Did you go through a complete fit which included knee tracking and cleat adjustment?  Or, was it just a quick, ok pedal the bike, looks good adjustment by a salesman?  When I got fit, the process took about three hours.

i did a full fit w/ a FIST certified fitter.  took about an hour.  i suppose i could just call them and ask their opinion.

Yep, that is a momma moose & her calf.  Not sure if dada is around, did not see him.  Probably just as well, because they are very big & dumb!!!!

There are many motor vehicles deaths, from hitting those beasts.  They are well over 1000 lbs & stupid.  They have no fear of cars, etc & will walk in front of you & stare at you.  They stand so tall on legs, that when they are hit, their legs come out & body goes over hood of vehicle & through the windshield, usually crushing the front passengers.  The folks  that are not immediately killed, are usually killed instantly by a kick, as the animal tries to get outSurprised

Anyway, impressive beasts.  Back to triathlon programming!

Richard, I thought I had problems with rabbits.  That takes the cake. LOLLaughing  btw, even if the rabbits eat the shrubs I'm still not allowed to shoot them.  LOL

I got a nice swim in this morning.  Moved up my volume to sets of 400m with 60 sec rest between.  Felt pretty good.  I was doing the 400's in about 10 minutes.  I really wish I could get a bit faster than that, but at least my endurance in the water is coming along.  I tried out some flex fins from TYR I bought today.  Those things make you fly on the kickboard!!! lol  I could really feel it stretching out my ankles and strengthening my kick.  Overall, they seem to be a good purchase

I do the same drill every now and then...but I feel like it's not practical unless you're leading your wave start. Otherwise, I feel like you'd just be lifting your head to make sure you're following the crowd...not sure if you'd be able to see the bouys. I guess I'll find out next weekend at Wildflower. With no time to do an OWS between now and race day, I'll have to try the eyes-closed-count-your-strokes-until-you-hit-something drill at the pool.

I've had pretty good "luck" with seeing the buoys and I'm never in front on the swim! Embarassed.  I also try to find landmarks above the buoys when practical.

Didn't you do the Alcatraz swim?  How did you sight during that race?

Yup, but for Alcatraz you're sighting off a huge ship or the fontana towers. I'm really not too worried about the whole sighting thing, just curious if using the bouys is realistic for the whole pack.

Ahh, just read the website a little closer. There will be sailboats marking all the "turns" on the swim course. Bouys will be between the sailboats. That makes me feel a little better.

How frequently you sight depends on how straight you swim. The next time you're at the pool, push off from the wall with your eyes shut and see how many strokes you take before running into one of the lane lines. Do this several times and you'll likely find a consistent number. If you hit the lane lines every 5th or 6th stroke then sight every 5th or 6th stroke. Remember, every stroke taken beyond your "number" without sighting is a stroke taking you off course - one you'll have to retake to get back on track.

So I played with this a bit today.  I did some 50s with my eyes closed and only opened them on sight breaths.  It was a little tough at first, but actually started to feel comfortable and relaxing.  I had to sight breath every third breath (9 strokes) to keep fairly straight.

The other people in the pool probably thought I was drunk or blind!Embarassed

I have Zoomers which I use every once and a while.  They are a short, rigid swim fin.  Basically, the use of fins help exaggerate the swim kick and reinforce the feel for the water.  But, fins also help with body position, kick strength, and ankle flexibility.

As with any training tool, occasional use is good, but care needs to be taken so you don't become dependant.
