Extreme Veteran 1574 | Subject: RE: Todd's Tri Turtles - (Beginners, Sprint, 5K, 10K) - CLOSED Originally posted by Rnay225 You found me! This is the first time I've really been on the computer since Friday or so. Sorry to leave you all but I'm back now! To fill you in, I managed to log a M-F workout week last week (YAY!) and had just started at a new job working in dietary at a long term care/rehab facility. I love it so far but it's really physical so after a week of work and a week of workouts I was definitely feeling it this week. I took the weekend off as my cousin came in from New York on Friday night and ended up getting engaged on Saturday! Sunday I worked at my second job and so far this week I've worked my dietary job M-W, today at my second job, tomorrow back in dietary and Saturday is my first tri of the season! It's a sprint and since I continued all 3 disciplines since my first tri last August I'm feeling much more comfortable with the race. It's also the same course my other tri was and is the same race I volunteered for last year so I'm certainly not underselling it but I'm a lot more comfortable this time and not freaking out about taking it easy this week. To sum it up, between my new job (they're supposed to be hiring more people since part time SHOULD be 3-4 days per week instead of 4-5), my second job (always 2 days per week), preparing for my trip to Peru next month, preparing for my move to Texas in 2 ish months, NOW trying to get a handle on planning a wedding (which will be here in Louisville so I'm trying to at least get a venue settled before the move), my cousin being in town and being just a little bit overworked, I've slacked on my posting and my workouts BUT on the bright side, my nutrition has remained steady and on point so I actually managed to lose a pound which is much better than the gain I was anticipating. Looks like things here are going well. I'll continue to read for sure but my apologies if I don't get to respond to everything. Thanks for the support and I'll be back for sure to tell you about my race Saturday if not before then! Congrats on the Engagement and the up coming Tri this weekend. It sounds to me like you have really thought about everything and should feel confident. It goes to show that volunteering can be a positive that day, but also a great learning tool for down the road. Good luck this weekend and if you need anything don't be afraid to send me a PM and I will try to get back with you ASAP. |

I have been tooling around town on my mountain bike all the while eyeballing with jealousness everyones road bikes. Found a bike which will fit me that I think is a pretty good deal (at least as described.) 2011 Felt Z5 - $1,200 http://elmira.craigslist.org/bik/3852257427.html Wife gave me the thumbs up as a Father's day gift so my fingers are crossed! Jason, checking in to see if there is an update on the green light for a new bike? |

Probably for the best as we just bought a new camper and have tied up all if not more than our disposable dollars for now. |

Member 45 | Subject: RE: Todd's Tri Turtles - (Beginners, Sprint, 5K, 10K) - CLOSED Just checking in on my fellow 0to1650 swimmers. How is it going y'all?! I started week 4 yesterday and am scheduled to hit day two today. The long intervals are a bit intimidating but so far I have been up to the challenge. In peeking at next week though things get hairy quick. On had my last swim lesson last night which went well. We worked on breathing technique and focused on getting me breathing 3 to 1 on both sides. I had been breathing every stroke and only on my right hand side. The new tech has me breathing every three strokes and out alternating sides. When I can pull it off it feels way more natural and more effective. I just need to get the muscle memory in place breathing out the "other" side. This seems important not so much in a pool swim but with unpredictable open water conditions it could come in really handy. Hope everyone else is progressing well! |

Once I got used to bilateral breathing my swim times improved. I'm sure you'll see similar results too. Now it comes as second nature and I don't need to think about it. Stick with it, I'm sure you'll master this important skill.. |

Extreme Veteran 1574 | Subject: RE: Todd's Tri Turtles - (Beginners, Sprint, 5K, 10K) - CLOSED Just to let everyone know, Beth sent me a message letting me know that she has a sick child at the house and will likely not be very active for the next 4-7 days. Her boy is going to be fine, but we do a good job of keeping up with each other, so I wanted to give everyone a heads up. |

I'm so excited to take it out for the first ride! I ended up with a 2013 Specialized Allez Sport compact! It gorgeous and I love it!!! Now I feel like a serious triathlete! O.K. Ashley, you are aware of the Bike Porn that is necessary, but there is a second thing that you may not be aware of. If you say that you got a new bike and don't post a picture of it, well then it didn't happen If it did happen, I'd say that was Super Great News, but then again I have no proof. |

It looks like everyone is doing well. I feel inactive posting from my phone and all is difficult. I have yet to inspire any one person directly and i apologize for that. I Will do my best to participate a little more. I finally got off my last butt and I got two workouts in. (Sorry Todd i didn't ease back into things like you suggested.) I squeezed just under 12 mile bike ride in before work and i managed to do my normal 2.5 mile route run as soon as i walked in the door from work. |

Well you already have a bike, and camping is a family event, so I say nice purchase. The family and I love to go camping and it helps to ensure solid contact and communicaiton between us, without interference from technology. Enjoy the camper and start saving again for the bike. Bikes will always be there but our kids won't always be kid's. |

Veteran 251 Louisville | Subject: RE: Todd's Tri Turtles - (Beginners, Sprint, 5K, 10K) - CLOSED So today was the first tri of the season and also my first DNF. Even though I'm disappointed and highly embarrassed I think I made the right decision. I really haven't felt like myself the past week and a half (tired, irritable, no appetite etc.) and I think I'm just really overwhelming myself and trying to do everything. On the drive up to Indianapolis last night I had my phone out answering emails, my wedding binder out to work on the number of guests before a meeting with a venue coming ups this week and a notebook on standby to start my packing list for Peru. My fiancé (still weird) started telling me about his day and I just burst into tears. I was beyond tired and just couldn't even think of words. So we got to the hotel and I got everything ready for the race and laid down but instead of that nervous excited semi sleep you have the night before a race I was out cold and woke up with a start to my alarm this morning completely disoriented. I did all my normal pre-race stuff and tried to get excited but just felt drained. I set up everything, tested the water and was confident that I could tackle the distance but still just felt bleh. I lined up in the chute and went into the water but things didn't feel right at all. I took a few strokes and felt like I was swimming in syrup. My arms and legs were dead. I tried every trick to keep going but was fully exhausted after like 50 meters. I swam back to shore where I could stand and tried to get it together but just all around felt like crap. I tried again 2 more times but just kept feeling worse so I called it, got out of the water and turned in my chip. Even walking up to the beach was hard. Don't get me wrong, I'm really upset about it but I'm positive I made the right call. Especially knowing the course I was way too tired to have finished the bike and that's if I could even get through the swim first. I'm writing this from the car and haven't stopped yawning since I woke up and still feel like a paperweight. Hope I didn't scare any of you newbies off. I just think sometimes you need to know when to fold em. |

It's a shame it was a DNF but I think it takes more presence of mind and intelligence to call it at the right time, so congratulations on making the right choice. As Dawn said, there are always other races, and it's way more important to treat your mind and body well. Give yourself some time off, and enjoy your rest. |
