TElenor - 2010-04-06 11:27 AM Hi A-Teamers!  I just wanted to say that I had a really great swim in the pool this morning!  I did my first interval workout (not pushing hard enough apparently, since I didn't feel like puking Smile), 8x100 with warmup, drills, and a leisurely cooldown.  My fastest 100 clocked in at 1:24, and I managed to keep the other 7 no slower than 1:30!  I'm pretty happy about that, especially since I'm still getting into swimming shape.  I haven't figured out what my goal should be down the road, but now I at least have something to work from.

On a completely different note, I've been pondering something that I thought I might as well throw out to all of you.  As you may have guessed from my puny post-count, I'm very new to BT and to triathlons in general.  I've since come to wonder; do most of you more experienced folks do double workouts in a day?  I see a lot of "I swam this morning, getting on the trainer this afternoon..." and the such.  It makes sense to double up in a day, I think, but I've been wondering how to structure it.  Double up one or two days a week, or more?  Hard workout in the morning, easy in the afternoon?  Two relatively easy workouts?  One long, one short?  Just curious what my fellow teammates are up to...

For me, I will double up on swim workouts with a bike or run.  Or strength sessions with a bike or run (or theoretically I would, if I was better about doing this - which is why these are one of my goals this month).  I usually only double up the bike and run in a day if I am intentionally doing a brick.  Or only doing a short distance of one to make up some time (because I'm way behind in a challenge).  : )

I got my 20 mile trainer ride in last night.  It was S-L-O-W and painful...  but done!

Today I brought my running stuff to go outside but now it is raining.  Cry  Trying to decide if I want to suck it up and just get on the treadmill here at work or wait until I go to the pool tonight and run around the track.

Maybe I'll get lucky and the rain will stop?

Slow.... 24 was on last night.  You should of been sprinting!

I should have been!  I felt just crappy last night...  I was forced to watch the KC Royals game for the first part of my ride which did NOT help.

We are still 2 seasons back on 24.  We have been watching them from Netflix.  But I am DVRing the current season so we'll be ready!

First, you should be very pleased with those 100s.  Those are good times!

As for the training, the only workouts I double up on a normal basis is swim plus a run or bike.  I find this less stressful on my body than brick workouts (bike, run, ick).  I only do bricks a couple times a month and keep them very small in distance, usually around 20 bike and 3-5 run.  I definately avoid double runs.

Hope that helps.

Thank you!  I swam competitively a while back but wasn't sure where I would stand so many years later.  The bike and the run are where I really need work, though.

I like the idea of doubling up with a swim day.  I suppose it's just a matter of being organized?  Maybe I'll give it a go later this week.  The brick workout is something I'm planning on getting to know by the end of April.  I didn't give them too much thought (as in, I didn't do any) before the one triathlon I did last year and paid for it with a heinous calf cramp on the first half of my run.  Pretty typical, I've come to understand.  Nothing quite like gimping along watching everybody else cruise on by.

Alright... I got to get my butt moving.  Off for another road ride.  I should have my MTB back together tonight and hitting the trails again tomorrow morning.

Oh, and by the way Kim, I ended up drying my own tights so I could go riding!Smile

rnihill - 2010-04-06 6:59 AM What I really think I am going to do today is come up with a plan for my swim session tonight.  I could swim the same pace forever and ever...  And I am never going to speed it up without some sets of sprints, etc.

Plus, I'm getting bored in the pool.  So, in order to keep me from getting bored at work, my goal today is to come up with a fun plan for the pool tonight!

Now that sounds like a cool job. Planning your workouts and exercising.

Yes, if only I could get paid for it!

I guess I should do some real work today too...

x2 on cold rain. Not fun. I did a run one fall evening when it started to rain and I didn't have my hat on.  By the time I got home my scalp was so cold each new rain drop hurt. Definitely one of those runs that I'll always remember. I always wear a hat now if its a little chilly just in case.

Last night would have been a beautiful night for a run in the snow if it wasn't so windy. It was a struggle to stay in my lane driving home.

Hoping to take the wife out in the morning!  Probably going to be sloppy.  We might have to stick to the fireroads.  We have a lot of clayish soil around here and the tires just can't shed it.  Got to get your off-raod legs back into it.  Every year we go up to Tahoe for a week without the kids.  I do the Tahoe City XTERRA then we'll ride of few hundred miles of single track.  Last year, I think I nearly killed her, but she didn't lose the smile until the last day.

Well I had both today and last night was 20+ headwind on the way home.  Sorry that is all I have.  Snowriding though - that is fun!

They can be amazing huh.  I have a snow ride I will remember for the rest of my life. Its a shame that I let a little snow hold me back when I have so many good memories that involve snow. I just need to get my butt out the door because I know things will probably turn out just fine.

Bill. Here's the new toy I would really like to get my hands on!  I've been trying to find a gently used one for a while now.  Specialized Carbon HT.  I would build it strictly for racing.

Its good your wife enjoys it too so its something you can do together.  My wife would rather sit at the pool and read while I'm out riding around.

do most of you more experienced folks do double workouts in a day?  I see a lot of "I swam this morning, getting on the trainer this afternoon..." and the such.  It makes sense to double up in a day, I think, but I've been wondering how to structure it.  Double up one or two days a week, or more?  Hard workout in the morning, easy in the afternoon?  Two relatively easy workouts?  One long, one short?  Just curious what my fellow teammates are up to...

Usually I will double up depending on my time and energy, and usually one of the workouts is more important than the other so the less important one is "skippable".  I generally have more energy in the afternoon, so if I split it morning/night, my morning workout is usually the easier one (usually yoga, swimming, or biking/trainer) and then do a harder one in the evening (run, lifting, bricks).  That said, recently I've just been sleeping in and skip my yoga/swim/bike workouts Embarassed  Once the season kicks in, I plan on hunkering down and trying to get more morning sessions in.

Funnily enough, my weekends are the opposite of my weekdays.  I almost always do a morning workout (long run on Saturdays, recovery run, yoga, or biking if the weather's nice on Sundays).  If I get a second one in during the evening, that's just an added bonus.
