Thanks - good work.
Can we see by race age groups? 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, etc.

Also...someone good at Excel (not me!) - can you do a possible breakdown of Kona slots per age group? Thanks!

Because you asked... The M70+ will be quite a race!  I did notice my age listed was my age this year not next year's age; therefore I aged everyone up an additional year, so if a participant was listed at 39 they fell into the 40-44 age group.

My listed age is correct. I think some people put their age at the end of this year instead of at the end of 2011. Could you put up the table without the adjusted ages? I doubt it will make much of a difference, but still interesting to see.

Didn't they ask us what our age would be race day (year)? I remember listing 30 as that is my age for next season. However, it lists me as 29 on the participant list. I'm assuming they'll get that right by registration.

That's odd, makes me wonder how many are incorrect. I guess this is why they post the list this far in advance.

Am I remembering correctly? I could swear I remember putting 30. It also has you give your regular birthday so Active could have calculated it automatically.

I'm not too worried about it. That can be changed at registration if they don't fix it by then.

Jeez...my hopes for a stealth Kona qualification by racing the first year of this race just took a huge hit.  M40-44 is the largest age group?!?!

Sure, there are 9 slots, but that's a lot of people to beat!

The only changes when you go straight by the age listed in the participant list are:

M 0-24 goes from 1 to 2,
M 24-29 goes from 3 to 4,
M 45-49 goes from 7 to 6, and
M 55-59 goes from 3 to 2.

So not any big changes - on a side note, I am in the M 40-44 with a whooping 9 available spots, but I am much better with pivot tables than the Ironman, so my odds of getting a slot are statistically and much more significantly better in the lottery than on the course on May 21st....  Good luck to all you fast people, say hi when you pass on the 3 loop run....

Don't expect a break when you get to 44-49. In the last Sprint I did, 7 of the top 25 were from the 44-49 age group.

I talked to Keith after the Longhorn athletes' meeting on Saturday.  The hold up is TxDOT and WTC.

All three courses are laid out, traffic studies done, all the separate approvals granted, etc.  There's one last person at TxDOT who has to take all those other approvals and say, "Okay, it's officially blessed."  WTC won't let Keith spill the beans without that.  That person retired and because Keith is working through several layers of bureaucracy with The Woodlands, regional TxDOT, etc, they're having trouble figuring out who her replacement is.

My brother-in-law is the CFO of TxDOT and I asked him if he could find out who the new contact is.  Hopefully, I'll be able to pass that on to Keith in the next day or so.

40-44 is the most competitive AG by far. I had my intern cross reference the IMTX participant list with previous IM results. There are already 10 guys in there that have qualified for Kona in the last two years. The slowest time of that group was 10:11.

My own story with this age group...I was top 10 at Tri Andy's last weekend but 3rd in the age group. Lots of competitive guys in this age group and it won't get better.

What's worse is that those larger and older age groups actually have a smaller percentage of the Kona spots relative to their size.

M25-29  5% of field and 4.6% of Kona slots
M30-34  9.4% of field and 7.7% of Kona slots
M35-39  14.8% of field and 12.3% of Kona slots
M40-44  18% of field and 13.8% of Kona slots
M45-49  12.3% of field and 10.8% of Kona slots

This is my last year in the 25-29AG, so if I end up racing, I'd better get it right because my chances drop sharply from here.

The only scenario I've heard on the run is 3 loops. I've heard 1 and 2 loops for the swim, and 1 loop and a lollipop multi loop for the bike, but the run has never changed. market street/waterway, around the lake, through east shore and repeat (not necessarily in that direction)

I am pretty sure the run course would be 3 loops.
