lkc01234 - 2009-08-13 8:42 AM Hi all...so I have like 10 pages to catch up to, but I'll go ahead and post a quick update.  I too did my race (and yes race report is up).  I GUESS I was ok with my race.  I finished and my time wasn't TERRIBLE compared to my first and only other race.  I've been busy with work and boys lately Tongue out - it's been tiring!

congrats on your finish! gets some rest now! how old are the boys?

BozNC - 2009-08-13 6:26 AM Came in to work early because we were going to do a 40 mile ride this morning but it's raining. Hopefully it will clear up and I can ride later.
So right after I posted that, everyone comes in and no one wants to be the one that says let's not ride. Welcome to our Alpha Male world. It took us 2H 22M to do 40 miles. Luckily, the rain was light so it wasn't as bad as I expected. Actually felt comfortable compared to the heat wave we've been riding in lately. Hope everyone is having a great day. -Boz

Boz,

Do you work at a shop or somewhere where a bunch of guys ride anyways?

I wish I was in that situation - sounds like good motivation!

I'm in the Army (21 years now). I'm in a unit where everything is a competition. Seven of us signed up for a Century race on Labor Day so we've been trying to ride as much as we can in order to get ready. When we're not deployed we train our behinds off trying to get ready for the next deployment. It does make it difficult staying in racing shape only being able to train intermittently.

Cool - well thanks for serving.

I understand the deployment - 8 years in the Navy so submarine based training is pretty non-existent!

Great that you have some competition close by!

Bill, I didn't know you were a bubble head!!!  My hubby is the A-Gang chief on the Philly.  Well, he was till he screwed up his shoulder.  Now he's on limited duty and awaiting his next boat.  Where were you stationed?  What boats??

never heard of "bubble head" before....I have to say you had me re reading his post to see what qualified him to be one!

Afternoon team.  Pretty much wrapped the basement clean out process.  Time to relax until 9:00pm tonight when my buddy shows up with his dump trailer and the driveway gets cleared out.  Glad we are not packrats and now we are even less of packrats.

My DW asked if I would rather be cleaning out the basement or sitting around work and I told her she would not understand but I much preferred the physical work of cleaning out the basement.  She just laughed.

Football practice with a 4 mile run thrown in then tomorrow it is back on the bike - yeah!

Got a great nap in also - which  was awesome - I love naps - I think they should be required by law daily!

suweeeeeeeeeeeeet - does that mean you are volunteering to come and help me clean my garage out!? sounds like you are a pro and I could use that now! I am trying to simplify and have been making huge progress in the house....now its time for the garage! problem is...its JAM PACKED FULL! can I borrow your friends trailer to make some hauls to the garbage and to goodwill????

i try to think Im not a pakrat...but if you saw my garage...youd think otherwise...time to clean it out!

I missed my calling in life - those clutter free shows - I would rule on that.  Sure I will come out and help but be ready for some harshness about the packratting .  They way I see it is if it is not used in 6 months-1 year (decorations besides) then why keep it.  Now all I need to do is sell some tools that I have laying around and buy a new bike workshop set up and I will be all set!

now I have no problem with the 6 month no wear...git rid of...with my clothing...but for some reason I have some items in the garage that I think we need when we move South...we are planning on moving from the area in about 5 years...and the 2 bedroom house we currently live in is not as large as what we plan on getting when we move....so we have some items we are keeping for that...mainly an armoire, big early 1900s buffet...and a chair that was my grandmas....and 10 bikes...2 beach cruisers, a tandem, two mtn bikes, two road bikes and a few old custom salsa frames. then there is all the vintage clothing....so....please as you can see...time to let go! even the furniture...why move what we may not use!?! right!!!??? RIGHT??? ;( can i let go???

Well if you need help with the bikes - let me know - never too many of those.  Those Salsa frames sound like fun - BTW I am 5'10" with 32" inseam if that fits either of those

Now for the vintage clothing - have a sell off - you can probably score some sick $$ for that in your area!

ok...you come help me with my sell of vintage clothing and the custom salsa frame is yours...I am 5'7ish" so not sure it would fit you....my husband just built a single speed mtn bike from a vintage specialized bike...he the letters iz out of the word specialized and he is now on his custom... special ed bike! tee hee

obtw...i recently bought a suweeet carbon fiber bike  Trek Madrone 5.5 frame with two pair of bontrager carbon handlebars....flight deck computer and bontrager seat post at a yard sale for $200 - I was hoping my husband would be tall enough...but it was just a bit too big. talk about a SUPER lite bike! HECK I may even like uphills if I ride a carbon fiber frame

we sold one pair of the handlebars for $125...so the rest of the stuff including the frame only cost me $75...now thats a deal..wanna go yard saling with me?

Shoot, great deal.  And you know, I just happen to be in the 5'7", 5'8" range.  I'll be happy to take the frame off your hands for you!

if you want the salsa frame...you can have it! it is more for mtn biking....rigid frame.

I made it back from Baltimore last night -- YEA!!  It sure seemed like a long week, especially since my laptop just didn't want to cooperate.  And I missed such fun conversation with you guys.  So here's my synopsis:

If you are going to have cold pizza, you MUST invite me -- I am the pizza queen!  I order more pizza than I can possibly eat for dinner so that I can have it for breakfast too.  I've always said that if I were limited to one type of food, it would have to be pizza.  So let's have another pizza conversation soon, please?

I definitely want to be in a half mary training group.  Mine is on November 21st, and it's the same race I PR'd two years ago.  In fact, if anyone wants to come down and run it, I have plenty of room to put you up.  The race conditions are usually ideal -- November in northwest Florida is usually gorgeous, with cool temps in the morning and bright sunny skies.  Unfortunately, the course isn't scenic but it's mostly flat with a gradual downhill for the second half.  I plan to start seriously training for this in early September, when it cools down a little.  So Hal's Gals it is -- although guys are welcome too!

I'm bummed I missed saying bye to Stacie.  I wish I were going on vacation.   So far we haven't planned one this year, mostly because we had to buy two new air conditioners this year.  But we're kicking around doing something in November or December -- it will be our 25th anniversary!

Then there was the talk about biking in the rain.  I don't really like doing anything in the rain, but I love the competition part.  That would surely motivate me to get out, and I'm jealous that you have a group like that.  Seems like my training friends are fair-weather partners.  But maybe they are smarter than me, because our rain is typically from thunderstorms.   And yes, thank you for serving in the Army and keeping us safe.  Both my dh and I were in the Air Force -- that's where we met!

I know there were lots of other things I missed out on, too!  I hope everyone has a super weekend -- mine starts today.  I'm heading out for a bike ride in a few minutes...

Welcome back Cheri.

Yes, Pizza does rock, especially Digorno Pepperoni with cheese filled crust. My kids and I are hooked on that one. They like it better than restaurant pizza.

Rest day today for me. I may do an hour of P90X tonight just to keep the calendar peach.

Hope everyone is having a great Friday.

I usually eat a bagel and drink my cup of coffee in the morning no matter how long the ride is. Haven't had any issues.

Absolutely -- a bagel with peanut butter and some coffee.  Otherwise I get light-headed... hmm, like I'm not already ?
