spokes - 2007-12-11 6:22 PM I think I need therapy.

This is not a new concept.

I'm really, really glad you're open to it now.

I'm not sure it will do any GOOD, however.

The reason I won't swim... is knowing I'll always be compared to my children's mothers whomever guy it is of the moment being better at that, or something else...

I still hurt from the time I did a cycling omnium, I was getting roasted in the crit part, she brought the kids over, and I was doing my best to finish and  not DNF, I was last, and yelled (jokingly) "Hey, I'm last!" Aftewards, she lambasted me for saying that, saying "WHY would you be proud of that?" And saying I shouldn't bother to race if I could not compete.

Of course, her BF places and wins his AG at sprints.

If I didn't hate being fat, I would drop all of this right now.

Well, at the very least, a therapist could get you to focus on your own craziness instead of others (above post is case in point!!!)

Scott--(and this is an admission to our dearly beloved Nibs as well)--I think you actually deal with your nuts-ness better than I do. You whine, you post, you get it out, you call. I sit on my depression and insanity until a body part explodes (not kidding. Last year I had a gastric rupture, the year before that my lungs bled, etc.)

I don't have the finances or coverage to see a therapist, but I do have other really good therapeutic-type resources I can use, and I need to, so thanks for the reminder.

I will take a concrete action in that direction this week. You?

kaqphin - 2007-12-11 7:06 PM Yanti - how many people did you end up taking on? Im trying to decide whether to leave my group open for another 24 hours or keep it small...

We have 8 plus our mentor, Eric. But be forewarned.... We had about 5, then Eric stepped away from the computer for a few hours. When he came back, 3 more had signed up. Yanti had like 400000000 requests by the time I even knew they had opened up the forum. LOL

I hear posting pics of yourself in a sports bra helps.

SCOTT - Yanti wants a pic of you in a sports bra. (HECTOR AND SAL - SAME APPLIES TO YOU GUYS. They aren't here now, but I'm thinking they'll see this eventually. LOL)

I think that would be therapeutic. For them, and me.

Hasnt Yanti already covered this one?

at least once, maybe twice

and for the record, so did I - I gave him the most helpful tip of all

put down the oranges!

- of course it was funnier when his avatar was a pic of him holding a gigantic bag of oranges

LOLOL

Why are you doing this? (By that, I mean running, biking and swimming.)

For yourself? Or for your ex?

'Cause if you're doing it for yourself, then don't pay attention to her latest "guy of the moment."

I think that what you said during the crit was a good thing for your kids to see. It showed them that you weren't giving up, and that you were enjoying yourself. (Yes, winning is fun. But if you're enjoying the challenge, that's a good thing.)

I'm just waiting for the days to get longer and the holidays to be over. I LOATHE this time of year with a passion.

I think it's wise to keep yourself miserable for a whole extra month before you get help.

I need to do something before my body does it for me.

If serious, do go and talk to someone.  It really is amazing what a help it is to have someone to open up to.  My son went through severe depression and was on a suicide watch in the hospital for three weeks.  It was the hardest period of my life.  Even harder than going through my own cancer last year.  We got him a great therapist, and he did individual counseling along with family counceling.

Scott, you have a lot of people who care about you.  If it helps to talk here, then do so.  PM those who you really feel you can open up to.  It is a tough time of year, but we are here for you.

I agree.  Finishing is very important.  I'll never win my AG, but my goal is to finish and beat my own time.  Who cares what everyone else is doing.  Your kids I'm sure are proud that you are even in a race.

Here is some free therapy:
1. Self-conquest is the greatest of all victories (Plato)
2. ...this thing we call "failure" is not the falling down, but the staying down. (Mary Pickford)
3. There are two things to aim at in life: first, to get what you want; and after that,to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieve the second. (Logan Pearsall Smith)
4. Experience is not what happens to you; it is what you do with what happens to you. (Aldous Huxley)
5. Do not think your truth can be found by anyone else. (Andre Gide)
6. Very little is needed to make a happy life. It is all within yourself, in your way of thinking. (Marcus Aurelius)
7. ...when you're not thinking about yourself a lot, you're usually happy. (Al Pacino)
