Accidentally added 150 yds onto my 1100yd swim today.  Oops.  Feeling pretty good about the workout and am hoping to get out and lift later.  Roads are slick up here, so if you're out in it, stay safe.

And I know that my endurance training is taking effect.  My sweet tooth has kicked in massively.  My poison - Ghirardelli 72% dark chocolate.

Ice - I totally believe that to be true. If I don't start eating crap, I get on a roll. If I have even the slightest thing that isn't on my meal plan, or that I can't log calories for, then forget it, I'm done for the day and eating everything in sight. Abstinence is key for me too.

OK you can go to the front of the line on this one - I feel for you but if I had to bet I would still bet Clevelan wins a playoff game before Detroit.

tmoran80 - 2011-01-17 3:39 PM How about a core workout for 7 days straight.  I suggest that Around The World routine.  While it would suck everyone could benefit from that.

The nice part about those Ghirardelli chocolates is that each square comes individually wrapped.  One usually does it for me.  My fiance and I got our butts handed to us in spin class last night so I asked her if she wanted one.  She said no, so there I was holding two of them.  They didn't last long...

How about throwing some of the swim drills into the 2000 yarsd?  Example.. Start of with 100Y Thumb to Thigh, 100Y Catchup, 50Y Left Arm, 50Y Right Arm then continue your work out and end the swim doing some more drills?  So you would have 600Y drills, 1400Y cont. swim.

Thats not good if you are feeling light headed.  After reading this nutrition book and and doing my own research I am amazed at how much a triathlete needs to eat -haha.  As I mentioned before - last year I would feel the same way because I was not properly refueling after workouts and would come home and eat any type of candy or junk food I could get my hands on.  The thing I never realized was that I was "refueling" each day maybe 3/4 of what I needed.  So the next day was a little worse and so on so that by the 4th or 5th day I was complete toast and would blow off a workout or blow off my diet.

I actually find it as hard or maybe harder to try and eat enough calories and carbs to properly refuel as it is to get my workouts in.  But the good thing is that instead of spending the end of the day scrounging for junk food I am looking for quality food just to meet my daily requirement.

KC I actually pull for the lions, I love a team that never quits. That is very hard to find in pro sports.

Scott, I love my sweets and allow myself one desert per week when training.  I try to make it the lowest possible calories, but I have a client that owns a coldstone so I have to support them sometimes. LOL

Rob, always good to do a few extra especially if you didn't even notice it.

Jason if it were me I would work on the drills while they are fresh in your mind. If possible do the swim the following day or in a couple days. Jason what are you eating?

I like Jason/Tim struggle with nutrition so I this year I am trying a new plan. I started today and boy is it hard to eat 7 times per day.  They are tiny meals but one every couple hours.  I'll let you know how it work out.

1:45 tonight on the Computrainer with 3X 15 mins at 50-60 rpms @ 90-100%... Really good exercise mimicking three long 3 mile climbs with some serious grades.

Swim was good this morning...45 mins with speed drills.

I don't fault anyone their sweets.  I just know my limits.  I keep mine to angel food cake because I kow if I started doing sugary stuff, it tosses off my blood sugar and I start to crave more.  After losing the 200, no thanks.

I have to preface this that I am no way a dietitian (I do use one though).  Going off the assumption that you workout after work and you eat lunch around noon, your longest gap of no food is just when you need it most.  Might want to look at a mid afternoon snack.  I start working out around 5:30 so I try to eat something around 4:00/4:30.

Please correct my assumptions if they are wrong.

As a former fat man, I have a terrible time putting more in my mouth...But I know that I should be.  I eat breakfast at 6 a, lunch at 11:30 and have a energy letdown about 2 p.m.   I eat supper at 6 or 7 after working out and then have a snack later.   As you say, I should be eating 3 smaller meals and 2 snacks at least for a grand total of about 3,000 cals BEFORE adding in the workouts.  That is A LOT of food.  I am usually about 2000 to 2400.  2000 is my resting metabolism.  Yeah, I know, too little.  In my defense, I plan to up the calories as the workouts ramp up. Snack before and after and fuel during for intense workouts.  I have to get it through my head that they won't hurt me, they will help me get the most out of the workouts and let me recover better for the next day.  But I have to convince the former fat man inside.  I will never go back.

Ice.

yeh- i am still playing with what i can eat and when before a workout.  i am very happy to say that i have used gels twice for longer runs adn have not had any problmes with my stomach.  i drank a good bit of water with them.  i hate to say that bc my next gel might kill my stomach but alittle progress is great!

I think that looks great - the only thing I would suggest is that it looks like you do afternoon workouts?  Similiar to what Dave siad, I am wondering if you need to eat more at lunch.  Particularly more carbs.  You are getting the protein with the chicken breast but thinking you might need more than the Lean Cuisine.  How about a bagel with Peanut Butter or maybe just a sports drink before your workout?  Also didn't see much fruit on there -lol.  The 2-3 hours beofre your workout and the 1 hour after are your most critical.

I workout in the early am so my typical daily diet is:

4:30/5:00AM - Wake up and eat 1/4 cup raisins, toast and glass of pomegranet juice prior to workout

7:00 AM - Whole grain cereal (Grapenuts, kashi, etc), banana or apple, orange juice, vitamins & coffee

10:00AM - bagel with peanut butter or 2 whole grain waffles with light maple syrup - I will also try and eat some other type of fruit during the morning

12:00PM - Subway -  I get a 12" and eat 6" at lunch - Wheat bread and either Chicken breast or turkey with veggies and Subway apples.

3:00PM - I eat the other 6" sub

6:00PM - Dinner usually with some type of chicken either breast or ground and and with veggies, milk , Romaine/spinach garden salad or some type of pasta.  This is usually my biggest meal of the day.

8:00PM - 10:00PM - I will try and snack on some dried apricots, almonds, toast and Peanut butter, etc and have another glass of pomegranite juice to try and fill the rest of my calorie/carb  for the day.
