Ordered new running shoes!!

I've been running in motion control shoes (Brooks Addiction) for a couple of years after a bad bout of hamstring/popliteus tendonitis but found that adding a wedge insole to my right shoe helped++.

I tried Brooks Trance yesterday with the insole and they felt great so lets hope I'm ok in them, the Addictions are very bulky and heavy.

So we have gotten off to a pretty good start this tri season.  What are some of the items everyone would like to work on over the next month?  I am in tri base building again.  I haven't decided on my next "A" race yet but I need to get back into a regular schedule.  I have started getting my weekly long bike in and feel good running now too.  Bike base is the focus though.

Hope everyone has a great weekend planned.  I am cheering my wife on in a half mary in the morning then a long bike in the afternoon.

The big target for the next month for me is to up the cycling endurance as I have the 82 mile sportive coming up in May as my next big target. The summer triathlons are starting to be announced so I need to work my swimming as well.

Had a great run around the historic city of Edinburgh yesterday as my wife and I were on a 2 day kid free break prior to her return to work from maternity leave. It is a lovely city to wander around. Tried to run up arthurs seat (a hill in the city centre) and it fairly quickly turned into a brisk walk but the run back down has certainly given my quads a decent bashing. Stiff as a board today. Need to work some more hills into my routine I suspect.

After tomorrow's half mary, my next A race will be St. Anthony's 5150 series race on May 1.  I may squeeze in a sprint tri to get the feel of racing in a wetsuit. The plan for this summer is to participate in enough races to qualify for the season championship in the Publix Family Fun Weekend tri series.  Last year I had more points than the top 3 guys in the Clydesdale division, but didn't do enough races.

I think you'll do great in those. I love mine, been switching back in forth from the brooks Trance and the Asics Kayano (very similar). Good luck with them.

Big congrats on smashing that target! Great job.

How did it go?

We found the same Chet, we found ourselves talking about our kids the whole time and missed them like crazy. They seemed to enjoy their time with the grandparents though.

Well the local club seems to be off the ground so I have signed up just now and will try to get to the track/swim session tomorrow night (as long as this snow has gone, glad I wasn't doing the half here today in blizzard conditions!)

I am really trying to focus on weight loss. It's not going so well, on the loss part but I haven't gained either. I am on may plateau. The second part of my focus is to get into as races as I can fit in this year to become more comfortable racing, and within that focus I think I will really focus on swim technique being that I think I can improve in this area.

Good luck to your wife. I really like half mary's too. On another note: What kind of cycling shoes do you like? And what do you guys get into when looking for a shoe? Someone suggested Sidi for me. The price is outrageous. But I kinda think it might be worth it if there is a huge difference in comfort.

Awsome Chris!

If you would have said, "S*%#, you could have gone 1:55" you would have been right on.  I had to stop at mile 8 to use the bathroom.  Cost me 2 minutes, but not my goal.

Thanks everyone for the support.

Race report is up.

First, thanks. Second, I just got a pair of Louis Garneau Tri Speed shoes and love them.  I tried them out at my LBS before buying.

I am a cheapskate and therefore use DHB shoes. They seem pretty comfortable. Last year they were doing a tri version for the same price but I can't see them at the moment. They also do a carbon version.

I get 12% off everthing in this store (because I spend too much with them) so its even cheaper still. Latest great deal from them was a gore windstopper top reduced from £109 to £40!

My brother in law tells me that cycling gear costs a fortune in Oz so he often gets us to buy him stuff and ship it over to him.

All sporting goods cost a fortune here - small market and long way from everywhere!

I got my Brooks Trance shoes from wiggle, $135 including delivery to Australia, would have cost me $270 from the local running shop!!!

I have a pair of Shimano Tri Shoes but they are past worn out.  I like the tri shoe because of the one strap so it makes them fast in transition.  They were about $100 at the local shop.  That is one thing I have to try on before purchasing!

Sluggish start to the week for me.  Very busy day today with a early trip to Utah tomorrow.  How is everyone else doing this week?

So far so good this week. Nice easy turbo session yesterday and a decent swim this evening. Hopefully the weather will improve tomorrow and I can get out doors for a run.

Busy week for me, we moved house yesterday!!

I'm now living by the beach and can run from my door onto a great oceanfront cycling/walking/running path and cycle straight onto the coast road most people use for training.

(and walk down to the beach for a surf!!!)

Managed a 1800m swim yesterday lunchtime then a 5k run last night including a 3k time-trial. My 3k time was 13:35 with an average pace of 7:17 per mile or 4:31 per km. That's fast for me so my tri training seems to be good for my running.

I've got a 10km race on Sunday in Brisbane so I'm hoping for a good time.

Cheers,

Dave

That sounds an amazing location Dave! Congrats on the new home. Looking out at the snow as I type this and feeling a teensy bit jealous...

Good work on the time trial.

Hit the water for the first time since October... 2100 of the longest yards I have ever swam.  I wish swimming came more naturally but it is a lot of work for me.  I always feel like my stroke turnover takes F O R E V E R ! ! !  I think it may be because of my long arms, but as my wife pointed out, "Did you see the wingspan on Michael Phelps?"  Oh well.

Had a beautiful moonlit run with the dog on the beach last night, got to do this more often!

Today had a 2100m swim followed by 50k bike ride. After that had to go back to our old house and mow the lawn and clear the garden, much more tiring than the workout...

Well done on getting back in the pool Chris! I get brief periods of feeling smooth in the pool and then the next lap I feel like a hippo! Maybe I need stroke correction??

David- Your place is absolutely beautiful!  I am sure it was nice in the moonlight too and a lot cooler.  It sounds like you had a big workout day, nice.

Chris- Like David said, some days feel smooth, some days feel like I am pulling a boat.  What I notice is that I need at least 2 days a week to feel smooth.  If I am swimming consistently it is much better.  If I take a week off, it takes some time to get the feel and balance back.

Just got back from the cabin.  A mileage run on tap and getting settled back in.  Anyone racing this weekend?
