Wet suits   I already have one but it's not a real Tri Suit.  Have been looking at several different type but most of them are on line and want to be sure of a perfect fit.  Where did most of you get your suits/type (sleeve less, long, farmer??)  way to many choices!

Xterra full body wetsuit.  I think it was like 150 or so.  They have specials all the time.  They actually just came out with a triathlon short distance wetsuit.  I use a full because I swim in 55 degree water around here.  I think it's just www.xtrerra.com or google xterra wetsuits.

I went to my local tri shop.  Being new to this sport I wanted to make sure it fit right.  And I am glad that I did coz I couldn't breath in the size I thought I was.  Of course this year I have lost 10 pounds so it may fit me much differently this year.

Don't have a local Tri shop--only wish we did--just sporting goods store, like Dick's Sporting and you have to order one.

Don't know how far you are from Lake Placid area but High Peaks Cyclery does sell a few wetsuits.  It would give you the right sizing.  But if you are 2 far......

Then there is the adirondack summer expo April 24 & 25 in Saratoga Springs.  Looks like there might be a few vendors for triathlon wetsuits   http://adksports.com/summerexpo

Hope these are helpful

I downloaded the Swim Smooth console.  I think I have a crush on Mr. Smooth (with a name like that who wouldn't?)

If watching him swim counts as mental training, I've been getting quite a workout!

Seriously though, it is THE best website.  Thanks Seren!

Boston Beginner - 2010-02-21 6:54 PM

Good evening.  I hope everyone had an eventful weekend.  I am back running, which I can't believe I am saying this, but I am happy to be running again.  I missed it, but don't tell anyone.  I have been swimming a lot this week and stumbled across this site, www.swimsmooth.com.  Actually it was suggested in another thread in tri talk by Kathy G.  Best swim website I have ever seen.  The site is full of videos and animation of how to swim correctly and what not to do.  I figured out what I was doing wrong in about 5 minutes.  I highly recommend it.

Was this the post you were referring to Alana?

I have been to Fast Splits before.  They are good.  They know their stuff.  You should also look into coming down for the Multi Sport Expo held at MIT on March 20th.  I will be in NY this year, but it's worth the trip.

not a particularly great week for training - just one run to be honest.  not sure how 4 days slips by without training, but i had a good short 2 mile run last night between twins basketball games.  both kids won their games - emma had 12 points and samuel had 2.  now we have a basketball tournament all weekend ... at least if we keep winning.

i must say doing that run, in between 2 winning basketball games, i was kind of proud of our active family.  about 10 years ago when i told my husband that i wanted our family to be active and healthy he said something like given our current lack of regular activity it was highly unlikely that we would ever be disciplined enough to be consistently active. three kids in 29 months had just put us into survival mode.  now, all 5 of us have some regular physical activity in which we keep improving.   i guess, we are an active family after all.  not starting the reproductive clock until 37 makes me an "older mum"  if i stop exercising i will be a very old mum chronologically and physiologically and therein is a big push to keep me motivated

off to a swim and weight class ... have a great training weekend!

Hi Josh,

My name is Dean-44 years of age w/3 children 11, 10 & 9 & would love to join your group, even though it is filled.  I have been researching and you and this group would be the best fit for myself--if you can add one more in.  I live in RI and decided to enter tris in August of last year.  I have not yet competed in one but look forward to very much.

I have been biking/running for over 20 years, started taking swim lessons since August.

I won't expand any more in case you decide not to expand your group.  But I am very fresh & need guidance, there are not many coaches in may area & I love this website.  What ever you can do I would greatly appreciate.

Hi Dean,

Thanks for the post.  We have lost a couple of folks, I think, so I see no issues with adding 1 more.    I think I can speak for the group when I say that we welcome anyone who would like to benefit from the group.  All I ask, is that you start logging your workouts and don't be shy asking questions.  If you could expand with some of the races you have coming up, some goals, and the training program you are following, that would be great.   Welcome aboard.

Hello Dean, welcome to our group!  Am sure you'll find this gang both very informative and entertaining.  Josh can be kind of a slave driver sometimes (log your training, list your goals, why aren't you posting??)  but for the most part he isen't that bad just don't challenge him as I hear he plays to win  Haha---really welcome, have fun, enjoy and stay on your course to Tri--can't beat the excitment both while training and racing.  Some say I am the resident mouth piece--don't believe it.  I just have to much free time on my hands both at work and home.

Josh, greatly appreciated and thanks to Dragonflyer for your well wishes.  I just posted my races and will throw in a 5k, 10k & half marathon run.  I am looking to fit in my schedule a Olympic--does anyone have any recommendations-I live in Southern RI but will travel to Ma or Ct.  My training is to peak for my HIM in Sept.

This is my 1st year & am very excited.  I have run a few running races and love the competion & comradery.  And I here Triathletes are the best.  I have been doing swimming drills/endurance/lessons since Sept (3 or 4 days/week) and can swim 1.5 miles at a average pace of 57 sec/lap with very little fatigue when finished.  I have been riding for over 20 years & have done 3 centuries.  Been on my fluid trainer w/Spinervals 3 days per week.  Love to run but need to build (and watch for injuries)--I got up to 12 miles before winter came at a sub 9min/mile pace.

I think I have a decent base but need to improve (definatly running)--I think I'm going to follow the 20 week plan offered here--any recommendations?

I will be appreciative for all your future critics/feedback and fell lucky to be part of this group.

I need to get up to speed on the site to finish completing my bio/info.

Thanks again

ps-I need speel ck

Hello and welcome Dean!

Im new to it all, but your numbers sound great!  I think you'll do just fine this year!

I just started swimming a couple weeks ago and would be so proud if in 5 months I could do sub-2 minute/100s and swim 1.5 miles strong.  Must be great seeing that kind of improvement.   I'm a floundering mess atm and have a long road ahead of me...  =]

Welcome Dean.
I think that you will do great this season if you can maintain or improve the numbers you posted already.  Last season was my first and I had  the same ambitions you have.  I completed my first HIM in September.  The biggest piece of advice I can give you is get on your bike.  Alot.  You can not over prepare for the bike leg.  Good luck and happy trainingLaughing
