Yes I am! I talk about it a lot on here because most of my posting is usually done at work when its quiet

 

I wanted to be a vet...but am a doctor instead...vet school is soo tough to get into here in the US and I only wanted to do it if I could do large animal and work at a zoo/aquarium...since that seemed unlikely I decided to go with human medicine instead.

And then a weekend filled with recruiting new future surgeons to my residency program.

I had to opt for an eliptical workout yesterday instead of my planned run

my right knee was feeling a little tweaky........

LOL thats funny because a lot of vets get asked if they became vets because they couldn't get into people medicine!!! They have just changed the course here in Australia to make it more similar to the US, previously you could just get in straight out of high school, lucky me! Its a lot harder now.

One of my good friends who I met at vet school switched to human medicine after working as a vet for 2 years. She's just finished her medicine degree.

I wanted to work in a zoo when I was a student, I did a lot of prac at Perth and Melbourne zoos, but then when I graduated and started working with small animals (pets) I discovered I really enjoyed it. I worked with horses for a time as well, and whilst I enjoyed working with the horses, I did not enjoy working with the horse owners as much!!!

What kind of medicine do you do?

Hi team!  Really sorry to do this, but I have to pull out of the challenge.  I've worn myself out with everything going on - even stayed home from work yesterday because I couldn't get out of bed.  Such a wimp I am!  So I won't be training until I get the xmas stuff done and have some energy again, which may be next week,  may be later, but I don't want to pull the team down or feel pressure to get the workouts in.  Sorry guys -- it was fun!

So how do I go about officially retiring?

I am a general surgery resident.  I can imagine that horse owners might be a pain to work with...and I can see the allure of small animal too, but many people say I want to be a vet because in the end I want to be a pediatric surgeon
