Today I am supposed to have off, but crime does not stop for holidays. I just wish people would be more considerate of my off time. Kids are going to school, and thought I would take a run outside. Not sure it will be speedy, my leg is really hurting. I walked home from the store (a pissed off walk) and my screws or plate has been hurting since. I think it is easier to run than to walk, of course it might of been the shoes I had on. plates and screws in your leg??? lucy...dang girl, sounds painful! take care! and no more walking home...especially in uncomfortable shoes! I think we need to split a bottle of aleeve between us all! maybe we can get them to sponsor us!??? take care Lucy....and run...dont walk! Aleeve! I did not even think of it this morning, would have made a difference. |

Veteran 340 | Subject: RE: Show us your Ghoulies - Halloween Run Challenge Page #2 Well I did it, I did not check the distance of where I was going, so that I could just enjoy what could be my last run outside. Took RED (bike) out after and measured the distance. I was only 1/2 mile off what the plan called for. The leg did better, today. I am wondering if it is all of the strength training I am doing on the legs. I can feel the grinding and popping right where the hardware is, it may be new muscles or something. gross, but.....It is a constant reminder that I need to run inside until spring! |

I tweaked my knee playing football with my son and his friends yesterday but it felt good on the ride so hopefully it is nothing big. Guess I need to remember I am 43 and not 13! Are you doing one of Hal's running plans? I intend to start his intermediate HM plan in a few weeks to get ready for the Carlsbad Half. It will be my first race longer than 6.5 miles and by week 4 I'll have my longest run ever on the books (7 miles). For now I'm base building and my secondary goal for the month is to get a 7 miler on the books for the team. |

I've always running in either tri shorts or basketball style gym shorts. I must say the difference in gym and running shorts was an eye-opener. x2 on that... One of my first runs this past spring was a local 8k that I ran with a few friends. When I showed up in basketball shorts, my friend (who's an experienced runner) mentioned I'd probably enjoy running more in shorts designed for that activity. I didn't think much of it until I experienced some, ahem, chaffage after the run. The next day I got my first real running shorts and haven't worn the basketball shorts out running since. Yes, and running shorts are, ahem, much more liberating! no really? please do tell us more!??!?? No realllly~ Well with tri shorts, your goodies are all jammed up tween some lycra and a chamois. With gym shorts, you have to wear some sort of brief (I prefer dri-fit material boxer-briefs). Running shorts have a built in liner that negates the need for said briefs. For cooler days I did find a pair of Asics that had a compresion-style boxer brief. I hope I made that sound as clinical as possible to deprive you of any possible enjoyment you may have derived for such a description yes very clinical indeed! in otherwords no crammed unit in the shorts! more room, and less lycra and chamois...makes for a happy unit! sounds reasonable! sooo why do I see all those lycra shorts in Ironman and Olympic tris?! did they not get that memo about comfort in racing!???? My typical running wear is a pair of gym shorts (longer length that the 70s style) with compression shorts underneath. Running shorts are too short for my comfort and the show my tan line off. I have 3 pair that never get worn. Winter time I keep compression shorts and just add tights depending on temperature. This past winter I made a special trip to EMS for some fleece re-inforced in important areas because I thought I was going to have frostbite and it was not good! all this talk about mens running/tri-wear and they're goodies. (did some actually call what you got goodies? LOL) made me think of Faris Al-Sultan at the World Championships. first off. total retro running guy. his entire body is shaved, but he has the scragliest beard. crazy. then he does the entire Ironman in a SPEEDO. and what up w the buff on his head? he doesnt use cages on his bike, he just stuffs his water bottle in the back of his SPEEDO. i kept thinking there's the BORAT of KONA. did anyone catch the point in the coverage where hes going through a water station, he tugs on the waistband and dumps the entire cup of water into the crotch of his SPEEDOS. i said to myself like a zallions times. did he just do what i think he just did?? i listened to the commentary later about how that practice is very common, that it wards off heastroke so of course, w the conditions of the day his tactic totally makes sense but still....it made my eyes bug out....well that, and.....his SPEEDO. stacieb Edited by skrtrnr 2009-10-12 12:15 PM |
