Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, I did it. I ran my first marathon yesterday. It was quite an emotional experience. Seems like there is so much hype leading up to it, then you run all day, then just like that...it's over. Done. Luckily I have the day off today. Very nauseous and a little dizzy, so glad I don't have to work today. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() KSH - 2010-03-07 8:11 PM Well I signed up for my first tri this year... it is happening 4-25-10. So I decided to finally swim again today. Speed is still there, endurance it not. It's only a 300 meter swim though, so I am not stressing about it. Hope everyone is doing well... although is seems like few people are checking our little thread anymore. ![]() Wait....doesn't it take you like 1000M to warm up? 300 M is gonna be a cake walk, ha! You are gonna rock it. |

We definitively need to get a more active. My real training will begin in a few weeks. After Miami I have a long swim (Cancun to Isla Mujeres) in May and then its off to the races for IM Cozumel. ;-) G Oh very cool on all your races but especially the long swim. I'm thinking about entering an OWS race. You will do great in all of your races! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I know the topic of wetsuits came up earlier, but I was wondering if any of ya'll had recomendations to buy wetsuits online. I don't mind online shopping, I just want to make sure I can try it on and return it if if doesn't fit well. I'm also torn between sleeve less and full sleeves (following the main forum on this). Budget is $200 max, kinda tight on money. I have a lot of things that I have to take care of in the next few months. BTW, looks like most of ya'll are getting some solid training. Good job, and hope everyone is doing well. |

Good job, and hope everyone is doing well. I got mine at XTERRA wetsuits. They have full body for 200, a sleeve-less for 99. They have a 30 day return policy and you can use the wetsuit during this time without issue, they specifically do not allow it to be used in a chlorine pool or it voids the warranty and return-warranty is 2 years. They will pay shipping to re-ship on exchanges too. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm thrilled because I had a 4mile run at just under a 10-min mile! This is a first for me. A couple of months ago it was 13min miles and last month 12min miles for that distance. If this progression would keep going, I could take gold at the next Olympics |

I used it in a chlorine pool- but they took it back. We lucked out. ![]() Yesterday I ran a VERY HARD trail run. Took me 2:15 to do 10 miles! I can do 13.1 miles in 2:07. Ha! VERY HILLY course. Lots of fun though! I loved the challenge of it all! Trail runs are greatness! Off to do a recovery ride. My quads are in a new world of hurt right now. WOW! |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 1/2 mary training question: I'm finishing week 6 of Hal Higdon's Novice 1/2 mary program http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm. That plan has my longest run as 10miles a week before. There were a few comments on here earlier about people wishing they'd had more distance before their 1/2 mary. So, would I be better off to alter the rest weeks on Week 6 and 9 so I that I keep the long run progression going of adding a mile each week? That would put me doing 12 by the week before. Or is it better to keep it as planned and go in with a max distance of 10miles? My training log roughly shows my current 1/2mary/tri plan for March/April. Still working to put in realistic paces. The 1/2 mary (Flying Pig) course does have hills. I have limited hill training available near my neighborhood. I'm driving to a rolling course for today's 6mile run and plan to aim for that for each weekend's long run so I don't go in totally flat. So, what should I do? |

But the recovery might be good. End of week 10 - 12 miles End of week 11 - 8 miles End of week 12- Half Mary Try to run hills for your long runs. If you are not strong on hills... the hills will kill you race day. If you can't get a lot of your long runs in on hills, plan to walk up the hills on race day. Save your energy. Also know that training on hills can aggravate IT band injuries and Achilles injuries. Good luck! Edited by KSH 2010-03-14 9:45 PM |

If you can't get a lot of your long runs in on hills, plan to walk up the hills on race day. Save your energy. Also know that training on hills can aggravate IT band injuries and Achilles injuries. Good luck! Thanks so much for the advice. I like the feel of the mileage progression and I'm looking for some more hills. I like (I can't believe I'm saying this!) the idea of hilly long runs. The path I used Sunday is hilly, but only 2miles long with a traffic light 1/2mile in. I did my hilly 6mile run on a 11.9min/mile pace. That was with four traffic light stops and walking 20" after each mile. I was pleasantly surprised that I finished feeling like I could have gone a couple more miles. Minimal achiness but I did feel it a bit in that hip that night, although not today ... In my post that you responded to, I said I was finishing week 6 of Hal Higdon's novice half mary plan. Oops, I apparently can neither count nor read. I finished Week 5 and am just starting Week 6. His plan for Wk. 6 is 4/4/5k race. I'm thinking 4/4/7 -- then go into the plan you gave me. On the rest weeks, Higdon's plan has me cutting back on the cross training time. Do you think I should also do that here - if so, which weeks? The 8mile ones? Right now I'm swimming 30-45min Tues/Fri, biking short Wed/ long Sat and have Monday as a rest day. I plan to back off on the swimming yardage to make time for some heavy technique work. I'm not sure what I want to do on cycling. The cross training time on the Higdon plan doesn't give me a long ride on Saturdays, only 60min max - which makes me nervous from a tri point of view. Cycling's a weak sport for me. I was thinking that I'd substitute the bike part of Gail Bernhardt's Faster Sprint-Distance Performance instead, syncing up the rest weeks. Okay, or too much for my legs? Looking at her plan, it looks she saves the bricks for rest weeks, not sure if that's a good rest for me or not? I've decided to skip my mid-April sprint to save myself for the May 2nd 1/2 mary. My first tri will probably be a sprint in late May/early June. Still shopping...
