obvious first timer questions...

1. real time athlete tracking?  Is the go-to gps rental from My Athlete?

2. From reading some race reports it sounded like there was a "board" where spectators could put up inspirational notes to athletes.  Is this true?  If so, would it be something friends/family could do from home or just on location?

3. Yay or Nay on the Athlete dinner on Friday night for a first time IMer?  Anyone else planning on going?

1.  I've used them once, worked pretty good. And only $30 for the weekend.

2.  On Saturday, there will be computers set up on the west side of the terrace where you can type in an athlete's number and write a very short message.  They'll also have a tent over there where you can make posters.  Somewhere on the run (I forget exactly but around mile 10 and 23 maybe?) is "inspiration mile".  They take all the posters people make and line them up one after the other, and you'll run across a timing mat that triggers the message board to display messages entered for you.  By the way, they are very serious about censorship on that board.  Last time my wife wrote "suck it up buttercup" and it displayed "it up ercup".

3.  If they ever decide to start selling tickets for the family members, I'll be going.  Otherwise, I'd rather go out to eat with the wife and kids.  They'll tell you some inspirational stories, introduce the oldest and youngest competitors, find out who's doing their first and who in the room has done the most.  Stuff like that, which can be pretty motivational.  In 2010 they introduced a guy with one leg doing his 5th Ironman in 5 months.

do we want to have a BT group swim and breakfast on Friday morning?  I'd be up for it, I would like to do a short swim and orient myself around the swim exit and running up the helix.

I'm in.  Has anyone organized anything yet?  ie: meeting place, time etc.

Nothing organized.  I'm a Wisconsin Virgin so don't know anything about the logistics of the swim or breakfast.

I wanted to let you know that my OWS coach has offered to let anyone swim with her group on Friday.  There are 1-2 kayaks and she knows the course if there are questions.  I won't be there, but they meet by the metered parking in the main lot and will start swimming promptly at 6am.

Nope. As you know if you wait a couple of hours you will have plenty of company.  Lots of IM'ers, boaters and ski practice!

PS. Lake Monona was 69F this morning.

Anyone know if the half marathon Sunday will be taking place on the bike course? Going to head up in the AM and start the ride mid morning I think.

Name: HUSKRFJ/ Matt

What is your Ironman resume? N/A

Why did you choose Ironman Wisconsin? It is with in driving distance and worked out to be a good time of year to train for me. Plus, I've heard its a great race and a coworker fellow training partner of mine did it last year and highly recommended the race

What are you goals for IMWI 2012? To put as solid of a race as I can, leave it all out there and make this last year of training worthwhile. Show my kids that you can do anythinng you put your mind to.

What are you most looking forward to? Looking forward to the whole experience of race day. And of course heaing my name called out on the loud speaker at the finish line!

Veterans any advice you can give early on? First IM so no advice here.

Thanks a lot!  I figured it didn't and was too lazy to compare courses since I am not familiar with the area.  Will be driving out from Chicago in the AM for my first experience with the course.

7:30 works but for those who know the area is that to late not to worry about boat traffic? I don't want to get run over by a boat two days before the race

We did the BT group swim at ~7 last year and things still looked good well past 7:30.  I'm guessing 7:30 will be fine.

Had a big confidence booster today.  I did a 103 mile bike to a 3.5 Mile run brick.  On the bike I took all my nutrition and only stopped for water.  Kept my water stops to 3 and less than 3 minutes for each one.

I wanted to take it really easy on the bike to simulate my race pace and also test my nutrition plan.  Everything worked out great and I felt very fresh when I started the run.  I could have kept going but I was getting pretty thirsty and didn't want to push into a long run without any support/water.

Also, I'm good with 7:00 or 7:30 for the Friday swim.  Looks like the water has cooled down nice so I'm guessing it's a safe bet that the race will be wetsuit legal.

How did everyone do while peaking this weekend? I am just amazed that I did everything and minus the swimming ALL BY MYSELF (I got my boyfriend up at 6 am to come and kayak next to me)! 2 mile OWS on Saturday morning, jumped right on to the bike and did 94 miles, followed by a 3 mile run. 8 hours of training!

The thought of running 18 miles today was really not appealing. I kept putting it off, and I finally went out around 11 this morning. I felt SO STRONG! I completely amazed myself! I even ran through a thunderstorm, and ran in squishy shoes for 12 miles. DIDN'T LET IT BOTHER ME! I don't even have blisters....

This weekend has finally given me the confidence that I can freaking do this!

3 weeks!

Walinda

My weekend went okay.  180 km (112 miles) ride on Saturday (got a bad sting on the Ride).  Today was a 1 hour ride and a 25 km run (15.6 miles).  A little tired now.  Looks like my coach has me still doing a pretty high mileage week.  Should be around 15 hours.  Looks like Taper isn't really going to start until the weekend.

This week was 18:42 - biggest week ever for me (by 12 minutes over last weekend).
