scottsdale | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I HIGHLY recommend this event to all IM AZers. I have attended the last couple years, and it is just a great time to hang out with your fellow athletes and relax before the big weekend. The raffle is absolutely AWESOME, so bring some cash for the NOM foundation and get into as many of the buckets as you want. We are fortunate to be in a sport where the pros are willing (and humble enough) to hang out with all of us AGers. They always answers questions and give little bits of advice to whoever seeks it - and with 10-12 of them at the event, you will be able to get any questions answered. Last, since this is at Tribe's showroom, you also can pick up any last minute nutrition or other race needs. Extreme Veteran 611 Casa Grande, Az. | Subject: RE: tapering, race getting close Originally posted by cstoulil Sure! Running late race morning=no good! I usually select 4:30am and they are usually 5min early. They even called me once 15min early and told me no hurry but they were out front if I was interested in leaving earlyOriginally posted by todds Originally posted by cstoulil I'm always in the same boat with the transportation thing when I do races at TTL. 2 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Really bad luck on my end.... I was all excited to start tapering, and then my put together body sprung a leak Started feeling pain in my butt on hard, fast runs (which I had been doing way too much of in the past 3 weeks). Got progressively worse with speed. I can bike but after having piriformis syndrome in the past, I'm sure this is that rearing its ugly head. So sad. Was depending on my run to pull me through for a good race since I'm a stellar runner. Now I will just be happy to finish without feeling demoralized and walking the whole thing. Not sure what to do other than the usual. Stretching, foam rolling. Started PT at Endurance Rehab but it seems like at best, I will have to do symptom management until I can give it more attention. No running til a cpl days before ironman to see how it responds. Maddening, I have sacrificed 9 months of my whole life for this and 2 weeks before I can't catch a break. |

Believe me when I say I feel you. I also feel robbed. Three weeks ago my knee decided to give up on me by locking its self on every run. Since then I haven't been running at all. My sports doc has me on a week to week basis, but he feels ill be able to run by race day. I just hate the fact that I cant/couldnt train to the best of my ability. This is my first and I need to remember that so Ill be stoked just to finish. Rest up and I hope you're 100% by then. |

New user 3 Kansas City, MO | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread More Newbie Questions! So, I know that people are getting lots of flats during training, but are flats really that common during the actual race? I obviously am prepping to be prepared for anything, but how many tubes should I actually bring? I've never flatted before on the road, but have practiced changing multiple times. ALSO, the athlete guide says that no bike pumps can go in the gear bags and that I should hand it off to a friend/family member. However, I won't actually have any spectators.. do you think it will be easy to bum a bike pump on the morning of? |

207 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread run through the previous posts... flats on race day are not common. we ride on the road and not on the shoulder. There is tons of crap on the shoulder but the roads are clear, not to say there will not be flats but it wont be the same as the training rides. there will be people with pumps... and usually some local company like Landis will have guys with pumps there in the morning |

128 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Can't believe that this race is less than 2 weeks away! Anyway, for veterans of IM how does your spectating family/ friends spend their day. My wife and son are definitely going to be there at the start and probably through the swim and at the finish but I think the mid race excitement, especially for my 10 y.o son is limited by his attention span. My wife will have the rental car so I was thinking of sending them out to the zoo or something like that during the day. I know there is garage parking in downtown Tempe but is leaving and coming back a PITA? Thanks for any advice. |

Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Glad to see so many RSVPs! Looking forward to meeting everybody before the race- and for those flying in and wondering about traveling with CO2s, etc. We'll be having a last minute sale next week- don't worry about paying ridiculous amounts at the expo for necessities. We'll have a good supply and we'll be doing a 15% off sale (*some exclusions apply, see store for details- new bikes, wheelsets, etc.) the week leading up to the race. It's supposed to be a Twitter/ FB sale, so please like us on FB or follow us on Twitter (we'd love to follow any and all IMAZ athletes too!) and we'll see you next week!

Now, I know I cannot control the weather, but gusts to 30 mph? Phooey. Reminds me of Beach2Battleship 2011 - wind, rain and even a little sleet as the temps plummeted. I'm going to put my head down and keep pedaling. Edited by exnavydoc 2013-11-04 1:47 PM |

Someone told me with winds like that it would be better to not run a disc because you'd probably get blown around with one on. |

Member 75 Platte City | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread Yes, the more wind, the more benefit a disc gives you! Getting blown around is driven far more by the depth of your front wheel, your weight, bike fit, etc. If its going to be that high, very small, inexperienced riders might be better off running a training wheel up front versus a 808 (or run a 404 instead of the 808). A disc has been shown to actually help keep you more stable (not to mention at high winds it will act like a sail and help push you along!) Side note: A couple other sites shows beautiful weather still for that day, way too far off to come close to accurate forecasts. |

Regular 233 Clermont, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread I'm not much of an expert, but for a cross wind like that I might even question the choice I made of 60mm front 90 mm rear. That is, of course, if I hadn't already turned the bike over for TriBikeTransport. Also, as noted, the forecast will change multiple times before the big day. Edited by exnavydoc 2013-11-04 2:19 PM |

207 | Subject: RE: Ironman Arizona : Official Thread noooo your wheels are fine. DISK or cover will be the wheel of choice. Like it was posted above the front wheel is the sail in the wind but for the gusts i have to bother with the deep wheels are going to give so much more |
