So, the podiatrist says I have calcification and encapsulation in my left foot, which may be causing or aggravating tendonitis in the foot and ankle.  He gave me some injection that is supposed to help with the calcification and encapsulation.  Then some industrial strength anti-inflammatory for the tendonitis.  And finally told me no running for at least one week, maybe two.  Boy, I'm glad I waited until after the race to see him.

In the meantime, I guess I'll be working the Concept 2 rower at the house and if Sandy permits, using the pool for swimming.

Fell off the forum for a while, but haven't fallen off the training. I was going to try and get one sprint in late this summer, but the back wouldn't allow it. I have been traveling a bit this fall, but shouldn't be for a while now. I picked up some proper running shoes and started running both on the treadmill and outside when weather permitted, but then aggravated the back a few weeks ago, and haven't been running much since. The weather has moved my training indoors, so I have been spending a lot of time doing spinning, deep water running, and swimming. Since tri season is over in the nw, I'm going to focus on healing this back and losing weight.

Glad to see the thread is still alive. I'll check back in more frequently. Congrats on the duo Leather!

Welcome to November.

1 hour bike this morning.

Need to get my diet in order, and get consistent at training this month. I was thinking I was doing allot of training and then I look back at my Training Calendar and it really wasn't very good. Now I know why I have not been loosing weight.

Stick to the plan and just keep moving!!

I love this weather for running.  Went out last night with compression pants, shorts and a tech t-shirt and it was just the perfect temperature.  I'm all run all the time right now until the trainer is purchased.  I've been looking at a memerbship at the YMCA for the winter too so I can get some swimming in because that's what I desperately need to improve upon.  We'll see, maybe another xmas gift.

Keep moving everyone!

~35 min swim on Tuesday -- mostly focused on shorter sprints -- did a couple of 50m bursts under 1:00 which is pretty fast for me.

Nothing yesterday due to business travel and trick-or-treating, but did a ~35 min treadmill run this morning.   Will be very interested to do an outdoor 5K run and check my time -- hoping that a month of treadmill running has made some dent...

Hi all--Total newbie (super) Athena here. I've been lurking for a while and decided to jump in tonight. I've been training since about beginning of September and my initial motivation was to lose some weight, but I'm finding I really dig multisport! I'm REALLY slow at everything, working mainly at building my aerobic base. Today was a long swim workout, so one mile this morning (46 min). I was a little slow(er) because I'm working on learning to do flipturns without nearly drowning.

Another night, another run.  Headed out with the intentions of a slower and shorter run (5K) as I really had to talk myself into just getting off the couch.  Made the mistake of wearing a running sweatshirt when it was only maybe 45* out so by about 40% through I was over heating.  I wanted to get it done quick after that, so while my out time was 13 minutes of just moving along, I picked it up coming back in at 11:55 to get right around my 8 min mile goal.  I'm not going to say I'm getting bored of running but I really need to get that trainer so I can mix it up a bit.

I learned two things today.

One I can ride over fifty miles in a single bike. Woot finnally did it. Last time I rode this far I was 18 and and  rode it on my 20 inch bmx bike a CWZX. I'm 6'6" tall and it must have been a sight. I took my kids for there first race at the BMX track on it. The race director comes over and tells me that the bike is to small for my 7 year old daughter. I said ok, and laughed inside. I used to race this thing.

Second when you have to pee when your just out side your house, but you deside to go run anyways it will not be good. I learned I can not run when I really have to go pee. Sorry for the Yeti picture of this big white guy jumping around really have to go to the bathroom. Also its hard to run after a fifty mile bike ride.

I know to some of you the breaking the 50 mile thing isn't much, but to this three hundred pounder is was an accomplishment.

Follow the plan and just keep moving!!!

Awesome Yeti, 50 miles is great.  That's something to be proud of.  Congrats.

Best thing about being a newbie triathlete -- every training session is some kind of personal record...

Tonight -- just completed my first-ever Olympic length swim.  1500m, all front crawl.   (w00t!)   The speed was nothing to brag about (46:30 -- pace of 3:06) but lots of time to work on that.  I have an Oly scheduled in June, so first step is to make sure I can do the distances on their own.  Swim is now complete -- I'm within striking distance of the run (training plan has me doing it in December) -- the bike has been the only laggard due to weather.   Then it's just a matter of putting them together (that's the easy part right?  Wink)

Wow, first tri today. I had to do a team, as I had a thing cut off my head, and couldn't swim. So my wife said she would run, and a friend swam, so we did a team.

Learned lots, rode super slow (did come last), but hey at least I was there. Needed new brake pads, bought them, tried to fit them last night, and realised I had bought the wrong ones, so rode my wife's bike, which was way too small. I also did crossfit yesterday, and it was a big legs day. So first mile, BIG hill and bam, massive quad cramp. Bummer.

Oh well I finished, showed up, and will do much better next time.

Ugh...super busy weekend and no time for any training. I got in a 24mi ride on Friday though, so I don't feel too bad. Back at it tomorrow with another ride in the morning and swim later in the day.

ALL RIGHT scott, way to go.

I have had enough of this "doctor's orders" crap.  I will meet him halfway and won't train until Thursday, but then I am starting again.  He'll get the benefit of a swim on Thursday and bike on Friday.  I won't start the run training until Saturday.  I actually miss this stuff.  Would never have believed that before this summer.  Besides, the foot doesn't feel any better not doing anything.  If anything, it hurts more being sedentary.

Oh i forgot the best part. My daughter (4 years old) got to do a race after us. They have a little kids race (maybe 20 m swim, 800 odd m run). She even got a number on her arm! She was so proud of herself.

And.....

One of her preschool friends mum ran the run with them. I said to my wife "that's Letitia", yes she said. Turns out her friends mum was a world champion kayak racer in her day, so my daughter ran a race with a world record holder! The things that amuse me are endless.

^^ I love these stories.  Our local race organizers have a "Tri for Kids" on all their race weekends, and my son is dying to do one next spring.  Putting him to bed last night, he asks "Daddy, can we go to the gym tomorrow so I can practice my swimming for the races?"  I love it...so we went and played at the gym pool for 15 minutes this morning (thank God for outdoor heated pools...), then he rode his bike alongside my 4 min run on the bike trail.  Can't wait for April...he's going to love it!  Congrats to your daughter.

She really wants to do their full tri, on her pink bmx with training wheels and a seat on the back for dolly. Who am I to argue, she will still probably beat me!

That's so awesome.  My son is only 15 months old and I can only hope he's into everything like your kids are when he's old enough.  Heck, I'm hope I'm still as into it as I am now in a few years when he's ready.

On a crappy note, I caught some kind of bug.  Not sure what but I had some awesome runs this weekend (6.3 and 4.5 miles) and yesterday I went to my nephews birthday party and just felt spent the whole day and now today I'm totally drained, sore throat, hot, just awesomeness really.  I get one cold per year and I just coffee/coughdrop/vitamin C is right out of me, so I'm on a healthy diet of those 3 things coupled with a splash of nyquil before bed.

Well my workouts have been all shorter, but pretty high intensity this week. Some swim sprints Monday (about 1 km worth), some 200 m repeats running Tuesday, and tabata sprints on the bike (on the wind trainer at home) yesterday (with a cf workout thrown in). I just really have not had time for long workouts this week, but wanted to do something. Hope to do a longer slow run sat, and a long slow ride Sunday.

Hope you are all well (of and am back on the weight loss, down 5 kg in the last month).Laughing

Forget the podiatrist!  I went back to working out and using the training log today.  But I sort of listened to him.  I didn't run.  Today was Wk1D1 of the "Zero to 1650" (hereafter referred to as "Z1650") swim program.  Then I hit the steam room briefly.  VERY briefly!  I could barely breathe in there.  Definitely prefer the dry heat of the sauna, so I spent 15 minutes in there instead.

Leather, glad to see your back on track. Hope your feet get better.

Training seems to solve allot of ailments. If it could just solve the girlfriend/wife having a headache thing us guys would be all set!!!   Sealed

Have a great day all and just keep moving!!!!!!!!!!

Gah, my odessy of only riding on the trainer continues. It bores me mindless, but at least I am moving. Some swimming and running continues, as well as crossfit. Starting to actually enjoy this! Happy weekend all.

Hope everyone had a good weekend and kept going.  I finally got back out yesterday after having to take an entire week off from being sick.  I was down and out, it was bad, just couldn't break it but now I'm back.  Did 5 mile trail run yesterday and felt pretty fresh, it just felt great to be moving again.  I also ordered my xmas present trainer yesterday so by the end of this week I should be kicking some butt on that.  I just need to get a cadence sensor, the ANT+ stick and a membership to trainerroad and I except to be a machine all winter in the basement.
